  1. He can learn outside the pressure of the big leagues, which is what MiLB is for. AAA is where learning on the fly is acceptable and shouldn’t damage a players confidence like the bright lights and scrutiny of MLB will. Once the confidence is gone, there isn't much hope. I agree with a possible trade, if the return is a usable arm. I don’t think Luke’s glove & arm can be fixed.
  2. I’m for sending Luke down to AAA to learn how to play defense. His defense is costing the team and his offense doesn’t override the errors and bad plays in the field. I like his demeanor; the hustle, attitude, want to win, etc. He wants to help the team win and he wants it badly. If they can get his defense to a point where he’s not costing games, then he’d be valuable. Twins have to refocus on pitching and defense if they want to be serious about being competitive. You can’t kick the ball around and expect the pitching to bail you out all the time. Thats a recipe for losing against good teams like the Dodgers.
  3. There is no pitching “surplus”. Sign Ryan to an extension or trade him this summer if they can’t sign him. Relying on Pablo coming back next year and being at ace level is not a good strategy. Who knows what Ober will be like when he comes back after elbow/forearm injury. I’m cautious about his short and long term outlook. I wouldn’t plan on him being relied on every fifth day going forward until he proves it. Festa’s injury timeline has been pushed back to late July. He had TOS surgery in the offseason and now the shoulder injury. I wouldn’t count on him in future plans as he may not even pitch in MLB let alone be back to his previous abilities. Rojas is also coming off injury, so let’s see how he pitches before we worry about where to fit him on the roster. In short, pitching is the most injury prone position in baseball. Don’t count on pitchers, and especially pitching prospects, until they prove they’re healthy and productive. Then you can write out the rotation and BP in pencil.
  4. Finally a prospect in the system that can actually play good defense at a premium position. Now don’t screw this up and start moving him all over the diamond in the name of “defensive versatility”. Twins need a couple more gold gloves in their lineup. Let’s see how he does in AA and AAA. Fingers crossed….
  5. Unrelated to Fedko, but I wonder if a trade for Arcia can be completed, given his DFA status. It would be great if they could swing a swap for a reliever with upside to help this bullpen. Maybe they tried to trade Arcia before going DFA route and couldn’t find a taker. Or Twins hope Arcia won’t be claimed and they can keep him at AAA. Hoping they can turn Arcia into something, but it may not be possible.
  6. I too like this promotion and the message it sends. Not only to the Twins roster but also AAA roster. If you play hard and produce, there’s a chance that you’ll be promoted. I hope this signals that Falvey era pre-determined promotions for select prospects is over. We’ve seen how that didn’t work, so glad to see the organization think differently. Maybe there is hope for GM Zoll.
  7. It should be clear now to Tom Pohlad, Twins FO, and the fans (including me), that this roster is not competitive. Time for the rebuild. Out with the old (Bell, Clemons, Arcia, Kreidler) in with the new (Sabato, Fedko, KC, others). No sense continuing with lopsided losses, unless they’re trying out the new players. I thought the SP could keep this team afloat, but the injuries and ineffectiveness is proving me wrong.
  8. Keaschall is the best example of the Falvey regime’s failures at player development. The idea of creating “positional versatility” with someone like Keaschall is almost criminal. When he can’t play one position at an average level, they shouldn’t move him around to butcher multiple positions. His glove is such a liability that it is going to limit his career. Rushing him to the big leagues when they knew his glove was this bad AND he was coming off a year of DH duty only, due to TJ surgery, is so short sighted and detrimental to the player. It’s almost comical that they thought they were contenders last season and they had to rush Keaschall to MLB to save the season. Twins should be built on defense and pitching. Instead the defense is a liability thanks to Falvey’s drafting and development, and his crazy idea that players have to move around the diamond. Time to develop players that can play one position at an excellent level before they are called up. If they’re sending him down to work on his defense, I’m all for it. Shelton can’t afford to put him in the field and his offense is never going to justify a DH role.
  9. I doubt Lewis is fixed. What a short sighted move. I read he has played two games at 1B and one at 2B, so now Twins think he’s ready to play those positions at MLB level? I watched last nights Saints game. Royce went 0-4 and did not look impressive. His feet/stance looked stable in the box compared to earlier this year, but he looks like he’s still trying to pull everything. I can see this turning out badly. I’ll hope for the best…..
  10. Good grief! Give him some more time to prove this streak is for real before even considering promotion. How many AAA teams and pitchers has he even played against? Remember that AAA series are SIX games. He’s probably faced only 2-3 teams so far. I don’t know who the “elite” AAA teams are, but wait until he’s faced those teams/pitchers before even considering a promotion. He also needs time to show he can play at least average defense at new positions to prove he won’t be a liability in the field. I don’t trust that he’s fixed his plate approach yet, so let him continue to hit for a while. As previous posters stated, promote Fedko and others that have sustained offense at AAA for a longer period of time. Sabato hit 3 homers in one game against LV, I think five in the series. So what, that didn’t get him a promotion either.
  11. I don’t know how two injured players that weren’t really playing that well in a very short sample could be ahead of Fedko. Not only does Fedko have last seasons track record, but also way more AB’s this season, so that has to give Fedko a leg up on those guys. They should make the move now instead of later. Outman is of no value and no one will take him off waivers anyway.
  12. We also need SP with Ober out and SWR gone. I see Morris is making the start today. I hope he does well and can stick in the rotation. They need him to take Obers spot. Hopefully Bradley comes around to earlier form as well. There isn’t much depth at AAA. Sounds like Sands can step into the BP spot vacated by Morris. BP has been good lately, so if Sands steps in and does well, they’re not relying on Lawrence to save the day.
