Again let's see them do this with the more experienced players than I will believe there is change.  Bell should not be at 1B ever again and he is there today.  Outman and Kreidler are on this roster as backups to Buxton yet it is Clemens in CF again.  I am not sure there has been a lot of change.  The kids always have the short leash, except Keaschall this year and the "vets" are not held accountable.

That's a good point about Outman and Kreidler.  They're paying a big price to carry guys like that who can't hit.  And at least in Outman's case who's sole purpose is to back up Buxton - and then don't use them to back up Buxton.  Not for the first time, it really makes you wonder if they know what they're doing.

If they weren't willing to spend any more than they did in the offseason, then I find it hard to believe they'd be willing to eat his salary during the season, especially since it isn't like there's a roster crunch blocking anyone banging on the door from coming up right now with all the injuries

He wasn't making millions of dollars.

Is Culpepper on the 40 man? Asking for a couple of range-challenged friends who play near SS…

Not much surprises me anymore, but this one was shocking. That's very surprising.

Makes little sense, unless he requested it. I expect there'll be more tiers to this story.

He said all the right things after being told he'd start with no notice, and helping the team. But that might have been the straw, not that the camel had much left.

We have 38 on it, so that's not the holdup.

I like this move, in part because if the message. This isn’t Rocco’s home of infinite patience any more. You get a chance but you need to produce. SWR was the worst regular starting pitcher in MLB this year and his lack of a dominant pitch made him an unlikely bullpen piece. If he’s claimed, maybe we can trade him for some other team’s project. For those of you wondering about Keaschall, he’s hitting .248/.353/.337 over the last 30, better over the last 7, and playing better defense. I agree that he’s close to the edge, but he hasn’t completely failed like the other three so he needs a little more time.

I would like to see the same treatment of vets. Losing Topa and Garcia was a good first step. Bell should be next even if that means bringing up GG or Fedko. Culpepper should be up soon instead of Outman with Kreidler the backup CF. This year is for development and churn. It won’t be pretty or easy but it has to be done.

So many things involved here that the average fan just has no real idea what all went into this decision. I have no idea how coachable SWR really is. Personalities matter when performance isn’t measuring up and we just don’t know the behind the scenes stuff. The poor guy had a tape worm surgically removed last season. He actually pitched effectively once he got back from that. This year not so much.

Per Bobby Nightengale:

Derek Shelton said the Twins decided to DFA Simeon Woods Richardson because they were short on bullpen arms today.

Shelton added they would’ve liked more time to evaluate SWR in bullpen. “Sometimes there ends up being an odd man out, and it ended up being Sim.” https://www.startribune.com/twins-put-pitcher-simeon-woods-richardson-on-waivers-call-up-john-klein/601851060

If your gonna dfa him then we expect bell to be given the same energy considering he's been terrible since hit hot start after that 1st few series he's been unplayable yet somehow still batting clean up consistently...

Option a guy. Seriously. Also, they refuse to do this with awful hitters that have never been good. I can't wait for this team to be sold and new management.

This. 100000000 times this. But he's a veteran! Proven!

Narrator Voice:  They don't.

No options left

I appreciate that, but then why not option someone who wouldn't be available today?  Or someone with options?

Option someone else.....or DFA one of the terrible bullpen guys who isn't part of the future potentially.

While I would normally agree with you, who is that? Adams has already been optioned and the rest of the guys like Morris, Orze, and Gomez are part of the future bullpen hopefully. You could DFA Taylor Rogers I guess but I don’t see a lot of other candidates. Funderburk just came up and Banda has actually been good lately. I don’t think losing SWR is going to turn out to be a big loss. In fact, I would not be surprised if he is not claimed on waivers since he has no options left. I could also see him being claimed by a team desperate for starting pitching, pitching lousy there, and getting waived again. Hopefully he won’t get claimed and we wind up trying to work out his issues in Saint Paul.

Churn baby churn.

The talent is there when it comes to SWR as a big league pitcher.  I doubt we will ever know the real reason for the DFA but given the sudden decision I lean toward a mutual parting of the ways.  Twins will be fine.  TBD for SWR.

Feels very short sighted to likely lose a 25 year old player because you need a fresh arm for 1 game.

I like BREAKING, as long as an admin comes along 24 hours later and removes it.

Other than Morris, would you really miss any of these guys in a year or two? If so, how is the bullpen this awful?

Hopefully James Outman DFA and bring Gabby back up. I’ve read that Roden and Jenkins are expected back mid-June.

With 2 open spots on the 40 man, that would cover a Jenkins call up, if they want to go that route.  Not needed for Roden, as he's already on the 40 man.

That would leave at least one 40 man spot available, without taking into account other potential roster moves that may be coming.  Who else might it be for?

Other roster fallout would likely also occur as well.  Outman and Bell are two names that fans have been tossing around.  Then, how would all those spots be filled?

Lots of potential questions with no clear answers, as it now looks to me.
