Hernandez isn't only an upgrade, he is one of the few right handed bats that has been elite in the past that could flip a switch similar to what happened with the braves and the outfielders they traded for a couple years ago.  If we are going to get a bat thats the one I want.

LOL!  And watch him flail away against rightness. Meh.

He wouldn't play against RHP.  That's what the glut of left handed hitting is for.

RoFLMAO!!  So you want to use him as a short-side platoon guy??

This is the Twins. Why is that so surprising?

They generally only do deals where they think they are getting the much better value,  with the exception of last year.   That was more of an all in move, and they know it cost them a bit.  So I expected to be much more reserved.  If trades come to them they will do it,  and likely at the last minute.

So many arm-chair GMs in this forum with a loser's mindset. Always wanting to play for next year or two years down the road. This team has a glaringly obvious need, bullpen arms and a right handed bat. How many games has this bullpen cost the Twins this year? Many. If they even had half of those back, they'd have a very nice lead in the division.

Silly to sit on your hands here. Borderline dereliction of duty.

We should be getting some arms back from injury though,  we can also move a starter to the bullpen.  I feel like we have enough arms to compete,  although an extra 1 or 2 would be good.

If that is your opinion of this team, why are you even a fan?

If you haven't noticed that the Twins heavily use platoons are you even a fan? Is it so terrible to use a guy who rocks against left handed pitchers, but struggles against righties in situations where he'll mostly hit against lefties? If he joined the team he'd immediately be the batting leader ahead of Correa, not because he's a great hitter, but because he'd be one of the few people on the team who has enough ABs to qualify.  So yes, I'd use him in a platoon role. And the Twins would be better off.

Wow! Who in their right mind would veto the Dodgers?  I mean they are always in the thick of it.

Someone with an accountant.

It's not enough. They should add a few and get some of the dead weight off the roster.

Having said that, there are people in here that genuinely want to sell.

They have a first place team. For crying out loud, be aggressive for a change.

But you're asking them to be aggressive for being aggressive's sake.  There is not much out there left to be had for the cost to get them.  This team is ok.  Maybe they'll win the division, but I don't think it's worth giving up prospects for.  And honestly they could be a seller and still have a punchers chance at the division.

They were aggressive last year and look at how that turned out. We can't afford losing prospects.

What is humorous about that?

Tommy Pham has been traded,  walked out of the stadium in street clothes, now the question is which team is he going to.

Pham and Raley to the Twins for…Maeda, Gallo, and a lower tier prospect?

Kinda seems like the Twins’ trade acquisition was….Dylan Floro.

Yes it was. We can say that the Twins did Jorge Lopez a solid by allowing him to play close to home/family while he tries to get it back together as a baseball pitcher.

He'd get paid the same amount there for the last 2 months of his contract.  Plus his accountant/agent would probably be able to put better deals together for him in the off season had he gone to a playoff team.  I'd get it if he still had 3 years on his deal and would be stuck somewhere he doesn't want to be?

False.  MLB players get W-2s for each state in which they play a game.  He’d be playing more games in California vs. Michigan.  California’s top marginal income tax rate is nearly 14%.  Michigan’s is between 4-5%.  He’d be paying 10% more tax on home games (and the other multitude of away games vs. the Giants and Pads).

Thats why people hire accountants.  To save them money.  He saved a ton (by my standards) by staying in Detroit.

The national league isn’t easier on pitchers anymore.  He’s currently pitching in the worst division in baseball with nobody that can score runs, on a team with zero expectations and pressure.  He’s not going to get a substantially better deal going to Dodgers in his next round of free agency.  If he struggles in any way, he’s much more likely to get yanked from the rotation and not get another shot.

Also, personal opinion here, but LA sucks.  If I got offered a transfer to an office out there I’d turn it down also.  But, to each their own.

Either Falvey remains so shell-shocked by his recent trade failures or he's so sure he's keeping his job that he has become this complacent. What an absolute failure especially with Brock Stewart having a setback this past weekend.

The best overall pitching staff most of us have ever seen on the Twins and a chance to beef up the top heavy pen and potentially add a right handed bat so we don't have to see so much of Gallo, Castro, MAT, Farmer and they just punt the opportunity away just like they did in the offseason.

We all recognize the playoff losing streak and Twins curse. We also recognize this curse most likely stems from terrible pitching staffs in years they make the playoffs and taking advantage of the terrible AL Central which has been the worst division consistently for nearly 2 decades now.

And because they did nothing and haven't cleared a 40 man roster spot they're going to lose Keuchel who did everything they hoped for in AAA and more. How many good players has the duo of Cole Sands and now gone Jake Cave blocked by being on the 40 these last few years?

At least call up some of the minors bullpen help in guys like Funderbunk and Boyle dominating AAA, but they'd rather stick with Moran, Ortega, Sands.

I’ve made the same choice myself.

Hmm, Kansas City went to the Worls Series in 2014 and 2015 winning the latter, so the other division must have REALLY BAD.

This "blocking" scgtick sounds like a little moaning to his parnent thats not FAIR, they simply were not good enough , nothing to do with any "blocking" schtick.

They can still clear a 40 man spot...

I can somewhat understand not grabbing a RH bat. Maybe the front office feels that the likes of Pham and Hernandez wouldn't move the needle all that much with Lewis being close to a return and Polanco being back. Okay, fine. But...there is absolutely no excuse for failing to add to the bullpen especially when Stewart looks like he could be heading for TJ surgery.

This front office has a tendency to overcorrect. They swung and missed last August. This year, they don't even pick up a bat. It is amateur hour in Minnesota.
