  1. I like Shelton's approach so far too. Maybe some of the changes are subtle, but just the fact that he is giving the starters a longer leash (okay, the bullpen may not inspire much confidence yet) is nice to see. It's only mid-April, but I can't complain about much of anything that he's done, or not done.
  2. Well said. I also have high hopes for Abel. A very encouraging start this week, more than hoped for, but let's check back in June and see how he is doing. But still, I think he may be a keeper.
  3. I'll take any and all promising or under the radar arms that the Twins manage to pick up or hold onto this season. Hopefully, guys like Acton will still and produce results, but until we find some more established arms, we will need to continue trying our waiver claims and other means.
  4. Yeah, the Varland trade was the most troubling of the bunch, but I think that Roden COULD end up being a good MLB player. It may take another year or longer before the jury comes to a decision.
  5. Very very true, Yes, we decimated the bullpen, but getting arms like Bradley and Abel was HUGE. I think history will show that this so-called sell-off was actually a prudent move.
  6. Yes, it was courageous of him to speak out. I honestly had not read anything about Duran's issues (sorry, not a Red Sox fan!), nor have I seen the documentary, but I applaud him for making his problem public, And obviously I deplore anyone that tries to heckle or ridicule a player that is dealing with this stuff. Let's all try and be more compassionate.
  7. I remember that too. I realize that cruel and sometimes nasty fans are part of the game, but it still makes me sad, if not angry, when these things happen. Play the game and be competitive, but be respectful.
  8. Agreed, Guys like Larnach seem to have at least salvaged their value so far this season, so why not try and swing a trade for a reliable relief pitcher? We definitely have too many surplus outfielders, plus several worthy candidates waiting in AAA.
  9. I don't want to proclaim him a "better" manager at this point, but I really like what Shelton is doing so far. I like his management style, at least as far as I can tell from a fan's point of view.
  10. For sure, plus the bullpen has been better than expected ... so far.
  11. Another good, detailed report, Seth, Many thanks for the work you put into these recaps. Very encouraging to see Prielipp going deeper into games this season. And the fact that only walked one batter and struck out eight is even more encouraging. I don't expect any complete games this season, nor would it be advisable, but I love seeing him on the mound for longer stretches. With all the pre-season talk about putting him in the bullpen, I still think it's make more sense to keep him as a starter.
  12. I'm optimistic about Morris too. I still think he could be a viable starter, but having him in the bullpen (if they don't send him down again next week) should be good experience for him.
  13. I love my Minnesota teams, but Canadians are pretty nice folks too!
  14. I'm happy to see Martin performing well so far this season. Keep him in the outfield for sure. I'd still love to see him as a regular starter, but with this logjam in the outfield I guess he will have to take what playing time he can,
  15. This bullpen will be in a state of flux for a few more months. I have no idea who the "closer" will be come August, and I'm not sure that it matters at this point. Sure, a guy like Duran would be great to close out games, but until we find that magical arm it will be a game of trial and errors.
  16. Good point. A few months after that trade most of us were crying the blues. Mahle was injured and then Steer and CES were looking impressive in Cincy. Things change quickly. In retrospect, that was a trade that looked good for the Twins, at least in the hope that Mahle would solidify the rotation.. But hey, that is the quirky game of baseball. You take your chances and hope for the best.
  17. Congratulations to Mr. Shelton! So far, I have been impressed with his job as the new Twins manager. Winning games counts for a lot!
  18. Thanks for these minor league reports. Love reading these updates. Culpepper (the pitcher) is indeed looking good thus far.
  19. I sincerely thought the Twins would be competitive this season, but this early season performance has been a pleasant surprise. I hope this stuff is sustainable, at least from the starting pitchers. Keep it coming!
  20. For now, not at all. Ask us again a month from now.
