Some recent updates on a few players:

JT Chargois- after a scorching April, May was not so good- 6.2 IP, 11 H, 7 BB< 9 K, AVG .393, WHIP 2.70

  optioned to AAA

Aaron Hicks- 146 AB, .253/.353/.784, 6 of 7 in SB

John Hicks- 136 AB, .272/.315/.756, playing mainly 1B

Anthony Swarzak- on DL since April 2

Pedro Florimon- 57 AB, .263/.323/.814 (I'll take the under on that one)

Dereck Rodriquez- 9.1 IP, 10 H, 3 BB, 10 K, WHIP 1.39, ERA 1.93 (I wish him the best, as long as it stays in the National League)

If Chargois was optioned, doesn’t he return to the Twins?

Dodgers picked him up on waivers during our run-up to the Rule 5 draft. He wasn't drafted, was simply added to their 40-man.

I believe he was waived off the 40-man, so he belongs to the Dodgers outright. He wasn't a rule 5 guy.

Ah, right; my mistake. Thanks.

"At the center of it all is John Ryan Murphy, who has gone 10 for 30 with five homers and 10 rbi's in his last seven starts."

Reminds me of Chris Herrmann's hot start for Arizona a few years ago. Herrmann's was more fueled by BABIP than dingers, but I expect this will fade too.

Best HR percentages in the majors this year are all in the 7-8% area...Betts, Harper, Machado, Trout, JD Martinez, etc.  John Ryan Murphy's sits at 9.2%.  If Arizona starts him every remaining game, he projects to about 46, which I think would break Johnny Bench's record.  Of course his 3/24 BB/K ratio and his 2% HR rate in 8 minor-league seasons would suggest that pitchers might be able to make some adjustments going forward :)

In the meantime, I'd trade Moya back for him in a heartbeat (given our organizational situation at the position).

Yeah...

JR Murphy 2018: 8 HR in 87 PA

JR Murphy rest of MLB career: 5 HR in 381 PA

Babe Ruth after 407 PA: 9 HR

Babe Ruth rest of career: 10216 PA, 705 HR

After a slow start this guy seems to be on a better pace now than the Babe. I rest my case.

He was terrible, and they replaced him with Castro. I have no issue with that decision.

Now, adding why he was terrible here.... That's legit.

Anyone second guessing letting him go, I don't get that. He was terrible here.

He had fewer than 100 PA as a Twin. Not sure that’s sufficient to make a value judgement on any player.

true, if those were he only PA in professional baseball..... but it's really about Castro, isn't it?

Looking back, who would you rather have at that time?

Baseball is weird. If JRM becomes a power hitter all of a sudden chalk it up to baseball is weird.

There was nothing in his past, present, or future to indicate he could hit for power.

Isn’t it more about Chris Giminez? There’s no question Murphy wasn’t good enough to be a starter when he was a Twin. But he was good enough to be a back up.

Murphy turned 26 a few months before they traded him. Their are plenty of players that didn’t look very good as they turn 26. How excited were we about Dozier through age 25?

Murphy was awful at the plate last year but also young enough to hope that he would bat enough to be a major leaguer.

Murphy also had 508 PA in Rochester (and compiled likely his 2 worst minor league seasons to date in the process).

What's most amazing to me is that in the whole dang system there isn't anyone better than Wilson????

Palka keeps putting up good numbers for the ChiSox. Frankly, I'm stumped. I didn't think he would even see much if any major league action. Shows what I know!

Anibal Sanchez 1.93 ERA for Atlanta.

Sanchez has been injured for most of the year, so it's a pretty small sample. And that 1.93 ERA is a 4.17 FIP, thanks to a .203 BABIP (his career mark, and the league average, is .300).

And then I would trade Murphy back to the Yankees for Aaron Hicks! (especially given our organizational situation with Buxton out, and not hitting anyway! And even for a 4th outfielder if Buxton does start hitting again, ever, and GET RID OF GROSSMAN!)

It very well could be the "environment" is the contributing factor. He did pretty well in the Yankees system, too. So well that some genius traded Aaron Hicks for him! Only failed in the Twins.

It looks like JR Murphy will continue to get significant, even most, games for the D-backs behind the dish.  Alex Avila has apparently completely forgotten how to hit.  And, fwiw, it's doing damage to Murphy's numbers.  Slashing 182/270/182 over last 11 games.  OPS still 803 for the year.
