Bradley had control, and marched through seven innings in which he allowed two runs on just four hits and two walks, while striking out seven. Derek Shelton trusted his newfound workhorse, letting him throw more pitches than any Twins pitcher had since Kenta Maeda was chasing a no-hitter during the 2020 pandemic season. I thought that Bradley's pitch count was quite high, but wow, that comparison truly puts it in perspective. Thanks for doing the research!

Speaking of that bullpen, or what could have been our bullpen ... Varland is pitching like an All-Star in Toronto.

Sadly, we may need to say goodbye to Rogers before too much longer.

Thanks to you and the other folks who answered my question. I'll save my frustrations with launch angle for another day.

What's left is to understand what makes Buxton good, in some ways, even at this relatively late stage of his career—and, in the same moment, to grapple with the real ways in which he's now much less than an elite defender. Relatively late stage of his career ...?! Yikes, I guess that's about right, but it's still a shock to think about Buxton entering the twilight of his playing days. Sure, Buxton ain't a promising young player any longer, but I don't think that means that it's time to contemplate a move to right field or full-time DH. Sure, he's older and has lost a step or two, but I still think he has real value in center field. As Matthew said in the article, Buxton may now be "less reckless" and I can live with that.

Mariners 7, Twins 1: A Game of Two Bullpens
Bangkok Twins Fan replied to Cory Moen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd welcome that move! -
I've been wondering about that too. Seems like a cool stat, but what are the real benefits?

I was asking the same question in another thread today, and I'm still curious. What types of stats or production are benefits of higher exit velocity?

Exit velocity seems to the new cool stat in recent years. But I'm still trying to understand the benefit of a hitter having higher exit velocity. Obviously, it indicates he's hitting the ball harder, okay, but what is the end result? A higher OPS? More home runs? A higher slugging percentage? Help me out here, because I honestly want to know why exit velocity is such a hot topic.

You are correct! I forget about young Johnny. Man, I'm showing my age, but I remember as a kid when I got Bench's autograph at a spring training game. What a thrill!

Alan Roden Injury Thins Twins' Outfield Depth
Bangkok Twins Fan replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Another unfortunate injury, but we certainly have plenty of other outfielders in the system that are ready to make the next step up. Let the best man play. -
And then there was yesterday's game where he proved his worth. At least for a day. Not saying that we need to keep him for the rest of the season, but he may be the least of our problems.
-
I think that Tait will rise through the system much faster than many people think, but yeah, 2027 may be a year too soon. Then again, in this wacky game of baseball, stranger things have happened. I recall a catcher by the name of Ivan Rodriquez who made his MLB debut at the age of 19. Okay, that may be an outlandish comparison, but just saying: all things are possible, and Tait seems more mature and talented than most prospects his age.

Yes, a good game by Prielipp, although as you noted, his control needs to be better, and trying to limit the number of walks. The number of pitches he threw also surprised me: 84 in this game. I haven't looked up the stats, but that may be a career high for him. I recall only a year ago when he was on a very strict pitch/innings limit. so this was encouraging too.

That was nice to see Banda finally look good, plus how about Sands closing out the game with 2 innings of no-hits and no-walks relief? Very impressive outing for those two pitchers.

When a batter like Martin is leading the team in both batting average and OBP it seems like you would want him in the lineup every single day, either in left field or as DH in a pinch. As JD-TWINS noted, his Lefty/Righty splits are about equal this season. Let the kid play more.

I'm very excited that Prielipp is getting called up to the Twins. Been waiting for this day since they drafted him. Man, I feel nervous and jumpy ... and I'm not the one pitching!. But I'm sure Prielipp is thrilled and pumped up that he's getting this chance to start a game. After battling through the various injuries, plus the inning restrictions, he is finally ready to make his MLB debut. Good luck!

I like those ideas. I'm not sure how realistic it will be to make them ALL happen in the near future, but a couple of those moves would be more than welcome by the time the calendar flips.

Not a great start to the season for Keaschall, but I think it's way too early to panic. He's still a very young player and perhaps still working through these changes he's made recently. But as Shelton noted, he's hit at every level and always seems to make the necessary adjustments. Like everyone else, I'm hoping for a turnaround ASAP, but we'll also need a bit of patience.

How does Rodríguez force himself into the Twins lineup, and at whose expense? That’s a fun discussion, but one for another day. Ha! I think you are going to get the discussion here and now! But back to the article, that was a very helpful and informative analysis of the changes that Rodriguez has made this season, ones that I wouldn't notice as an ordinary fan. Good stuff, Jamie! And yes, I hope Rodriguez will find the opportunity to impress us on the big league club sometime very soon.

The extent of Abel's injury won't be clear until the team provides further updates about any imaging taken on the arm, but right away, one must worry about a long-term absence. Inflammation isn't an injury in itself; it's a symptom of fatigue and/or damage, which has some cause. Finding out the cause of the inflammation will tell us whether Abel will be out a few weeks, the rest of the season, or somewhere in between. And that sums it up for now. We just have to wait another day or two (I have no idea how long these imaging tests will take) before we can fully understand the injury. Like everyone else on this site I was very encouraged by Abel's recent starts and looking forward to a great season with him in the rotation. All we can do is wait and hope for the best. The only silver lining to any long-term injury is that it will give another pitcher a chance (Prielipp, Rojas, or even Morris or Zebby?) to make an impression. Not an ideal situation, but like others have said, every team suffers these injury setbacks too.

Okay, I just read the other articles that have since been posted. Seems like both pitchers are coming up. I just they actually get to pitch!
