For all of you certain that a new owner wouldn’t or couldn’t move the Twins, understand that Twins are mid to small market AND compete with Vikings, Wolves, Wild, Lynx, Gophers, and even their AAA team. I don’t think it’s a lock Twins stay here long term.

Yeah, my lack of enthusiasm isn't out of fear, it's due to the fact that we're still going to have a billionaire owner of a mid-market team either way; my franchise outlook is largely unchanged.

Ownership changes have tended to be different lately.  People with enough money buy it as a guaranteed value asset that allows them to play and have fun.

I've got around $100,000 that I can part with... Give a take a grand or two.

Maybe we can pool our money on Twinsdaily and raise the other 1.5 Billion.

Anybody In?

Sounds like the rest of us only need to come up with 1.4999 Billion if you're already in.

There was a stadium referendum that failed badly.  And Beaver wasn't "pro sports owner" rich, he was "minor league owner" rich.  The "Golden Triad" thing was not serious, it was the Pohlads holding the state hostage until they got their government handout for a new stadium.

Charlotte is like the 50th biggest market in the country.  The next owner of the Twins ain't moving there.

My point is, if the franchise is sold, there is no guarantee that it will remain in Minnesota. However  I don't want to argue that the Twins will move at all. Just saying it is a possibility. I  will just drop his subject for now and we'll all have to see how this plays out.  Friends?

Easy Peasy

John Bonnes alone could bring us close to home...

That's what I'm thinking... he could afford some if he did just a little less drinking.

I think my favorite thing about how the Twins operate is more like a family than business environment.

I don't find this to be true. Their actions always struck me as business owners operating based on a franchise typical for a medium size market. No commitment to an exceptional product but rather content at fielding average teams.

For those who don't fear the team being moved, look at the St. Louis Rams situation. Not exactly apples-to-apples, but the value of the vastly increased revue opportunity outweighed any possible legal ramifications.

If the team is sold, I hope the fist person terminated is the bloviating self-promoter, Dave St. Peter!

Great comment. Agree 100%. I hope we get an owner w/local ties of some sort. Mauer should put together a group. Great news and I hope it happens.

I call BS on "we decided to sell this summer." They decided to sell because of all the s**&^* they've taken over the last few months. I hope they're serious and not just using this as a way to get the fans off their backs. I also hope this doesn't become an excuse to do nothing over the winter and at next year's trade deadline. The excuse that someone paying over a billion dollars for a team would be upset at a few new two or three year contracts is not believable.

I'm in. We only need 14,998 more contributors to reach 1.5 Billion.

Yes, I completely agree, but what makes everybody think we'll get owners that do care? Local owners with other local businesses still have a vested interest in trying to keep a good reputation around here, even if it's just a token gesture.

Some hedge fund led group is ONLY going to answer to their investors.

Oh, I don't know? Maybe because they'll be paying somewhere between 2 and 3 billion dollars for this shiny toy. Only in Minnesota are fans worried about the almost unthinkable/impossible happening: an ownership group equally as bad as the current one. Be excited. This is literally better than winning a world series. I know, I was at both and this ranks right up there.

He could move the team. That's what everyone was so afraid of when he bought it. Just like people are irrationally afraid of right now.

This is GREAT news and I'm sorry some people can't celebrate this. We're getting rid of owners that have never cared about baseball.

Twins can be the Padres. Twins can be the Cardinals. Twins can be the Rockies...uh, scratch that last one. (except they're still a much better organization that the Twins).

OK, to be fair, Mrs. Pohlad apparently dearly loved the Twins. It was even mentioned prominently in her obituary, as well as in coverage of the WS wins. Let's not get too deep into hyperbole here.

I believe I called my shot on this issue here about a week ago....

I can't judge the announcement.  I need to see what interest there is and who is interested.  Right now I am ready to see the Pohlads go, but for a team that has a history of Calvin and the Pohlads (is that a cartoon series) I can only wait and see.  But some change had to happen.

What I am seeing however is that the Pohlads thought the bottom line was a better sales incentive than a winning team.

That's absolutely not true. Most fans of other pro sports clubs DO NOT like their local ownership groups. I know we like to think we are specially cursed here, but this isn't a Minnesota thing.

The people that moved to Florida to not pay taxes? Unlikely.

Yeah, but they have to live in Florida.... a punishment far worse than taxes

Actually it is the opposite.... they decided to sell at least a year ago if not longer when they started to slash cost in preparation for the sale....business 101...

I don't think you're understanding what they're saying.

The pohlads are objectively bad owners. And people here are scared of the sale because there is a small chance the new owner is somehow worse.

This is great news and anyone pretending it isn't is Debbie downer.

How is it a small chance? The Twins are currently 19th in payroll. You really think getting ownership similar to the 11 teams behind them is a small possibility? And that those fans all love their owners?

No one here is afraid. Expressing some caution isn’t fear. Wondering who might buy and will they be better isn’t fear. There is a lot on which to speculate. Most here I think are pleased with this news to varying degrees. Just because we aren’t all ‘yippee ki a-ing’ it up doesn’t mean we are unhappy and scared. Some also just want to wait and see who is interested and what they plan before we start dancing around like maniacs. As I said in an earlier post, I’m cautiously optimistic. But I also want to see it all play out before deciding just how good a thing this is or isn’t. I hope it’s very good, but just how good is a wait and see moment. We are at just different degrees.

You seem to be carrying a lot of water for the Pohlads so I won't try to convince you they're bad. You just stay with the belief that they're good actually and the Twins were lucky to have their stewardship for 4 decades.

Carl was really just looking out for us when he tried to contract the franchise after all.

Well this is specific exchange is off them misunderstanding someone else's comment, so makes sense.

Pohlads aren't good owners. No one here needs to do anything but roll their eyes when someone pretends they are actually decent.

You're kidding right? Read my first post, I don't care for the Pohlad's at all.

But thinking swapping out one billionaire owner of a mid-market baseball team for another billionaire is going to improve our payroll is wishful thinking.

Could happen, but the odds are against it.

Are they good? I’d say no. And I don’t think anyone is saying they are. Just because someone suggests there are worse out there … and there are, believe it or not … is not calling the Pohlads good. There is context and perspective. I’d say Reinsdorf is way worse, and so is the Pittsburgh owner. I think it’s fine to say I hope we don’t get someone like that. But that is not saying we are unhappy about the Pohlads selling nor is it saying I wish they wouldn’t. It’s conversation about what’s next and who might buy them.
