Just Curious? Why not Arcia?

Why don't I see Arcia being called up??  I mean he is decent was projected to hit 20+ Hrs this year.  I just cant believe he isnt one of the 30 some best players in the organization?

Maybe this belongs on the whining thread?

He is batting <.100 for the last 1.5 months.  He is very talented but he doesn't make the team better right now.

and yet hunter is putting up worse numbers and is the starting RF...

Oh, I haven't followed his minor league numbers, I just know when he was up he was hitting .276 with a .338 on base.  So maybe attitude is affecting performance?

Torii's just in a little 200 at-bat slump. He's due to snap out of it anytime as 40 year-olds do. The key is to keep running him out there.

I suspect that his hip injury is the main culprit there.  Those tend to linger.

He's out of options next year (which I might add is a position he's in due to being called up before he needed to be on the 40 man), so he's pretty much a lock to make the team next season.  But keeping him in AAA is probably the right thing.  Will be interesting to see what his role is next year.

I think and hope Hicks will come up and Hunter will be benched by this weekend. That would improve RF offense and defense

Hicks is eligible to come off the DL today, but for some reason (gotta be conservative!), they are having him play another AAA rehab game....after going 4-4 last night with a HR.

Anyways, the good news is he will be up Friday, and the Rosario, Buxton, Hicks OF trio hopefully will stick for the rest of the season.

I think he ends up the starting DH or starting RF for the Twins opening day next year. I have a feeling that Buxton will start the season in AAA (unless he suddenly turns it on in Sept, or has a lights out spring training) Buxton looks like he could use a little more seasoning.

If that happens, Arcia is prob the every day guy in RF when the season starts, Hicks in CF and Rosario in LF.

Or if the Twins trade Plouffe, which I think is 75% likely, it suddenly opens up the DH spot for Vargas/Arcia to compete over.

I wanted to see him up since he's out of options next year and a decision has to be made.  His MLB track record shows he has value, I'd be pretty disappointed if the team lost him for next to nothing.

This may sound impossible but you are wrong.

Arcia in August - .107/.159/.227/385

Hunter in August - .130/.218/.246/.464

Hunter has been awful for 2 months but really Hunter has nothing to do with Arcia not being called up.  He has been one of the worst players in AAA for 1.5 months.  There is absolutely no reason to promote him to the majors.  None.  Zero.  Nada.

Hunter should be getting benched though.

MHO....it's about attitude

Was there something about his attitude somewhere that I missed?

Given that he must be injured, he should probably just be playing nowhere and should have been playing nowhere for some time.

Also, the *assumptions* about his attitude are pissing me off. The only issue that has ever, to my knowledge, been mentioned about Arcia is that he is seemingly not listening to instruction about not smacking bombs every time. But that also isn't very clear, either. You don't hit over 100 OPS+ in the big leagues for two seasons before age 24 by being a bad overall hitter who is merely trying to hit homers.

I'm thinking the Twins didn't promote Hicks immediately because he'd have to hop on a flight to Minnesota and then turn around and hop on another flight to Houston the next day.

For one game, it makes more sense to skip the Minnesota flight and have him meet the team in Houston.

If that doesn't happen... *shrugs*

Just an opinion. I am NOT saying the kid is a bad egg. But we know he is a bit of a free spirit. We have heard he has sometimes been resistant to instruction. I hope he is not injured. If he is, I hope he heals up before next season. But I have to wonder, if he was hurt badly enough to have the low points and bad streaks that he has had this season, then why wasn't he disabled again?

Perhaps he's down on himself. Perhaps he's down on the whole season. Perhaps he's lacking confidence right now. So, IMO, until I hear something disclosing injury, I'm saying its "attitude".

I stated a week ago that despite the poor season, I was in favor of bringing him up for a one month fresh start toward the offseason and next year.

Why don't I see Arcia being called up??

The MLB Players Association lost their dispute regarding minimum quality of player's haircuts.

Any expectations that there are a few more call-ups when the 40-man roster guys minor league teams' seasons are over?

I'm pretty sure Meyer will be back up, 1 er in last 15 ip and representative k/bb. Maybe even Polanco when the Chattanooga season ends.

Not sure the Twins would need anyone else with Hicks coming back.

First of all, options have nothing to do with being called up. Rather, a team uses an option when a player is sent down. Since Terry Ryan played yo yo with him the past 3 seasons, he is now out of options. Since he posted a 100 ops+ his first season up, I wouldn't consider that being called up too early. Especially since that team lost 90+ games. He was one of the best hitters on the team that season, and the next, and would have been this season too had be not been injured.

Call me crazy, but I would rather have had Arcia as a PH today instead of Santana....

Guessing, but it could be that Arcia never really got over the hip injury that put him on the DL. Fear of re-injuring it could have taken the power out of his swing. We'll see next season.

Well Buxton is an automatic out nowadays.

I would prefer to see Kepler instead.

Kepler, Rosario and Hicks would make a fine outfield.

Would absolutely love to see Darnell and Meyer come up.

Darnell because I think he has the potential to be a very useful LHRP, not just a LOOGY, who can actually get a SO or two.

And Meyer as a confidence booster as he's been doing much better as of late, and I'd like to see him keep up the positive momentum a little longer.
