There is no Miguel Sano or Brian Buchanan in this group who's lack of athleticism is the root of their problems. This looks like a team full of Corey Koskie, Michael Cuddyer and Brian Dozier. They may not be able to play up the middle positions or steal 20 bases, but they can be taught how to play a position properly, avoid reckless outs on the basepaths and hit relatively consistently. I think we forget that Ron Gardenhire was the coach who worked with the young position players on fundamentals when Tom Kelly was fed up with the youth movement, and Paul Molitor went to every spring training to be an instructional coach for nearly two decades before he was named manager. Some managers are teachers, that's their thing and they're good at it. Like Joe Maddon and Craig Counsell. Some managers are.....I have no clue what Rocco Baldelli is actually. , but they can be taught how to play a position properly, avoid reckless outs on the basepaths and hit relatively consistently.-- ------Plouffe had a good response to development , they need to ALL be on the same page at every level and have coaches that all get on the same page , we have zero idea from Class a all the way up , it seems like no one has any control , look at all the high draft picks that we try to turn into what they have never done at hardly any levels , Sano was the funniest !!!! right field --- 99% of these guys have played certain spots all there life , its gotta start at the lowest rookie ball , and have a development program of alot of people , im sick of all the experimenting at the major league level!! But not being below average in foot speed doesn't mean you can't competently play corner spots, run the bases properly and hit consistently. Being fast doesn't have anything to do with these guys not playing fundamentally sound or consistent baseball. The lack of speed makes some difference, undeniable. Correa is slow but is still an adequate shortstop. Our corner outfielders (Larnach, Wallner) are pure DH's in the mold of late career Nelson Cruz when it comes to both fielding and base running. Brooks Lee could be a decent third baseman. He will never be avaerage elsewhere. He is slow too and a base clog. Lee can play fundamentally sound baseball when he is focused. Lewis is a concern on the bases at times due to past injuries. He is ok at third base. That leaves the team with one player right now. However, that guy is on the IL. Keirsey Jr. is going to play full time and he can field and run the bases. Julien will be back up. Martin too. I guess all I'm hoping for is that whomever plays, they run out everything at full sppeed and hustle all the time and hit the cutoff man on every single throw. Patzky 1

Part of the Rocco's greatness was in his first year with a veteran lineup (Bomba Squad) and having Nelson Cruz as a player-manager. I think Correa wants to be that player-manager type, but availability is still important not only to on-field performance, but how other players respect you as a teammate. Rocco just really had to manage a few day-to-day activities and some egos. That seems to be what he does best. He certainly doesn't do well in managing an unproven team that still needs instruction at the major-league level. Mike Sixel 1

For that matter I wonder what kind of prospect capital Falvey would be worth. I think it would be great for Falvey to get a fresh start in a new different organization? Maybe back to Cleveland? The Royals could use his expertise?? Just a couple of thoughts. Ha ha

Western SD Fan Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 I hope that this dumpster fire of a sale didn't scare off negotiations on a sale of the team. If you include lost revenues and goodwill, the Pohlads may have cost themselves $50-200M in value. All that to save no more than $20M in payroll. Now if they can manage to get Correa back to the Astros somehow, that would actually save some real coin and give an upcoming ownership group some flexibility. Blyleven2011 1
