  1. We also need SP with Ober out and SWR gone. I see Morris is making the start today. I hope he does well and can stick in the rotation. They need him to take Obers spot. Hopefully Bradley comes around to earlier form as well. There isn’t much depth at AAA. Sounds like Sands can step into the BP spot vacated by Morris. BP has been good lately, so if Sands steps in and does well, they’re not relying on Lawrence to save the day.
  2. I’d like to see Sabato, Fedko, and Ross get a shot in the big leagues at some point this season. I understand that Bell has to stick around until trade deadline or thereabouts. Don’t want to sign a FA veteran and then move him early in the year. That would give Twins a bad reputation among players and their agents. But if he continues not contributing and Twins continue to lose games, this has to be the year to go all in with young guys to at least know what you have. Sell off the vets in July and DFA Outman. If the AAA guys continue to hit, let’s see them all get a shot!
  3. It would be great if the BP had a backend guy or two to move into set roles. I think that Orze, Banda, and Gomez are contenders for setup and closer roles. It does look like all three have performed well lately, so maybe they can step into those roles. If Sands comes back and is close to form, he gives them another high leverage arm. There doesn’t appear to be any help coming from AAA though, so that is concerning. Don’t know how Raya has pitched recently, but he seems like the only guy that could step up this season (if he can string together several good appearances).
  4. If he continues to mash at AAA for another month or so, bring him back and put him in the lineup to see if he’s fixed. If he is “fixed”, then worry about where to play him. Nice problem to have. If he’s not changed or is still zero sum offense, then at least they’ll know that he had every opportunity to prove himself. At that point a DFA would probably be the next step.
  5. Ok, Mr. Twins pessimist. I’m an optimist, so I’ll keep my hope for Lewis going. If it doesn’t happen, that’s baseball. A beautiful game of failure that fans and players somehow stay optimistic. Your Mets history should tell you that “you gotta believe”!
  6. Do fans and this writer really believe changing positions matters? If he regains his hitting with power profile, they’ll find a spot in the lineup for him. Especially the current powerless lineup. No one cares if they have to move Lee off 3B if Lewis can produce at the plate. Lewis doesn’t need more on his plate than getting his swing back to being a major league player. The chances of that happening are slim, so adding some more onto his plate is just unnecessary. I’m hoping that Royce can duplicate what Jordan Walker has done for St. Louis. After two demotions and two terrible seasons Walker righted the ship and is doing well this season. I agree, this is kicking him when he’s down kind of OP.
  7. Great pitching once again. The BP is coming around now, so there is hope for those guys as well. I thought Taylor Roger’s showed his veteran mettle. I was impressed with his outing and Gomez keeps pitching well under pressure. No one saw that coming. I can't see how Lee was called for interference. When he rolled over 2nd base, the throw was already on its way, so it didn’t affect the throw or play at all. Poor call on that one.
  8. Fedko had a 29-30 season last year, so he can be a pinch running option. He plays decent OF defense so I don’t see a big downside in giving him a shot. I agree to let Outman get some regular playing time now that Wallner is gone. Let’s see how it plays out with Outman and then give Fedko a chance. Based on the last couple seasons worth of stats, Outman isn’t going to blossom into an OF regular.
  9. One of the major problems of the Falvey era “player development” system is this issue. Players need to earn promotions, instead of it being pre-ordained. Guys like Fedko should get a chance based on performance at AAA instead of based on their draft position. Guys like Severino that led the minors in HR’s but never got a chance to play on the MLB team sends the wrong message. It should be if you work hard and perform, you have a chance of being promoted.
