Calling up Kreidler may be to platoon him with Gray at 3B if/when Lewis is demoted. Kreidler also plays SS and outfield so he can be plugged into multiple positions. Really disappointing to read Lewis’s comments about his dissatisfaction with the pressure to produce or be demoted. Sounds like he has an entitlement mentality because he was a 1/1 pick. I wonder if this mentality is holding him back and preventing him from listening to the coaches (specifically the hitting coach).

Hate to see a player going through rough times, but this is long overdue. I don’t think Wallner’s swing will ever work in the big leagues, but he’s completely lost at the plate, so sending him down is the only thing to do at this point. Fedko should get a shot, but Falvey/Zoll traded for Kreidler so he gets the promotion.

Wait, you mean a pitcher can survive facing the opposing lineup two or (gasp) three times! Someone call Rocco and Falvey to let them know it is possible. Loved listening to Molitors’s comments about Jeffers being able to get in a groove at the plate due to being in the lineup more often vs. sitting every other game during Rocco/Falvey. A catcher can play 2/3 of games and won’t explode! Add that to the list of dumb rules Rocco forced onto the team. And the double steal….. So nice to watch a game with Shelton managing.

The hype machine still exists! How many times do we get fooled before we learn? I’m not saying KC won’t be a good or maybe even great SS/player, but to anoint him the heir apparent after SSS is a bit much. Since this analysis is solely stat based, there must be analysis on how much to discount AAA numbers vs. MLB. Is there a 10, 15, 20% or more drop-off between AAA and MLB? Let’s revisit KC’s performance in late July to see if he can breakout in AAA as the author suggests.

Great team, great season. Mayo Smith was the manager in 1968, not Sparky. He was not an MLB manager yet in 1968. Anderson managed Detroit starting in 1979 through 1995. I remember him more for him managing the “the Big Red machine” teams to two WS wins in 1975 and 1976. He did guide the Tigers to WS wins in 1984.

Mets 3, Twins 2: A Fun Night, a Tough Loss
1985Fan replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wallner is not a big league hitter, I don’t care what the stats say. He can hit his bombs against a bad pitcher, but he’s a strikeout machine against good or great pitching. We were told that he worked on minimizing his exaggerated batting stance and movements during the offseason. He looks the same at the plate to me. On top of terrible swing, he seems to me to guess at the plate a lot. I don’t think he picks up spin or recognizes pitches. Combine that with his huge swing to come to the conclusion that he is nothing more than Sano 2.0. Sano had better swing, he just refused to try to put the ball in play and instead wanted to hit home runs every AB. As another poster said, Wallner isn’t a prospect anymore so it’s time he starts producing. I’d give him another month or so, then it will be obvious to all that he’s not going to be a consistent hitter. He’s just a K in the lineup, wherever you put him. Let’s see what Roden can do when he’s healthy. Should give ERod a full season, or close to it, in St. Paul before promoting him.- 68 replies

Mets 3, Twins 2: A Fun Night, a Tough Loss
1985Fan replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great play by Larnach AND Lee to get the out at home. Two perfect throws. Nice to see good defense on that play. I can’t blame Wallner on that blooper in front of him. Keep in mind the OF defense was playing deep to prevent doubles late in a tie game. This loss was on the offense, or lack of. Sometimes you have to tip your cap to the other team for good pitching performance and move on. Future is bright for Prielipp (with better command) and Rojas. It was a competitive game so fun to watch. Mets fans must be ecstatic that their multi-million dollar team finally broke out of their losing streak. I can’t imagine what the Mets fan base has been saying about that organization! Here’s a stat for analytics people: no team has made the playoffs after enduring a 12-game losing streak. Good thing Cohen is spending $300M on payroll!- 68 replies

This was predictable going into the season. Lee is not a SS, we knew Keaschall’s defense was suspect (based on SSS from last year), and we knew that the bullpen was going to be a struggle. Bad defense was a problem last season and nothing was done to improve. It may be time to play Kreidler or Arcia at SS, but then what to do with Lee? Lee is the interim SS until Culpepper is ready to step in, but I’ve heard his defense isn’t great either. Next man up is Houston, but he’s a long way off, if he can prove he can hit. Im not a fan of Martin, but he has improved at the plate. Too many mental errors in LF and on the bases IMO. He just doesn’t have high baseball IQ. Im sure they’ll stick with status quo until the season is lost, then go with the young guys. Hopefully that happens mid-season to give the young guys enough time to be ready for 2027, but even that timeline would be extremely optimistic. It’s going be a long rebuild process before the Twins are contenders again.

Twins 13, Red Sox 6: This Team is Hot
1985Fan replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The AB’s look more competitive overall. Not too many times do you see Twins hitters getting themselves out. It looks like they’re taking more pitches outside the zone, being patient, and making more contact during this winning streak. They look more confident at the plate instead of over their heads. I think that confidence comes from the success they’ve had. We’ll see if they can maintain the confidence when they go through a slump. Love the aggressive baserunning. I’ve seen attempts at bunting and hit-run! I think Shelton keeps them focused on advancing runners and keeping the line moving. Fun to watch! If they can keep winning despite the BP and poor defense remains to be seen…. -
Lee needs to go to AAA to rebuild his confidence at the plate and in the field. He looks completely lost at the plate and it’s affecting his play in the field. Too early for Culpepper, he needs more AAA AB’s under his belt before he is rushed to MLB. Lee had <200 AAA AB’s before being promoted. I think he was promoted too quickly and that is a problem of the current player development system. Don’t repeat the mistake with Culpepper! Arcia was signed for this and bats RH. Between him and Gray they can handle SS and other infield spot starts. Would need to move someone off the 40 man roster. Hey, you’re out man.

The good news is front office is being overhauled. They need to overhaul the player development part of the organization so they can turn prospects into MLB players.

