Sure, but claiming great positioning on every play where a guy happens to be standing where a ball is hit is maybe partially good positioning but also involves A LOT of luck, especially when you're talking about a guy standing basically where he usually stands in a straight-up defense.

 

I can't remember when it happened, maybe July, but the Twins shifted every player over about a week *exactly* how the numbers dictated and were absolutely killed by it because the coin kept flipping the other direction.

 

And the inverse happened, too. More than a few times I watched Cruz or Cron or whomever make a bad swing and get a double out of it because they hit the ball that direction like 10% of the time and defenders were completely out of position to get to an 80mph ball that should be an easy out.

 

That's baseball.

Can anyone here think of another team in Baseball history that has had as epic of a collapse? Maybe the 1990 A's against the Reds?

 

Yankees Red Sox 04. Changed the course of baseball history. One day we might have to do that

I was told our additions of "veteran leadership" would help this team win postseason games. Marwin, Nelson, and Romo all had experience winning playoff games. So much for that!

 

Just an abysmal game for the hitters. For all the talk of needing postseason experience, Luis Arraez, a mere rookie, was hands down the team's best hitter in this series. 

 

This feels like the end of a Vikings season... getting out of the 90+ loss seasons is nice, but now it's back to the getting their butts kicked in the playoffs routine. Ugh. I guess that's what I get for being a Minnesota sports fan.

Well gang, it's been a hell of a year.  A lot went right, but a lot went wrong.  We've seen Kepler, Polanco, Garver, and Sano all take a huge step forward and we've seen the emergence of Arraez.  We are a different team without Buxton roaming CF.  We traded for an upgrade to the pen which didn't work out so well.  Arguably our best starter got suspended.  Those were all things that we needed to advance.

 

Next year, we will be the favorites in the Central to repeat.  We will need a lot to go right again to do that.

Honestly, I think we should appreciate that we are on the longest postseason losing streak in the history of American sports. Like actually think about that. Someday, hopefully in the not to distance future, we will be popping champagne after winning our 11th (or 12 if it takes the WC) win of the postseason and we will think back to this streak and laugh.

At 6:52 a.m., the sun is scheduled to arise (or Arraez, as the case may be). I plan to enjoy another day. And begin counting down the approximately 130 days until pitchers and catchers report. I hope next season is even more fun.

Hey, in two years, the Twins have gone from a 90 loss season, to winning the division and making the playoffs.

 

This wasn't a baby step, it was a huge step.

 

Remains to be seen if the FO makes some moves to take the next even bigger step.
