Not confused at all about Emma not being called up. They aren't going to call him up and put him on the bench like they did with Gabby. And they aren't ready to sit Larnach or Bell enough to give Jenkins and Emma all the ABs. Even if that should be the move at this point.

As for his time in MN being done, I don't think so. His trade value is not likely to be very high. I'm positive the Twins would get numerous buy low offers from rebuilding teams looking to grab a top 100 prospect for almost nothing. The Twins aren't DFAing him as those same teams would be ecstatic to grab him for actually nothing, and give him a season to see if he looks like an MLBer.

Their only play with him is to put him on the opening day roster and give him a month of everyday ABs and see how he looks.

Not benching Larnach at this point is idiotic. I cannot wait for this leadership to be gone.

I share the bewilderment about Erod not being called up yet, however, I don't really think they have written him off.  My guess is that based on his style of hitting, he has a little bit of Jose Miranda freezer burn on him.  Similar style, uber-patient, may be scaring them off -- even though he's a much better athlete and much better defender.  I'm not sure we won't see him yet for a cameo, but there is fear (everywhere -- even here on TD) that it won't work in MLB.

It's also possible that they want him to remain a mystery because they think that they can sell "what might be" to a trade partner.

OR it could just be that they want him to have as many at bats as possible because of the time missed and they don't think they can get him as many in MLB.

I personally think he can and will be successful.  His chance will come next spring.  I'm not willing to wager on it, but it wouldn't surprise me if he had a better season than Jenkins next summer.

when I've seen him running the bases sliding in the second for example, the man looks like a superstar. maybe he'll flounder around just like Walker Jenkins house so far, but maybe not. it makes no sense to not have him up seeing what he can do when next season he has to make the roster. it doesn't sound like they intend to keep him unless they bring him up in the next few days.

He was outplaying Outman in spring training and they sent him down early so he couldn't win the job from Outman.  He should have been on the opening day roster.  For anyone who thinks the Twins are operating differently under Zoll, this was the first example that they don't.  Outman should never have come north with the team but because he was traded for, they tried to force it to work and it didn't.

Emma must have rubbed someone in mgmnt the wrong way. They are always looking in a different direction when it comes to bringing up young guys. He has been on the 40 man and been ignored for 2 seasons. Injuries are only part of the story. There has to be more.

Injuries ARE the story though. He has been back now at AAA after his latest injury and rehab stint for 23 games. That's probably enough, right? Since August 11, he has hit .264/402/494. 23 games is PROBABLY enough, right?

You forgot to mention Rondon. Twins gathering & hoarding LH hitting OFers haven't given a fair shake to all of them. I have no idea what the Twins' plans are but IMO, Buxton, Jenkins & Emma are potentially our best OF. For years, we have needed to trade off some of that glut, if you have to trade Emma, you better get someone who's special & fit a real need. There are some on your list that should be traded, Emma isn't one of them.

I don’t understand what the organization is trying to do.

They aren’t a contender now (in hindsight, they never were contenders with the holes in the roster, disregard for defense, and injuries.)

So play for the future,  play your prospects and stop wasting MLB time on marginal players that will not be the future.

It goes right along with that definition of sanity. Maybe (certainly) it's time to try something different. And I don't mean hoping there will be no injuries next season.

Only a team as inept as the Twins would think Buxton has more value than ERod.

No team in their right mind would trade the upside of ERod for 1.5 years of an aging, surgery required 33 year old Buxton.  It’s not even close.

The only team dumb enough to give up on ERod so Buxton can play another hundred or so games in his age 34 and 35 seasons before retiring would be the Twins.  Talk about asinine….

If there is any truth in this article, God help us Twins fans.

I am exhausted with some people thinking that Buxton will be hit with a magic wand and suddenly complete a healthy season and actually be productive for the team. This hip surgery issue alone could sideline him for six months or more.

ERod is getting everyday AB in AAA right now after a long layoff from injury.  I think he will get.called.up after the AAA season ends or after the Twins are eliminated from post season contention. He won't get too many opportunities but some and next season he will start in the OF as well.  He will get his chance.  How could the Twins not want to give a guy with a .400 OBP a chance.

Uhhhh...the Twins were eliminated from the postseason in August!

As far as Erod....I only have two words to say:  BIG PAPI

Dumping Erod before he ever sets foot on Target Field would be as embarrassing as dumping Big Papi at in 2002, just in time for him to hit and average of over 35 HRs/year and drive in an average of 108 RBI over the next 13 years...of a first ballot HOF career.  Now, will Erod match this extremely high level of performance?  Well...their AAA stats are roughly similar....Erod 256/423/912 and Ortiz 309/381/913.  And, yes, Ortiz had his share of injuries throughout his career too.

