We needed another late inning guy and Hoffman has done that and done it well in the past, including the last 2 months. He's a little like Griffin Jax was, a very good to great 7th and 8th inning guy who turns into a pumpkin in a save situation. I see Minter and he handling a lot the 8th inning duties with Morris in the 8th and about 1/3 of the save situations, and Gomez taking the other 2/3 of the save situations. Sounds like their current bullpen coach's history as a player too.

He's 50> innings with 15.4 K/9 BUT 7.4 BB/9, yikes. BABIP is over .410. A+ hitters have learned to wait it out and he's obviously working from behind and they sit on FB and are having HOF success on FBs. Makes me question if the Twins don't like something in the make-up and/or maybe they're unsure he's "fixable". Who, knows, but I have no problems with this. Klein may be a AAAA SP or a middie, but Hill has A TON of reliever risk on top of being probably 3+ years away. 75% of the college arms the Twins have drafted are already ahead of him. Rojas had killer K material too.. but that control. Guess we didn't need two of the same make and model.

They could've done what I liked about their actual moves and cleared roster space at the same time from the sounds of it. The more I look things over there was absolutely no reason they couldn't have moved Jeffers and an OF, acquired the bullpen guys, and come away with another significant talent and be better prepared for both now and the future. I don't normally think teams could thread that needle, but it sure feels like it was out there for the Twins. chpettit19, SF Twins Fan, Hawkeye Bean Counter and 4 others 7

weitz41 Verified Member Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Hmm. Alot can go right or wrong here. Hoffman to this BP is a good get. A bit of an overpay but such is a deadline trade. The early trades ended up being the better trades value wise. The BP should be 4 deep on a normal day. To go from hopefully two deep to four isn't happening with your 18th round pick last year. Loosing Hill will hurt, no getting around it, IF the Twins make the playoffs, that's the price the Twins had to pay...To be 0-0 in October has some value as well. Cris E 1

Again, I'm not the owner/GM worried about attendance this year and early next...... Yep. Even as a fan, I’m not interested in management “proving” anything to me. I’m interested in them making smart moves that build a championship-caliber team, even if those moves are ‘controversial’, and especially if they take some intestinal fortitude and long-sight vision to make. This deadline had none of that. Not that I was expecting it. HarmonK03, Mike Sixel, Hunter4848 and 2 others 5

This deadline feels like a half measure. Admittedly I didn't want this course of action to begin with, and I don't have a problem with any of the trades necessarily (Kramer maybe....wtf?), but this didn't feel aggressive or significantly different to me. It's a team with too many DHs, too many catchers, too many corner outfielders, and not enough in the pitching staff for me to feel terribly excited. Again, fully admit it's probably my own bias but I'm underwhelmed at the end of the day. The lost opportunity costs weren't worth this. This it’s the very definition of a half measure. They tried to fix a problem they created themselves and end up with an even goofier roster than they started the season with. chpettit19, TheLeviathan, Hunter4848 and 1 other 3 1
