Duffey back to the rotation, Milone to the pen

IMHO...

Tyler Duffey NEEDS to be sent to Rochester until September 1 call-up.

Pat Dean NEEDS to be sent OUTRIGHT (removed from 40-man) to Rochester.

Jason Wheeler NEEDS to be added to 40-man (replacing Pat Dean)

Jason Wheeler NEEDS to be added to 25-man (replacing Tyler Duffey)

Jason Wheeler's 2016 stats

9-3 W-L 2.55 ERA 27 BB 111 K .233 OBA 1.09 WHIP

Anyone besides me baffled as to why Milone didn't go to the pen instead of Duffey to begin with?

You are SPOT ON CORRECT!

thanks for the quote. Anyone besides me baffled as to why Milone didn't go to the pen instead of Duffey to begin with?

The Twins were still trying to trade Milone as a starter.  That would have been more difficult if you just announced he was going to the bullpen.  Milone will either be a waiver pickup by some team who missed out on their starting pitcher or DFA in August.

Of course, Duffey could make the happen sooner if he just could have a good start.

I'm not quite sure the love for Wheeler.  Not a bad prospect I suppose, but he's going to be more of what it is that we don't want in the rotation... very limited upside.  He is having a good year in Rochester doing the whole pitch to contact thing, striking out 7.5 or so per 9 innings while limiting walks. For his minor league career, he's looking at a K/9 of 6.5.  Perhaps he's figured something out and those peripherals will improve over the next couple years, but guys like Wheeler/Dean are good to be stashed in AAA while they have options and called up for the occasional spot start.

I think Duffey is likely to have a much better career, whether that's in the rotation or pen I'm not sure presently.  Decisions around Duffey should be based on what is best for his development.  I'd lean personally towards keeping him in the rotation.

Wheeler is no long term answer, but maybe deserves his four weeks of fame in an MLB tryout. He is 25, and it's probably now or never. Duffey needs to work on his mechanics during a month of bullpens away from MLB pressure. Mejia is possibly the long term answer. Right now there are no MLB-ready starters on the 40-man-roster. That is why Wheeler (who has the best 2016 AAA-AA numbers) needs to replace Pat Dean (horrible numbers) on the 40-man. In September, the problem will go away.

So it looks like with the loss of Abad and the addition of Santiago, they want to keep 3 lefties in the pen and not have 2 in the rotation so Duffey is a starter and Milone moves to the pen.

May be old news but with all the trades, Star Trib reporting Milone going to the pen for long relief, Rogers or Pressley to be used in late innings. Duffey starting Wednesday's game.

that said, ya, no need for me to watch Boshers give up a run every appearance......

I tried to warn you guys. My one-inning in-person in-depth scouting report from Pawtucket several weeks ago was essentially "he coughed up a run to blow a save situation. Not A Prospect." But nooooo, you wouldn't listen.... :)

I would agree on this, too. We kept Pat Dean as a possibility. In the off-season, the Twins have to decide if they want Wheeler on the 40-man. RIght now, if Duffy goes back to Rochester and Milone is somethinged, they could add Wheeler to the 40-man, let him start one...two...three...four games or so and see what they have, if they like it or not. The he becomes that off-season 40-man decision (which Dean and, at this point, even Duffy are candidates for elimination).

And, again, the Twins have a few open spaces. So you aren't eliminating ANYONE right now. Plus, if you do want to eliminate anyone, you can run Dean and Romero thru waivers in August and see if anyone claims them, or they pass and you take them off the 40-man but still keep them in the organization.

Otherwise, I'm getting tired of looking at a roster of Red Wings that will never deserve to be in the majors. A rotation of Wheeler, Darnell, Albers, Greenwood, Dean. Bullpen arms like: Wimmers, Brunett, Baxendale, Walden, O'Rourke, Ramirez.

Hitters like: Beresford, Schafer, Mastro, Field, Tovar, Paulino, Rodriguez, Britton.

Where are the prospects? Right now, Charglois is it for pitching, I guess. Murphy, Walker and Park are on the 40-man. Palka is getting high raves.

Do any of the other also ans deserve a shot to see if they can be a part of contribute to the Twins now or again?

Have the Twins completely abandoned the idea of Trevor May ever starting again?  Seems hard to believe given how he was doing before being moved to the pen.

i guess this is plausible. Do you REALLY think RA had a real shot at getting anything of value for Milone and that being a starter for those two days would have made a difference?

Smells like something else happened. Less trade, more personnel/doghouse related

yep Gleeman predicted it last year. Something to the effect of "May has started his last game for the twins"

Gleeman was hardly alone in that prediction.

Wow.  I just don't get it.  Guy has 4 pitches and was more consistent than Duffey or Gibson this year.

There is no point in putting Milone in the pen, he won't be here next year. Just cut him.

Certainly holding out desperate hope of an August PTBNL is worth blocking Chargois from getting MLB experience....right?

There are a handful of effective soft-tossing relievers around. I'll be curious to see if Milone can resurrect his career in relief these next two months. Who knows maybe we can flip him at next year's deadline for a promising prospect or two.

I would be willing to bet that Milone is gone before the season's end.  The later we get into the season the less money he is owed.  My guess is some NL team will claim him

he certainly won't get tendered for next year, will he?
