Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Duffey was in the pen for today's game. Molitor mentioned he would stay there for the time being. What's the corresponding roster move going to be tomorrow? Trade deadline deal for Abad/Milone/Nolasco? Send Duffey to triple A?
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Well, Berrios is coming up, the other half hasn't been announced, but that tells me that either Kintzler or Abad won't be with the team shortly.

Boshers was also fairly low leverage, which is presumably innings that Duffey will take, at least at first.
King Provisional Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I would rather send Duffey to AAA to work stuff out, than have him pitch out of the bullpen in a non contending year. In any case, depending on what trades are made he could still be in the rotation come next week.

That could work as well. I suspect they've probably got several offers on the table for Abad/Kintzler and are just waiting for other pieces to fall.
insane16 Provisional Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Ahh crap, I misspelled Duffey (twice) and can't figure out how to fix.Counting the headline, you spelled DUFFEY wrong three times. That makes it a spelling and math issue.I want to make a wisecrack about Wisconsin Public School System, but that would say something else about my Minnesota Ethics Education.

DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Duffey to the pen makes sense if we're talking about working on some mechanical issues there and for shorter game stints. But Duffey to the pen if you still think of him as a future starter is just repeating the same old mistakes again.
spinowner Provisional Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 If I'm managing Berrios starts every fifth game until October arrives. Same with Gibson. Same with Santana as well, assuming he stays with us. Beyond that, whoever they think needs the exposure for a potential waiver deal or whoever they think should be evaluated as a future starter.

In any case, depending on what trades are made he could still be in the rotation come next week.I think this is a good move, if not likely insignificant. It can't hurt to see what he looks like out of the pen; does he gain a few tics of velocity and is his curve nastier there...would be good to find out. Does his mental/emotional approach fit better there? Things to find out. It also saves on his innings/arm this year. I guess one less roster instability turnover face by keeping him up too. I can understand why you think having him start in AAA is better, but I also don't think this at all classes the door on him starting next year, or even in a WEEK or TWO due to trades/injuries/demotions/outrights. I think he is likely NOT the guy we saw last year in the long run, but he might be abel to fix some things in the pen to get back closer to that at least. We are in for a lot more instability the rest of the year likely. How long will Berrios leash be if he stumbles this time? What becomes of Milone and Nolasco if they can't be shipped off and continue to struggle? Do we immediately say enough is enough on them, or continue to force a puzzle piece where it doesn't fit with them? Do the AAAA down in AAA rotation get more shots to give us false hope in small sample sizes up here to secure them spots next year? Basically, who cares if Duffey is in the pen right now because....well, go wherever you want to with the ending of this. Anyone want to help me move this week..it is a lot more important (to me.)

twins_89 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I think it's a good idea to see what Duffey looks like in the bullpen. Going into next season it would be nice to know if he can succeed in a relief role. The other move that needs to happen is to put May back into the rotation.
Rosterman Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Duffy is the eprfect example of what is wrong with the Twins. You are blocking a home-grown starter with what -- Nolasco, Milone. Okay, the guy hasn't been hot stuff. Maybe a trip down to Rochester for the final month, let him get that curve back, plug him into the bullpen as a September callup if need be. But it also shows the weakness of the Twins system for now. Who do you have on the 40-man. Duffy and Dean. Period. You can advance the new guy if you wish (and they should at some point). You have Wheeler. If you do a housecleaning of GUYS WHO WON'T BE CONTRIBUTING MUCH IN 2017 OR BLOCKING OTHERS then you can also get some AAA starts for a Jay or a Stewart or a Gonsalves. Just think what 4 or so starts would do for them going into the Arizona Fall League. But we just wait and see. May mired in the bullpen. Duffy a one-year winner. Dean a wonderment on why he was added to the 40-man in the first place. Nolasco in Year Three of being a stinko-o in the rotation. Milone doing what Milone does best -- confuse the staff -- to keep or not to keep, that is a question? Hey, Pressly got his first save. Imagine...a baseball team...with no starter with 200 innings pitched or 1`0 victories, a bullpen with no wonder saving 10 games...or a relief corps that combined saves less than any other relief corps. You are entering...The Twins Zone! De-pee-dee-pee-dee-peee.....

Deadline has barely passed and they have a game in an hour. They could have had Shaggy up here, with the corresponding move pending deadline activity, like they did with Berrios. I can't understand why Shaggy is still in AAA.
