  1. True, true, and true! This aspect of baseball needs to be fixed before it's too late.
  2. Gotta agree with that take. Citing the age factor has always baffled me.
  3. His playing days are long over, and even though he is now coaching for the Giants, I'll always be a Ron Washington fan. For that current group you posted, I'm still rooting for Varland. Happy to see that he has settled into the closer's role in Toronto, but man, I still wish we had kept him. Might have meant a few more wins already this season for the Twins.
  4. Still waiting for Lewis to rediscover his mojo. But I'm getting very impatient at this point.
  5. Very impressive outing for Riley Quick, indeed! And how about Diaw going 4-for-4?! But which position will Diaw eventually end up playing? Looking at this year's stats, I see that he has been a catcher 9 times, in the outfield 10 times, and 4 times serving as DH. We need more catchers, sure, but seems like Tait might have the inside track by 2028. What about Diaw?
  6. Yeah, Varland is looking lights out in Toronto thus far this season. Sigh. I didn't like that trade at that time (most of those trades the Twins made last year I was fine with, but I hated the Varland trade) and now I like it less, obviously. Sure, Rojas may turn into a very good MLB pitcher, and perhaps Roden can stay healthy and become productive too, but man, I sure wish we had held onto Varland.
  7. Bradley had control, and marched through seven innings in which he allowed two runs on just four hits and two walks, while striking out seven. Derek Shelton trusted his newfound workhorse, letting him throw more pitches than any Twins pitcher had since Kenta Maeda was chasing a no-hitter during the 2020 pandemic season. I thought that Bradley's pitch count was quite high, but wow, that comparison truly puts it in perspective. Thanks for doing the research!
  8. Speaking of that bullpen, or what could have been our bullpen ... Varland is pitching like an All-Star in Toronto.
  9. What's left is to understand what makes Buxton good, in some ways, even at this relatively late stage of his career—and, in the same moment, to grapple with the real ways in which he's now much less than an elite defender. Relatively late stage of his career ...?! Yikes, I guess that's about right, but it's still a shock to think about Buxton entering the twilight of his playing days. Sure, Buxton ain't a promising young player any longer, but I don't think that means that it's time to contemplate a move to right field or full-time DH. Sure, he's older and has lost a step or two, but I still think he has real value in center field. As Matthew said in the article, Buxton may now be "less reckless" and I can live with that.
  10. On a (somewhat) serious note: what is Swarzak doing now? We may need him for this year's bullpen.
  11. I was asking the same question in another thread today, and I'm still curious. What types of stats or production are benefits of higher exit velocity?
  12. Exit velocity seems to the new cool stat in recent years. But I'm still trying to understand the benefit of a hitter having higher exit velocity. Obviously, it indicates he's hitting the ball harder, okay, but what is the end result? A higher OPS? More home runs? A higher slugging percentage? Help me out here, because I honestly want to know why exit velocity is such a hot topic.
  13. You are correct! I forget about young Johnny. Man, I'm showing my age, but I remember as a kid when I got Bench's autograph at a spring training game. What a thrill!
  14. Another unfortunate injury, but we certainly have plenty of other outfielders in the system that are ready to make the next step up. Let the best man play.
  15. And then there was yesterday's game where he proved his worth. At least for a day. Not saying that we need to keep him for the rest of the season, but he may be the least of our problems.
  16. I think that Tait will rise through the system much faster than many people think, but yeah, 2027 may be a year too soon. Then again, in this wacky game of baseball, stranger things have happened. I recall a catcher by the name of Ivan Rodriquez who made his MLB debut at the age of 19. Okay, that may be an outlandish comparison, but just saying: all things are possible, and Tait seems more mature and talented than most prospects his age.
  17. Yes, a good game by Prielipp, although as you noted, his control needs to be better, and trying to limit the number of walks. The number of pitches he threw also surprised me: 84 in this game. I haven't looked up the stats, but that may be a career high for him. I recall only a year ago when he was on a very strict pitch/innings limit. so this was encouraging too.
  18. That was nice to see Banda finally look good, plus how about Sands closing out the game with 2 innings of no-hits and no-walks relief? Very impressive outing for those two pitchers.
  19. When a batter like Martin is leading the team in both batting average and OBP it seems like you would want him in the lineup every single day, either in left field or as DH in a pinch. As JD-TWINS noted, his Lefty/Righty splits are about equal this season. Let the kid play more.
