I wonder if part of this move has to do with the use of all the pen last nite?

They have plenty of better options at AAA they could bring up, plus the Twins have an off day today anyways. Graham is likely the only one who can't "go" on Friday.

Normally after 13 innings you'd think yes, but only Boyer and Graham (who never pitches anyway) got over-extended.  The rest of the pen was depleted by using them to face only a batter or two.  They should be good to go.

Agree with Brandon. They had to call him up. He's got a good track record of being a solid MLB reliever (certainly more than a few others in the bullpen) and he now has had that rest/rehab time. Give him 2-4 more outings to see if he becomes what he was, otherwise Fien will be back soon.

The Twins invested some $$ in him and I'm sure they want to give him one last opportunity before they cut-bait.

My guess- another reliever is going to be moved in the next day or two, with a field player replacing him.

OK, it's a hope, but I'll go ahead and make it a guess.

Even when Stauffer got people out, it seemed like he was on the brink of disaster--lots of breaking pitches up in the zone without much bite, "fastballs" that don't hit 90 over the middle of the plate.  I fail to see what he offers.

I would be more sympathetic to your comment if the Twins were in fifth place yet again...don't quite see a Titanic-style event happening at the moment.

Perhaps we'll be fortunate enough to get two terrible Stauffer outings (that don't cost us wins, somehow) and they can cut ties with him.  Or maybe we'll be unlucky enough to have him pitch well, and be stuck with him.  Wait, which...?  Sometimes I get confused about what people hope for around here.

This bullpen is a ticking time bomb.

How do you "hide" three pitchers in the relief corp (Duensing, Graham, Stauffer) even with a 13-,man staff?  I see lots of late-game crooked numbers in the Twins' future.

It never seizes to amaze me the leash a guaranteed deal north of $2M will get you on this team.  $2.2M is not a lot of money.  We have better pitchers (plural) in AAA.

Stauffer MLB      9.2 IP, 8.38 ERA, 2.27 WHIP, 16 H.  2 K
Stauffer AAA      5.0 IP, 5.40 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, 2 K

Oliveros  AAA   19.1 IP, 1.86 ERA, .98 WHIP, 30 K
Achter   AAA      19 IP, 2.37 ERA, .63 WHIP, 16 K

Actually, i have liked Graham, other than the ONE real bad outing he has been more than ok, i just dont think they want to overexpose him and have him lose confidence if they dont trully think he is ready, but i agree with the Duensing, Stauffer and eventually Boyer.

LIghten up folks.  It's not like we're sending Willie Mays down.  It's Doug F'ing Bernier. 8 games might be a little early to pull the plug on a guy with a solid major league  track record as a middle reliever.  Need to give the guy at least 4 more games to see what he's got.  Where would this team be right now if they had cut bait on Boyer after 4 games?

Is Oliveros on the 40 man, b/c I really have to wonder why it is he's not up with the big club...

He's not. AJ Achter, Logan Darnell, and Caleb Thielbar are the relievers in Rochester that are on the 40 man.

Obviously, because 33 year old Stauffer is part of the future here.