Looks like Roger’s is on the downward slide to end of his career, so this signing doesn’t do anything other than add an arm to the BP. Hoping he won’t add too much gas to the fire when he’s called into games. We’ll see how long he stays on the roster this season, but it doesn’t look good based on his numbers. I’ve not lost hope for the 2026 BP. I think Preillep, or Matthews, or one of the others starters could slide into a late inning, high leverage role and do well.
-
Dodgers claimed him off waivers and stashed him on their AAA roster. I’m not saying Fitzgerald is a quality big leaguer, but if he’s good enough to be infield depth for the WS champions, I think he could serve the same role for the Twins. They could have kept Fitz at no cost and devoted their limited resources to somewhere else on the roster. Wasting their time and energy dabbling on the margins when they should be working on major flaws.
-
With Arcia and Brujan already on the roster, why even make this move? Brujan was just DFA’d to make room for Gray. Falvey keeps Julien on the roster, so I expect to see him get AB’s this year (since he was outstanding last season). Not sure why Fitzgerald was released, but after the Dodgers picked him up off waivers, they passed him through waivers and he’s been assigned to their AAA. They must like him as SS depth (I did too). A lot of noise for no apparent reason.

Great piece that generates lots of thought about what could be, both short and long term. I’m hopeful that the highly touted prospects are able to advance and succeed at the MLB level. I also see that much of the value on this list is generated from their trade value. Thats a problem for this FO since they don’t trade their top rated prospects. As others have pointed out here, this FO track record for players development is poor at best. As far as recent Twins player development under this FO, I can’t recall any prospects that have turned into all-stars. Joe Ryan was developed by the Rays, so outside of him, I can’t think of any. I put a lot more value on young guys with MLB experience. Guys like SWR, Bradley, Abel, Keaschall, and Lee. They’ve shown there is talent there, with flashes of all-star level talent. They should be higher than prospects that haven’t reached MLB yet. I get the thought behind these rankings, but a bird in hand is worth two in the bush (or something like that).

I can’t understand how people view Wallner as a productive hitter. If you watched him last season, you could see he was overmatched on most ABs. He looked completely lost. Way too many short ABs, he was an easy out, if not an automatic out, for most of the season. I don’t see how that changes with his swing. He has the longest, most awkward swing of any recent Twins player I can remember. With that leg kick and movement from open to closed stance, I don’t know how he can expect to hit an inside fastball. He should be fighting for a roster spot as a DH. I would have him starting in AAA working on a new swing.

Good grief! Falvey can’t find a glove first SS option that actually has a good glove! They cut loose Fitzgerald to add Arcia. I don’t understand the logic. Falvey is betting on Culpepper or bust as long term SS. Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket! With his track record of developing first round picks into MLB players, we’re in for tough times.
-
I have doubts that the BP is beneficial to a guy like Festa. BP arms need to be available on short rest and he couldn’t handle pitching short innings on standard rest. He should start the season in AAA to build strength and see if the surgery cured his health issues. TOS surgery doesn’t have a a track record of success, so counting on him to step into a BP role is not smart IMO. I know he was diagnosed with the lesser version of TOS, but it’s still going to 50-50 if he can regain his form.

Should the Twins Deal from Their Rotation Depth?
1985Fan replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like the idea of trading for Soderstrom from the A’s. They need pitching, so that may motivate them to move a key player like Soderstrom. He’s blocked at 1B and catcher by two key players, so he makes sense as a trade candidate. DeVries would also be a great get and is also blocked. Both would be clear upgrades to the roster and could slot in as starters, which would push Bell to DH only. Both are young and Soderstrom has positional flexibility. I agree that the Twins need talent on the position player side of the roster. The players they have now aren’t MLB ready players and probably wouldn’t be starters on a contending team. Buxton, Jeffers, and Keaschall are the exceptions. To get a player like Soderstrom, Twins would have to give up a good pitcher and probably some prospects. Not sure exactly what it would take, but hopefully Ryan and prospect or two would be enough. Adding in DeVries give the Twins insurance at SS in case Culpepper takes longer, is injured, or doesn’t pan out. Adding him adds significant costs to trade, but could be worth it. I’d prefer Twins trade from their supposedly top rated farm system, but trading Ryan now makes sense. But that assumes Twins/Falvey are serious about contending. I don’t think they are, they’re just trying to sell tickets. -
Glad he’s gone. I think he was just a puppet for the family, but he was clearly out of his element. I hope this means that the family realizes who’s really at fault for this roster and that Falvey is on a very short leash. I think Joe was too gullible and fell under Falvey’s spell. Falvey needs someone to challenge his baseball decisions and hold him accountable. Twins payroll was often the highest in the ALC, which coincided with not making the playoffs. As another poster has already said; Falvey needs to be relieved of his duties on the business side. Stick to baseball operations, even though he’s a failure on that side of things as well.
-
Just another dumb signing by Falvey. If Josh Bell is the middle of the order bat “with thump” they sign, it’s another indicator that Falvey is clueless and should be out the door. If they really wanted a 1B bat with thump, should’ve signed O’Hearn. But Falvey is more concerned with trying to squeeze incremental value out of players to prove how smart he is than actually winning. He thinks putting Bell in the middle of this lineup is competing? Hilarious. I’d rather watch Sabato, or Larnach, or Wallner given a shot at 1B. Bell is bad defensively, can’t hit in cold weather, and has no future with the Twins. Perfect match for Falvey. Now that they’re stuck with him for a while, he should be DH only. This team didn’t need to get worse defensively!
-
Thats surprising given his finish to the season. If that’s correct and baseball GM’s feel the same way, then I’m all in to trade him. If I’m a GM, he’s not worth more than Lopez. Ober for Lawler would be a great trade.
