The Minnesota Twins are reportedly "seriously listening" to offers on their expiring deals - namely, Willi Castro, Harrison Bader, and Danny Coulombe. However, the rumor mill has been fairly mum regarding any of those names.

In recent days, the New York Yankees have reportedly been interested in Willi Castro, but that's really the only rumor swirling, excluding Joe Ryan, Jhoan Duran, and Griffin Jax.

Now, Bob Nightengale of USA Today is reporting that the Los Angeles Dodgers have expressed interest in Harrison Bader.

Bader has appeared in 88 games this season, holding a .251 batting average with a .330 OBP and a .435 SLG. He has hit 12 home runs. He was named an SIS Defensive Player of the Month for March/April 2025, leading all players with 7 Defensive Runs Saved and all outfielders with 9 Good Fielding Plays during that period. His defensive play has included diving catches. His wRC+ is 114, and his wOBA is .335.

He'd be handy guy for teams to have. 2.4 WAR already.  A nice right handed bat with power.  Great teammate.  He is going somewhere the only question is where.

As I mentioned on the TD live stream a few days ago, the Twins are really interesting sellers. Their controllable pieces are top-shelf, and even their rentals can fit on pretty much any team.

What team doesn't need a switch-hitting tenth man in Castro?

What team doesn't need a legitimate center fielder, who can play elite corner outfield, all while hitting, in Bader?

What team doesn't need a legit shut down lefty out of the pen in Coulombe?

What team doesn't... um... need a guy nicknamed "The Sheriff"? Sure, we'll go with that.

The problem here is that the Twins will be getting back a deep prospect.  That almost makes it senseless to go after a hitting prospect, since Twins can't identify or develop hitting.  On the other hand, they can look for a deep pitching prospect to develop.  But I doubt they'll be there to develop it.

Well said and I totally agree.  Now let's just hope the returns are things that can help this team fairly soon.

I think Bader is simalar to Nelson Cruz and Eduardo Escobar. Escobar better three prospects with FVs 40+, 40 and below 35. For Cruz they got two 45s and Ryan slotted in below Strotman according the Fangraphs. To make that deal happen the Twins needed to add a prospect back.

Someone in that 40-45 range for the Dodgers will have some success in the majors. The Twins need to find that guy.

Does anyone feel a little queasy thinking about returns for the expiring contracts? Guess we shall see. The only reason to hold those players is out of spite for the offers. Is that a thing even? The Twins don't look like a fully functioning team these days. Does Boston wake them up?

Selling off expiring contracts also opens a space in the roster and an opportunity to someone who they do control for next year.

And that might be the most important thing.  It should give them time to bring young players up, get them acclimated and find out who looks like they might possibly be ready and who doesn't which will also play into what they think their needs will be in the offseason.

They also might get some guys in these trades that they can try out as well.  They need to make changes and create more depth.  They ran it back from last year and it didn't work. Need some other players to step up. Might as well find out who that might be when the season is lost versus next year when hopefully they are a more consistent team out of the gate.  Won't have time to try guys out then as every game will count.

Bader/Paddack package with The Sheriff going into the Dodger pen (a definite need) isn’t terribly far fetched.

Bader/Jax nets Rushing and somebody else from their system?

This is a best case scenario.  Rushing fills a significant need.  He can play C/1B, but his playing time is limited in LA behind Smith and Freeman.  Between AA/AAA last year he hit .271/ 26 HR/ .896 OPS.  I don't like giving the Dodgers any help, but that is who the Twins should target.

We may be even able to swindle Jax for Rushing straight up, but if we have to add someone else, the Twins need to consider that.

Churio of the Brewers is another possible target……..seems Castro would fit there very well, with maybe Sands and a young arm, & hang on to Jax?

Did you mean Quero?  Quero would be ok, but not my first choice.  I don't think he the same type of hitter Rushing is, but is a better defensive catcher.

The other guy they could target would be Ballesteros in the Cubs organization, but that would probably require at least Jax or Duran (one of the two) plus at least Bader or Castro.

There is no way the Brewers would trade Jackson Churio.

Since this is the Harrison Bader thread, here is my hot Harrison Bader take:

Offer Bader a short term but generous extension to platoon with Larnach and Wallner in 2026-2027, and provide Buxton insurance. (For those of you old enough to remember that Buxton was once an injury-prone player.)

I have no problem trading the other expiring contracts or some middle of the ladder bullpen arms. Or even putting one of Wallner or Larnach in a trade, but I would keep Bader.

Bader is going to test the market this off-season based upon an excellent (for him) offensive showing and his usual strong and versatile OF defense.  Why would he re-sign with the Twins who are losing and on a losing trajectory?

He wouldn't.

Bader believes he is a full time player. The Twins signed him as a 4th/5th outfielder. That is his ceiling.

Can't blame Bader for wanting a full time gig. Hope he gets the contract he is looking for but the Twins should pass.

And after the deadline passes the Twins will probably need all of those things.

On their way to a 78-win season?

Rumor has it that another season is planned for 2026.  However, if it makes you feel better, there is less certainty about 2027.

What do Bader, Castro, Paddack, and Coulombe have to do with the 2026 season? None of them are under contract.

Another rumor I've heard is that sometimes fellas NOT under contract sign new contracts with their current team.

Not in the TD universe.