  10. There are still players that should be moved off the team ala Wallner & Lewis. Keaschall could really benefit from time at AAA. He was promoted way too quickly to try to save last season and he has suffered from it. He needs to either learn to play 2B or the outfield, but learn to play competent defense somewhere! I’m sure his hitting will come around at some point and his base running has value. If Keaschall is demoted, either stick with Clemons or one of Gray, Kreidler, or Arcia at 2B. Let KC play a full season at AAA to let his development happen and he can mature. They need to learn from the premature promotions of Lewis, Wallner, and Keaschall (among others). Don’t keep repeating past mistakes. I’d like to see Fedko and Sabato get a shot. With Clemons playing 2B, that would free up time at 1B. Larnach is another guy that is going to force a decision soon. He’s lost any power he had and really doesn’t deserve FT playing role in LF. Maybe Fedko could get a shot in LF to see what he can do. They need some pop in the lineup with Jeffers down, let Fedko & Sabato try to fill the void.
  11. I blame the previous GM for the failure of the Twins player development system. Lewis is just one example. Falvey was the POBO, thus he’s accepts the blame for the dismal results. As far as Lewis not accepting coaching that may be true. No one from outside the organization knows what is or was happening between Lewis and the coaches, including you.
  12. I’m thinking of two things regarding Lewis’s poor performance. For starters I think his swing was formatted by Falvey’s analytics into a pull everything for power swing. And the failure of the Twins player development system. Lewis doesn’t seem to recognize pitches and his mental approach doesn’t adapt to different PA as it should. It doesn’t look like he learns from AB to AB to what the pitcher is doing. Saints have new coaching staff so maybe Dinkelman and the new crew can turn him around. Finger’s crossed!
  13. Calling up Kreidler may be to platoon him with Gray at 3B if/when Lewis is demoted. Kreidler also plays SS and outfield so he can be plugged into multiple positions. Really disappointing to read Lewis’s comments about his dissatisfaction with the pressure to produce or be demoted. Sounds like he has an entitlement mentality because he was a 1/1 pick. I wonder if this mentality is holding him back and preventing him from listening to the coaches (specifically the hitting coach).
  14. Hate to see a player going through rough times, but this is long overdue. I don’t think Wallner’s swing will ever work in the big leagues, but he’s completely lost at the plate, so sending him down is the only thing to do at this point. Fedko should get a shot, but Falvey/Zoll traded for Kreidler so he gets the promotion.
  15. Wait, you mean a pitcher can survive facing the opposing lineup two or (gasp) three times! Someone call Rocco and Falvey to let them know it is possible. Loved listening to Molitors’s comments about Jeffers being able to get in a groove at the plate due to being in the lineup more often vs. sitting every other game during Rocco/Falvey. A catcher can play 2/3 of games and won’t explode! Add that to the list of dumb rules Rocco forced onto the team. And the double steal….. So nice to watch a game with Shelton managing.
  16. The hype machine still exists! How many times do we get fooled before we learn? I’m not saying KC won’t be a good or maybe even great SS/player, but to anoint him the heir apparent after SSS is a bit much. Since this analysis is solely stat based, there must be analysis on how much to discount AAA numbers vs. MLB. Is there a 10, 15, 20% or more drop-off between AAA and MLB? Let’s revisit KC’s performance in late July to see if he can breakout in AAA as the author suggests.
  17. Great team, great season. Mayo Smith was the manager in 1968, not Sparky. He was not an MLB manager yet in 1968. Anderson managed Detroit starting in 1979 through 1995. I remember him more for him managing the “the Big Red machine” teams to two WS wins in 1975 and 1976. He did guide the Tigers to WS wins in 1984.
  18. Wallner is not a big league hitter, I don’t care what the stats say. He can hit his bombs against a bad pitcher, but he’s a strikeout machine against good or great pitching. We were told that he worked on minimizing his exaggerated batting stance and movements during the offseason. He looks the same at the plate to me. On top of terrible swing, he seems to me to guess at the plate a lot. I don’t think he picks up spin or recognizes pitches. Combine that with his huge swing to come to the conclusion that he is nothing more than Sano 2.0. Sano had better swing, he just refused to try to put the ball in play and instead wanted to hit home runs every AB. As another poster said, Wallner isn’t a prospect anymore so it’s time he starts producing. I’d give him another month or so, then it will be obvious to all that he’s not going to be a consistent hitter. He’s just a K in the lineup, wherever you put him. Let’s see what Roden can do when he’s healthy. Should give ERod a full season, or close to it, in St. Paul before promoting him.