  13. I’d like to see Sabato, Fedko, and Ross get a shot in the big leagues at some point this season. I understand that Bell has to stick around until trade deadline or thereabouts. Don’t want to sign a FA veteran and then move him early in the year. That would give Twins a bad reputation among players and their agents. But if he continues not contributing and Twins continue to lose games, this has to be the year to go all in with young guys to at least know what you have. Sell off the vets in July and DFA Outman. If the AAA guys continue to hit, let’s see them all get a shot!
  14. It would be great if the BP had a backend guy or two to move into set roles. I think that Orze, Banda, and Gomez are contenders for setup and closer roles. It does look like all three have performed well lately, so maybe they can step into those roles. If Sands comes back and is close to form, he gives them another high leverage arm. There doesn’t appear to be any help coming from AAA though, so that is concerning. Don’t know how Raya has pitched recently, but he seems like the only guy that could step up this season (if he can string together several good appearances).
  15. If he continues to mash at AAA for another month or so, bring him back and put him in the lineup to see if he’s fixed. If he is “fixed”, then worry about where to play him. Nice problem to have. If he’s not changed or is still zero sum offense, then at least they’ll know that he had every opportunity to prove himself. At that point a DFA would probably be the next step.
  16. Ok, Mr. Twins pessimist. I’m an optimist, so I’ll keep my hope for Lewis going. If it doesn’t happen, that’s baseball. A beautiful game of failure that fans and players somehow stay optimistic. Your Mets history should tell you that “you gotta believe”!
  17. Do fans and this writer really believe changing positions matters? If he regains his hitting with power profile, they’ll find a spot in the lineup for him. Especially the current powerless lineup. No one cares if they have to move Lee off 3B if Lewis can produce at the plate. Lewis doesn’t need more on his plate than getting his swing back to being a major league player. The chances of that happening are slim, so adding some more onto his plate is just unnecessary. I’m hoping that Royce can duplicate what Jordan Walker has done for St. Louis. After two demotions and two terrible seasons Walker righted the ship and is doing well this season. I agree, this is kicking him when he’s down kind of OP.
  18. Great pitching once again. The BP is coming around now, so there is hope for those guys as well. I thought Taylor Roger’s showed his veteran mettle. I was impressed with his outing and Gomez keeps pitching well under pressure. No one saw that coming. I can't see how Lee was called for interference. When he rolled over 2nd base, the throw was already on its way, so it didn’t affect the throw or play at all. Poor call on that one.
  19. Fedko had a 29-30 season last year, so he can be a pinch running option. He plays decent OF defense so I don’t see a big downside in giving him a shot. I agree to let Outman get some regular playing time now that Wallner is gone. Let’s see how it plays out with Outman and then give Fedko a chance. Based on the last couple seasons worth of stats, Outman isn’t going to blossom into an OF regular.
  20. One of the major problems of the Falvey era “player development” system is this issue. Players need to earn promotions, instead of it being pre-ordained. Guys like Fedko should get a chance based on performance at AAA instead of based on their draft position. Guys like Severino that led the minors in HR’s but never got a chance to play on the MLB team sends the wrong message. It should be if you work hard and perform, you have a chance of being promoted.
  21. There are still players that should be moved off the team ala Wallner & Lewis. Keaschall could really benefit from time at AAA. He was promoted way too quickly to try to save last season and he has suffered from it. He needs to either learn to play 2B or the outfield, but learn to play competent defense somewhere! I’m sure his hitting will come around at some point and his base running has value. If Keaschall is demoted, either stick with Clemons or one of Gray, Kreidler, or Arcia at 2B. Let KC play a full season at AAA to let his development happen and he can mature. They need to learn from the premature promotions of Lewis, Wallner, and Keaschall (among others). Don’t keep repeating past mistakes. I’d like to see Fedko and Sabato get a shot. With Clemons playing 2B, that would free up time at 1B. Larnach is another guy that is going to force a decision soon. He’s lost any power he had and really doesn’t deserve FT playing role in LF. Maybe Fedko could get a shot in LF to see what he can do. They need some pop in the lineup with Jeffers down, let Fedko & Sabato try to fill the void.
  22. I blame the previous GM for the failure of the Twins player development system. Lewis is just one example. Falvey was the POBO, thus he’s accepts the blame for the dismal results. As far as Lewis not accepting coaching that may be true. No one from outside the organization knows what is or was happening between Lewis and the coaches, including you.
  23. I’m thinking of two things regarding Lewis’s poor performance. For starters I think his swing was formatted by Falvey’s analytics into a pull everything for power swing. And the failure of the Twins player development system. Lewis doesn’t seem to recognize pitches and his mental approach doesn’t adapt to different PA as it should. It doesn’t look like he learns from AB to AB to what the pitcher is doing. Saints have new coaching staff so maybe Dinkelman and the new crew can turn him around. Finger’s crossed!
  24. Calling up Kreidler may be to platoon him with Gray at 3B if/when Lewis is demoted. Kreidler also plays SS and outfield so he can be plugged into multiple positions. Really disappointing to read Lewis’s comments about his dissatisfaction with the pressure to produce or be demoted. Sounds like he has an entitlement mentality because he was a 1/1 pick. I wonder if this mentality is holding him back and preventing him from listening to the coaches (specifically the hitting coach).
  25. Hate to see a player going through rough times, but this is long overdue. I don’t think Wallner’s swing will ever work in the big leagues, but he’s completely lost at the plate, so sending him down is the only thing to do at this point. Fedko should get a shot, but Falvey/Zoll traded for Kreidler so he gets the promotion.