So, why would you give up at Erod at this point?  So you can play Roden?  Larnach?  Clemmons?  Martin?  Wallner (choke!).?  Gimme a break!  Roden, Larnach and Wallner don't hold a candle to Erod--not even in the same league.  Clemmons is one of the best utility players we have had for a while...keep him there. Martin is OK, but powerless.

This roster is totally F'ed up!  There IS an easy fix here...maybe  Erod plays in the AFL then Start him out in AAA,, but when you bring him up....sign Erod to a 2 year contract.  That bumps him up to MLB minimum wage, but it also protects him in case we want/need to send him down to AAA for some more at bats--he'd just be under MLB contract  But, just abandoning him with a trade this off-season would be as lunatic as trading Louie Varland.

Sooner or later, we have to get adult brain cells in the GM chair.  I just hope that happens before we destroy this team any further!

I don't think you can send him to AAA just because he has a contract, or every big market team would do that...

Here's an out of the box thought.

He's the new first baseman.  He's plenty athletic to learn a position -- arguably a plus outfielder.  If his hitting profile plays, he has a lot of pop and could be the slugging first baseman we haven't had since Morneau.  Personally, I would rather squeeze out one of the other outfielders, but Erod is the guy who could probably pull it off -- and fix first base for five years.  YMMV.  Or maybe I've been drinking, but I like this idea more and more the more I think about it.

Interesting thought. I just feel like his athleticism would be so much better in the outfield, but first would also probably keep him healthier. And agreed on the hitting aspect as well

Why on earth would a team as needy as the Twins part ways with a young player who has never had an AB in the majors?  The premise of this article is absurd, IMO.

I get where you're coming from, and I share that sentiment. But I don't know why he's still in the minors if the Twins plan on keeping him around.  Doesn't make sense

That's makes a lot of sense to me. Let's hope that it happens this way.

Who are: Clemmons & Rondon  and where did we get them from?  Difficult to take serious comments from individuals who cannot even correctly spell the names of the players for whom they are making comments.

You know exactly who they were referring to.

He should be in MLB. Its not like his lack of hitting would have cost the Twins a playoff spot.

Everybody knows the problem. The same problem they had bringing up Jenkins only on another level. They still believe they’re in it and don’t have room on the roster.
A. They have a full roster with Martin waiting to return.

B. He’s a LHH with a million LHH already on the roster.

Until they’re officially out of it he’s not seeing a major league call up. Very simple actually. Yes, it’s dumb and shortsighted but judging from history it’s not his production or his status. It’s everyone else.

If the Twins signed Erod to an MLB contract, they will not be able to stash him in AAA even for a day. ….and they should sign him to an extension and play him in MLB. He has a huge upside allstar ceiling.

Twins are once again dropping the ball . Put Larnach on DL for any injury you can think of or release him. E-Rod needs to get some at bats so prepare for next year . Playoff push is over . Stop with this nonsense, bring the guy up and any other pitching prospect like Mr Quick and get them the experience they need .

You can't just put a player on the IL because you don't want to play him.  The union would scream about something about like this.  Larnach could rotate at DH with Bell and ERod plays in LF, simple solution.

The Twins have done everything they possibly could to mismanage Rodriguez. Falvinzoll's failure has been maximized.

Rodriguez's trade value is utterly tanked. He's never had a single PA at the MLB option, but he won't pass through waivers, either. The Twins elected to bring back a player they shouldn't have (Larnach) sign a player they shouldn't have (Bell) and refused to move on from either when it was obvious the season was basically over.

We're left with a player who cannot be DFA'd because of the sheer stupidity of doing so, cannot be traded for anything of value and cannot be relied upon as a 26 man contributor.

Sure.  I get that, but it’s not like Justin Morneau wasn’t athletic.  Imagine having an actual slugger who could move at first base for a few years rather than searching for a bargain free agent semi-bopper each year in free agency.  Sometimes it works out well, but often, not so much.

Outman received 70 plate appearances over the course of 64 games. Due to the relative health of the Twins OF, and Austin Martin going on a bit of a heater to start the season, there just wasn't a role for someone like Rodriguez. And if I'm not mistaken, by the time they cut bait on Outman, Rodriguez was once again injured.

People here love to complain about Outman, but he was such a small part of the team that no one should want to see a prospect step into.

Aside from potentially adding him to the 40 man roster too early, I can't even begin to imagine how the Twins have mismanaged him. Is it their fault he's gotten hurt every other week?

He had major plate approach concerns coming into the season, and because of his constant stream of injuries, hasn't really had the time necessary to work on them and prove his development.

It's obviously disappointing that his relentless injury history has eaten away his options, but oh well? That just means next year is sink or swim. He'll be given just as much rope as people here complain about veterans getting. He'll be given plenty of time to show his value for a team in an incredibly weak division, or traded to a team that wants that experiment.

I just shake my head at all this hand wringing over a middling prospect who looks to be nothing more than a 4th OF to me anyways.
