Bard just came in to relieve Otani to start the third after he was pulled after 2 and 66 pitches and behind 3-0, and the honeymoon is over. 4 hits and a HBP, 3 of the hits homers, and he gave up 5 earned in his inning. ERA now up to 5.79.

Whose honeymoon? Otani's or Bard's? Either way, Boston is a buzzsaw. Yikes. Bard fixed his BB issues though. He gave up his fourth homer of the game as I was typing this.

Ha. Both, eh? I had to make a phone call, and missed the next inning. I can't believe they brought Bard out for another inning. And that they pulled Otani at the first sign of trouble after only 2 inning and just down 3-0.

Update:

Otani got a blister..... that is the reason for the quick exit

Well, Otani also threw 66 pitches in 2 innings. That's pretty high-stress.

The quick hook didn't make sense...... without the rest of the story.

Blisters are a pain. I got one from driving an old truck without power steering, in no time it seemed. I am such a wimp.

Even calluses can get a blister under it, and the whole thing falls off. Guitar players know, too.

Some people get a little headache ;) , and sit out an entire game or two.....

Pittsburg fans at spring training complained about being in "rebuilding mode" for 25 years.  I'm not sure the Browns have ever been rebuilding...more like recovering.

Pittsburg had 3 years of playoff baseball in a row, how quick fans forget.  The 40 years before that is another matter. Can Hunnington do it again? Maybe. Maybe not, as Ryan found out. The Browns have missed the playoffs for 15 seasons and have had only 2 winning seasons in their current incarnation.

I noticed that Carlos Gomez now plays for the Rays too in addition to Wilson Ramos and Denard Span - looking forward to watching the games this weekend!

JT Chargois had another great outing today.... He came in in the 7th with a runner on first. He had a WP on the 2nd pitch (should have been scored a passed ball as Grandal should have had it, not even in the dirt) to advance the runner to second, but struck Maybin out swinging on 4 pitches. A lame ground out advanced the inherited runner, Bour, to third with 2 outs. A six pitch swinging strikeout (the last two of the strikes swinging with one ball called and 2 fouls) ended the inning and stranded the runner at third. 2 strikeouts - both swinging - and a lame ground out on 14 pitches, 10 strikes. They are still calling him Char-gwah (char as in Charlotte).

Interesting thing about Chargois: the Dodgers are using him in high leverage. 1.65 average game entering leverage index. That leads the Dodgers, is higher than any Twin right now except Rodney, is comparable to Addison Reed's career mark, etc.

Chargois with a rough last 2 outings, ERA jumped from 1.35 to 4.40.

I missed that. Too bad for him. As far as other ex-Twins relief pitchers, i see that Texas is still using Kevin Jepsen fairly often. He's been up and down so far, lately on the downside, with an ERA at over 5.00.

For anyone bemoaning the loss of Aaron Hicks he isn't all that and a bag of chips.

He would fit on the Twins team pretty well, I'll tell you that much.

He's down from last year, and it looks like he is in one of his low BABIP valleys, but even so, Aaron Hicks has a 91 wRC+ this season (ahead of Grossman's 2018, basically equal to Buxton's 2017), plus defense, plus baserunning, all out of CF. On pace for a roughly 2.0-2.4 WAR season, which is solidly average.

I was going to ask if you meant John Hicks, but I just looked him up and he appears to have been fairly useful in Detroit so far too...

Niko  Goodrum had 2 home runs in a game yesterday, giving a "makeshift" Tigers team a victory over Cleveland. I'm sure Gardy was excited. Man, where did this power come from?

Our old friend Pedro Florimon did it again, not only pitching a scoreless inning of relief for the Phillies, but homering in the same game too. a trick that even Otani hasn't done (yet) this year. I also love the original headline on the story on Yahoo news that touted the accomplishment by the Philadelphia "star" player!

Randy Rosario pitching for the Cubs.

Randy Rosario batting for the Cubs too! First plate appearance of his entire professional career. Drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch, and had to run the bases a bit as well (advancing to third) before scoring on a teammate's HR.
