  1. Very good article. I especially liked Taj Bradley's quote about the value of Caratini. Having a catcher that the pitching staff is comfortable with, and has confidence in, is a huge plus.
  2. Simmons got a lot of flack from many Twins fans on this board that season, but overall he did a pretty good job on the field.
  3. It may take more than one reliable relief pitcher, but I appreciate you optimism!
  4. Like Tampa Bay, the Twins are built around run prevention ... Not sure about that. That statement would imply that the Twins either have a lights-out group of pitchers and/or we have a bunch of gold-glove candidates. We are a long way from Tampa Bay in that respect. But apologies if I'm reading something into that statement that you didn't mean. The Twins obviously SHOULD be aiming for more run prevention, but I don't see that happening.
  5. I understood the reasoning for trading Duran, as great as he was, but the Varland trade was perplexing at the time and totally maddening now, especially considering the fantastic season that he's having. But hey, what's done it done, and we still need some more arms in the bullpen. Trades MIGHT bring back a useful arm or too, but I think the asking price for quality relief pitchers may be too high prior to the trade deadline, so I'm content and wait to see if we can find another useful waiver pickup or actually sign someone decent during the off-season. At this point, I don't have much hope we can contend this season, so I'll try and be entertained by the current bullpen rollercoaster.
  6. I liked that trade at the time and still like it. Taj Bradley has some stuff! But in fairness to Tampa Bay and Griffin Jax, he has looked pretty good in their starting rotation this season. Hopefully, this will end up being one of the win-win trades for both teams.
  7. What a fall for Woods-Richardson. I still think he could turn into a decent MLB pitcher. What went wrong?
  8. Jake Cave making a comeback?! That's a puzzler, but good for him. Meanwhile, where is our old buddy Astudillo these days?
  9. Yep, Caratini has been hitting much better lately. Bell is still up and down, but he seems to get the hits and RBI when we need them.
  10. I can't imagine that the Twins will be buyers this season. I'm usually an optimist, but I think we'll be in a big selling mode next month.
  11. There have been plenty of older players who put up gaudy numbers at that level. But most 22-year-olds aren't even in Triple-A yet, let alone hitting .330. Is that really accurate about players his age in AAA? I honestly don't know for sure, but that seems about the right age for a prospect coming up through the system. But please correct me if I'm mistaken. It seems to me like a 22-year-old should be knocking at the doors of the major leagues.
  12. Welcome back Chris Vallimont! The former Twins farmhand re-started for the Wind Surge on the 19th, but this author didn’t cover that day, and he does for this one. The righty found a groove, hurling three innings with one earned run, striking out four in the process. I thought that name looked familiar! Was he with another organization between Twins stints?
  13. Do we have any idea how long it will take him to recover from this surgery and be able to pitch again?
  14. Yep, you can't underestimate the Rockies, even with their poor record. I'm sure Castro and Julian especially are going to be trying very hard to get some hits when they are in town.
  15. Very excited that Raya is finally getting the chance to pitch for the Twins in the majors. He has the potential to be a stellar arm in the pen. It will be interesting to say how the Twins use him and if he will be on any type of pitch/innings limit.
  16. I'd love to have Wash on our team as a coach. Great baseball experience, I recall MANY years ago before a spring training game in Florida when Ron was with the Astros, and he was giving fielding tips to a young player who had been a catcher but was now trying his luck in the infield: a kid by the name of Craig Biggio.
  17. Lefty Dasan Hill got the start and was looking to correct some of the issues he’s been experiencing so far this season. If you call two innings of scoreless baseball a step in the right direction, he did so. Of his 32 pitches, 18 went for strikes (56%), allowing just one hit and one walk, while striking out three. Yep, I WILL call that a step in the right direction. Only two innings but quite encouraging.
  18. Keaschall is unlikely to replicate Arraez's batting titles. Arraez routinely posted strikeout rates below 10% and possessed perhaps the most advanced contact skills in baseball. Keaschall's game includes more walks, more athleticism, and more speed on the bases. The comparison is less about identical production and more about the path to offensive value. Okay, I can accept that as a better measurement, but as William posted, I don't think Luke is going to be a contender for any batting titles.
