  1. Was that the high school or the penitentiary?
  2. Keeps mileage expenses down.
  3. There is no reason to believe that Polanco playing once-or-twice--a-week will hit as well as Nunez will hit playing once-or-twice--a-week. There is a reason bench players don't hit as well as everday players, and many players cannot perform without regular playing time. For all we know, Polanco may be one of that majority.
  4. Please direct me to a quote which says "ZERO RANGE" or "NEGATIVE RANGE".
  5. What "advanced stat backs up" ZERO range? How about ZERO truth?

  7. GREAT! Now he will be able to fan in an effort to hit 600-ft-HR's; rather than the 500-ft-HR's he tried to hit last season. Also if YOUR barber is Arcia's barber, all three of you should be arrested on charges of Felony Coiffure Mutilation.
  8. They NEED Barry Bonds. They GOT Arcia.
  9. It is seldom (never?) the batting coach who wants the batter to hit 600-ft homers. It is often (always?) the batter himself who wants to get the attention. After all, when "chicks dig the long ball", it's not batting coach who gets that love.
  10. Or the Attica Astros; the Rikers Islanders or the Sing-Sing Wild Wings.
  11. If he actually wanted to kill her, he would have thrown a baseball at her. He is no threat with a gun.
  12. Positioning The Twins Lineup For Success.... My mistake! I thought this was a Self-Help Seminar.
  13. Like his aim improving?
  14. I hope the "New York Yankees = Dallas Cowboys" W-L %!
  15. John Ryan Murphy escaped New York just in time! Can you imagine catching foul tips in the face-mask when Chapman, Miller and Betances are pitching? The Yankee catchers will all be talking like Rocky Balboa by Labor Day.
  16. That is equivalent to squat. Tonkin has had a difficult time so far in MLB. Aaron Slegers, DJ Hicks and Ryan Walker are a very good bet to NEVER reach the Big Leagues. If the Yankees players are worse, then the Reds just held a salary-dump garage sale.
  17. Aroldis Chapman, Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller? Holy O'Bleep!
  18. In that framework of positivity, allow me to say that I am 100% POSITIVE that any thread on this site that is limited to 100% POSITIVE thought has no chance to succeed. I am 100% POSITIVE that most TD posters are 100% POSITIVE that they can't be 100% POSITIVE on command. So, good luck wit dat!
  19. Assuming that the increase, followed by the decrease in average age were caused by the same reason (but opposite directions) is an incorrect assumption. IMO the increasing age starting in the 70's was due to the huge growth of college baseball. IMO the recent declining age is due to the huge salaries for veteran players compared to younger players, making younger players more valuable for the dollar. In other words, different causes driving the ages in different directions; rather than the same cause trending in opposite directions in different eras.
  20. "One could assume this was due largely to players’ careers being extended artificially by PEDs. Or one could also possibly assume teams were selecting older players in the amateur draft or perhaps being more deliberate with their prospects" Or MUCH more likely, many more players were playing COLLEGE BASEBALL, because of its increasing popularity, instead of signing out of HS.
  21. Yes, but does it ever increase? Or fluctuate up and down rapidly? Talent evaluation performance does those things because it is not a science; it is not an art; and is probably more like a crap-shoot.
  22. As someone who must select baseball players from tryouts every year, let me say that there is a tremendous amount of luck involved. I have picked super teams and I have picked stinkers, sometimes one year apart. Psychiatrists tell me that my IQ can't possibly change that much, that quickly. Having good or bad drafts doesn't make a GM good or bad. Players' abilities change with time, age and maturity, and nobody in baseball that I know is a licensed Psychic. And I don't believe in Psychics.
  23. Is it more "aggressive" to sign Zach Greinke, a proven ace? Or Is it more "aggressive" to sign a less "proven" SP and gamble that he will become the next Liriano, Johan, Radke, or Pavano. I think TR is TOO aggressive for a GM, by gambling that chicken-bleep can be made into chicken salad. If you sign Zach Greinke, that is conservative for a GM, because his future performance is as sure a sure thing as there is out there. Now, the owners, who are putting out the $$$, are just the opposite, ie. less money=less aggressive.
  24. Rumor has it that Pinto answered the phone when he was in the Padres GM's office, but it wasn't ringing. I know concussions are no joke, and I seriously wish Pinto the best, but I needed to lighten the mood.
