Harry has been a representative milb player this year.

Well, Falvey put together the team he wanted last winter and it is a good squad. The dynamics of deals didn't look good for our guys, so they just sat it out.

Now it is time for the players on hand to step forward and play some baseball. Players like Festa and Dobnak get their chance. Players like Miranda, Jeffers, Larnach, Wallner, Martin, and Lewis get to prove their worth. Vets like Vazquez, Santana, Correa, Buxton, Margot, and Kepler need to lead through their play. Castro needs to continue his Twins MVP season. No time for excuses, the Twins have enough to win.

Available yes, but not at "reasonable prices". So far KIkuchi cost the Astros their #2 prospect who may go right into the Blue Jays rotation, and their #9 prospect. That's like us trading Walter Jenkins or Emma AND Charlee Soto or CJ Culpepper. Two guys who haven't even pitched this year due to injury - Paul Blackburn and Alex Cobb - went for  top 30 guys in the Mets and Guardians systems. Trevor Rogers fetched a top 100 prospect in AAA and another AAA guy who is in the Orioles top 25. I'd like to get a quality starter too, but the prices have been high.

Not the same system. Twins system is much better. Apples and oranges. Same 50 grade as gabby Gonzalez. Would’ve liked kikuchi more than the richards.

Yep! Time for guys to get healthy and step up! It’s gonna come down to the wire!

Honestly, the ownership is one of the worst in professional sports. This self imposed salary penalty they've placed on themselves right when they're ready to make waves has completely hamstrung the team. I hope Carlos chews them out.

To cope with my frustration I'm going to the Mets game tonight, in full Mets gear.

Per Fangraphs, Houston gave up a 50 FV player and a 45 FV, plus a throw in, which is definitely a significant price for Kikuchi unless you're convinced that for the first time in his career, he'll actually be good rather than just seeming like he should be good.

Ownership cutting payroll had two impacts here - first limiting the options, but also they have made it extremely problematic to trade away prospects, because going forward even mediocre free agents are too expensive.

I don't expect the Twins to give up significant prospect capital in any deals going forward, unless they swap one cheap player for another for positional reasons.

Very unlikely for this to ever look like a truly bad trade given the low price.

Richards seems like another reliever who walks too many while giving up too many homeruns.  Same problem Okert has.  Obviously neither of those traits are ever good, but I'd say it's especially undesirable in a playoff setting.

I think the question here is whether this guy is better than the current back end of the bullpen. In other words, is he better than Okert or Staumont? Frankly, he may be better than both of them and looks to be better than Okert or Funderburk. I would include Theilbar in that last sentence but I have a feeling he's getting better and may be back to something approximating his old self through the stretch.

This guy is probably a small upgrade to the soft underbelly of the bullpen. Better than nothing, but only marginally better.

I agree this improves the under belly of the bullpen. That is useful in a season but not in playoffs.

This move doesn’t help us win playoff games.

I hope they tried to get playoff caliber additions for this team and are ultimately correct in the valuations of our minor league stock. From the outside it looks like trading is out of this FOs element. A lot of waiting for the market to come to them.

Disappointed in the lack of urgency to bring home a championship with the current window. Very sour on ownership.

but let’s go twins and prove this whole non existent deadline strategy correct and win a WS.

The plus side is that the Guards and Royals shipped out alot of prospects while we gave away essentially none.

This is one of my favorite Twins rosters in my life time. Besides not having a solid lefty reliever, the roster is setup for a decent playoff run. 3 borderline(ish) game 1 starters and a mash up 4th game of SWR/Varland/Festa can carry you a decent ways.

I'll save my Ownership rage if/when they cut payroll again next year after another solid playoff run.

Here is some interesting news. The Orioles just designated call Ervin for assignment. Remember him? He was part of what we traded to get Jorge Lopez in that ill-fated trade a couple seasons ago. He has been in the Orioles rotation and is 6-5 with a 485 ERA, 4.48 FIP. There you have to run him through waivers. Wonder if he is worth a call to see if the Twins can trade for him for a non-40 man lottery ticket.

Huh?

It's Cole, BTW

Are we sure that this isn’t the twilight zone? Or we got trapped in some weird time continuum? Where it’s 2006 and Carl Pohlad still runs the team? Terry Ryan and Bill Smith are still hoarding prospects instead of trying to go all in? The Twins still play in the Metrodome and have self imposed money constraints? Where we have a team that’s on the verge with a few star players in their prime? Let me finish this story for all the twins fans. The players get old and leave in free agency. We trade away one for a bunch of promising young players that don’t live up to expectations. The final nail is the prospects that get hoarded for the next “wave”. They either flame out and never produce a single star player and 5 years later the franchise goes into the dumps only to start again 5 years later. Same story. Different Regime. Same family of owners. The End.

Cole was never property of Minnesota.

I think you're confusing Cole Irvin with Cade Povich.

Is this Joe Pohlad?

Flaherty.

Went for a song.

In fairness to me, that was before the Flaherty move.  I said in another thread it seemed quite cheap, but a song relative to everything else is not an exaggeration.

Probably the only guy that went, that I would have liked to have at cost, that money was possibly a factor on. Detroit had no motivation to pick up salary.

You're right. I had the wrong guy. Too bad.  Still, Cole Irvin is left-handed, breathing, and has an ERA under 5 with some starting pitching cred to his name. Who knows, might be worth a look?

I remember when Staumont, Jackson and Okert were brought in to create the best bullpen in baseball.

Whoops.

Those three grouped with Thielbar (who was going to never age and go off the cliff) and Stewart (who, despite clearing a whopping 30 innings once since 2016 was going to be the picture of health going forward) was supposed to be the cat's pajamas.

The offseason was a much simpler time.

I'm sure they will, but I wouldn't. Baltimore, themselves desperate for pitching after losing Means, Wells, and Bradish, let him walk for nothing. I thought maybe as a bullpen guy, but his splits there this year are even worse.
