I agree. As rocky as things have been so far this season, all we can do is try to be patient. Amidst all these waiver claims, maybe we find a keeper or two, plus we have some prospects in the minors. As you noted, better results may take longer than we'd like, but it will happen.

I also thought of Hamilton as a comparison, but yeah, without the addiction issues. With Royce, the sudden decline is more of a mystery.

Very good article and analysis. As an armchair fan, I often don't understand or appreciate factors like the pitcher's arm angle and other such aspects of the delivery (the pitcher's height, etc. ). As for Morris, he seems to be holding his own thus far. I'm not sure if any tweaks to his delivery or pitch arsenal will happen during the season. Seems like it would be less risky to try those changes in the off-season ... or does it really matter?

Agreed, The Twins need to be shaking things up. We need better results somehow, someway. Although Bowman and Arcia are both vets, and I'm inclined to bring up younger prospects, in this case I think we might at well bring up the old folks and see if they can justify the promotion.

Honestly, I don't know what the answer is, but something needs to happen. Royce seems to be healthy, so we can't blame injuries on his lack of production. It's so frustrating from a fan's viewpoint, because he certainly DID show us moments of high-quality play over the past couple of years. But he seems a shell of that player this season.

Very true. I'm just pleased that he was able to come up from AAA, throw more innings than expected, and not get shelled. I hope this extra day's rest will be beneficial in his next start, but at the same time, I hope they don't start pushing for 90-plus pitches each time out. Sure, the bullpen is weak, but we also need to be somewhat careful with our younger arms in the rotation.

I hope you are right. He certainly needs more production to boost his confidence, but what is the best way to get it done? Who would have thought that Royce Lewis would be batting 9th in the order at this point in his career?

Oh yeah, THAT is the Zebby that we expect. His control and lack of walking batters were his strengths in the minors, so I hope he's found that magic again.

Yeah, and plenty of fans were also eager to stick Bradley and/or Abel in the bullpen too. Injuries aside, I'm glad that didn't happen. I just hope the Twins continue to be somewhat patient with their young arms But guys like SWR and Festa may need to try some bullpen duty if all else fails.

Another fun report, Seth. Thanks! Good to see DeBarge getting a couple of big hits. It's cool that he is stealing bases at a good clip this season, but he needs to get on base more often. When I saw the headline, my first thought was: who is Teilon Serrano? That was not a name I knew. But that's also why I enjoy reading these minor league reports, so that I CAN learn more about these prospects. Keep it coming!

In 2005, Silva completed seven or more innings in 21 of his 27 starts, but surpassed 100 pitches in an outing only twice all year. You contrast that with the current environment, where starters rarely venture into the seventh or eighth because their pitch counts have already piled up on longer, strikeout-chasing ABs, and it feels like almost a different game. Wow! Great research dive! That succinctly says it. It's a different game indeed.
