  1. Lee's development as a hitter has certainly been one of the brighter aspects of this season so far for the Twins.
  2. That seems like a crazy, almost unbelievable stat ... but I'll take it!
  3. I agree. I think I enjoyed Steven's summary even more than the game!
  4. Very interesting list of ex-Twins pitchers, some of whom I had forgotten about. Okert was part of that no-hitter by Houston this week.
  5. I think so too. If nothing else, he seems more willing to try different things with different players and is not so predictable as Rocco was. But as Nick and others said, it's still very early in the season, but despite the various injuries and performance issues (Lewis, Wallner, Topa, and even Bell and Cartatini) we are somehow close to playing .500 ball. And the biggest thing is that it feels a lot more fun this season.
  6. Good article. I was well aware of his ghastly ERA, but didn't realize how wild Banda had been, chalking up multiple wild pitches and plunking a bunch of batters. Let's hope he has settled down and can be a positive contributor to our bullpen.
  7. Yes, he appears to have settled down and is pitching better in recent outings. Certainly no need to dump him just yet like we did with Topa. Hopefully, patience and maybe a few tweaks or encouragement from Hawkins might help to make him a useful bullpen piece.
  8. Another good, detailed report. Thanks, Seth! Too bad about Alvavilla getting released, but he had his chance. After his performance in the WBC I thought we might have found a diamond in the rough, but alas, it wasn't meant to be.
  9. Ah, memories of Gary Templeton. Not to mention, all those other great shortstops. Thanks for that! But yeah, if Young ends up emulating his relatives in regards to body size, shortstop will not be his position.
  10. Good point. Most of us were eager to trade him for a sack of balls during the off-season. Now that he is actually producing and has value, why not see what we can get?
  11. And Polanco is now with the Mets ... and injured again. At this point (how many years later?), I don't care to debate whether the Twins won or lost that trade, but at least we still have one asset left in Gonzalez who MAY end up being a valuable player on the Twins. Here's hoping he can shake some action.
  12. How long do you think they will keep Royce in AAA? A handful games is too early for any verdict, but are we talking about a couple of weeks, or maybe longer?
  13. Caratini took exception to Contreras' bump at the plate, and Contreras took exception to any human interaction that ensued. And then of course the rest of the players rushed off the bench and the bullpen dudes jogged over and nothing else happened ... but another embarrassingly juvenile tradition continues.
  14. Agreed, Not sure what the Twins are planning at this point, but Rojas has looked pretty poised and impressive thus far.
  15. Yes, the strikeouts remain somewhat concerning. Clemens is punching out at roughly a 26% clip, which is certainly higher than you’d like from an everyday player. That stat caught my eye, and I am wondering: what is that average strikeout rate for starting positional players this season?
  16. Absolutely. Those two players combined to put a serious black hole in the lineup. If they had both performed to expectations, we might at least have a few more wins this season. At this point, I'm content to watch and see how some of the prospects and waiver claims perform, I don't expect any post-season play at this point, but following the team is still enjoyable.
  17. Not to mention obscure body parts and other medical jargon. Sadly, we are learning a lot of new terms this season.
  18. Yep, Jeffers was having a great season. Another very unfortunate injury.
  19. I agree. As rocky as things have been so far this season, all we can do is try to be patient. Amidst all these waiver claims, maybe we find a keeper or two, plus we have some prospects in the minors. As you noted, better results may take longer than we'd like, but it will happen.
  20. Arcia now leading the team in batting average! Okay, only one game, but a nice return for the vet!
  21. I also thought of Hamilton as a comparison, but yeah, without the addiction issues. With Royce, the sudden decline is more of a mystery.