  19. Great play by Larnach AND Lee to get the out at home. Two perfect throws. Nice to see good defense on that play. I can’t blame Wallner on that blooper in front of him. Keep in mind the OF defense was playing deep to prevent doubles late in a tie game. This loss was on the offense, or lack of. Sometimes you have to tip your cap to the other team for good pitching performance and move on. Future is bright for Prielipp (with better command) and Rojas. It was a competitive game so fun to watch. Mets fans must be ecstatic that their multi-million dollar team finally broke out of their losing streak. I can’t imagine what the Mets fan base has been saying about that organization! Here’s a stat for analytics people: no team has made the playoffs after enduring a 12-game losing streak. Good thing Cohen is spending $300M on payroll!
  20. This was predictable going into the season. Lee is not a SS, we knew Keaschall’s defense was suspect (based on SSS from last year), and we knew that the bullpen was going to be a struggle. Bad defense was a problem last season and nothing was done to improve. It may be time to play Kreidler or Arcia at SS, but then what to do with Lee? Lee is the interim SS until Culpepper is ready to step in, but I’ve heard his defense isn’t great either. Next man up is Houston, but he’s a long way off, if he can prove he can hit. Im not a fan of Martin, but he has improved at the plate. Too many mental errors in LF and on the bases IMO. He just doesn’t have high baseball IQ. Im sure they’ll stick with status quo until the season is lost, then go with the young guys. Hopefully that happens mid-season to give the young guys enough time to be ready for 2027, but even that timeline would be extremely optimistic. It’s going be a long rebuild process before the Twins are contenders again.
  21. The AB’s look more competitive overall. Not too many times do you see Twins hitters getting themselves out. It looks like they’re taking more pitches outside the zone, being patient, and making more contact during this winning streak. They look more confident at the plate instead of over their heads. I think that confidence comes from the success they’ve had. We’ll see if they can maintain the confidence when they go through a slump. Love the aggressive baserunning. I’ve seen attempts at bunting and hit-run! I think Shelton keeps them focused on advancing runners and keeping the line moving. Fun to watch! If they can keep winning despite the BP and poor defense remains to be seen….
  22. Lee needs to go to AAA to rebuild his confidence at the plate and in the field. He looks completely lost at the plate and it’s affecting his play in the field. Too early for Culpepper, he needs more AAA AB’s under his belt before he is rushed to MLB. Lee had <200 AAA AB’s before being promoted. I think he was promoted too quickly and that is a problem of the current player development system. Don’t repeat the mistake with Culpepper! Arcia was signed for this and bats RH. Between him and Gray they can handle SS and other infield spot starts. Would need to move someone off the 40 man roster. Hey, you’re out man.
  23. The good news is front office is being overhauled. They need to overhaul the player development part of the organization so they can turn prospects into MLB players.
  24. Looks like Roger’s is on the downward slide to end of his career, so this signing doesn’t do anything other than add an arm to the BP. Hoping he won’t add too much gas to the fire when he’s called into games. We’ll see how long he stays on the roster this season, but it doesn’t look good based on his numbers. I’ve not lost hope for the 2026 BP. I think Preillep, or Matthews, or one of the others starters could slide into a late inning, high leverage role and do well.
  25. Dodgers claimed him off waivers and stashed him on their AAA roster. I’m not saying Fitzgerald is a quality big leaguer, but if he’s good enough to be infield depth for the WS champions, I think he could serve the same role for the Twins. They could have kept Fitz at no cost and devoted their limited resources to somewhere else on the roster. Wasting their time and energy dabbling on the margins when they should be working on major flaws.
