He has had his flaws and mistakes, just like every GM in sports history. But I liked what he did prior to the 2025 season. I thought he assembled a pretty respectable pitching staff during his time. But I believe he deserves a little leeway with how the payroll was handled by ownership. Ownership slashing payroll after that playoff win put him in an incredibly difficult spot after paying Correa and Pablo.

I was a big Favlvey supporter, but him getting rid of King Varland was a mistake. Maybe the return will be good in the long run but you need a guy like him in your bullpen to shut things down. At some point we just need to throw Festa, Matthews, Rojas, Klein, SWR/Prielipp (Maybe) into the bullpen and just ride it out. I like Sands and Orze, Morris could be solid in a 1-2 inning role, but we need real bodies in there and maybe we could get something cooking late in the year and have some real fun next season.

Mariners 7, Twins 1: A Game of Two Bullpens
Colbeh replied to Cory Moen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In his defense he is currently one of the unluckiest hitters in the MLB right now with a BABIP of .234, while his average and most of the league is around. 290-310. Which also explains his gap of .211 BA and an expected BA of .255. Its not great but hes due positive regression. Hes a solid backup catcher/first basement -
Twins 13, Red Sox 6: This Team is Hot
Colbeh replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Those first two innings were nuts! This is a fun team to watch right now and should get more exciting as Prielipp, Festa, Matthews, Culpepper, Emma and possibly GG/Jenkins join the big squad. -
+1 on the Royals and +4.5 on the Blood Sox. Just gotta make it to the playoffs and see what happens. I always like to believe that its a 50/50 shot to win those whether you're the top playoff team or the bottom. This team can be streaky but it needs some playoff experience (and $$) for the future.

Tough loss. Ice cold offense. Burnt bullpen. But man are we spoiled with a healthy starting staff next year. Lopez, Ober, Ryan, SWR, Festa, Matthews and possibly Morris. Let Varland and Paddack do damage in the bullpen with Jax, Duran, Sands, and Alcala(?). Hope for a healthy return of Topa/Stewart and see what Winder has in him the rest of the year. Just need that coveted lefty. Also saying this, praying that ownership doesn't slash payroll to Pirate's standards.

The Writing Seems To Be on the Wall for Alex Kirilloff
Colbeh replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No one but the front office knows what feelings they have towards AK right now. I can see a scenario where they are writting him off this year, keeping that option year open, and giving him one last shot next season. Thats only if they are not truly bugged out by his hidden injury and he wants to be here. AK has played 4 big league seasons under 90 games while a decent junk of those have been playing through injuries. He's talented and a gamer. There's still a chance he can provide value to a playoff caliber team. Age 26 - .248 BA / .309 OBP / .721 OPS -
Reviewing the Jorge Polanco Trade
Colbeh replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It has been proven in spades? Thats just based on your opinion which is leaving meat on the bone. Assuming you're just referring to the Twins not being better in 2024. Subtracting Polanco for a youth movement of Julien, Lee, Martin, and giving more chances to Castro has helped quite a bit. The money saved from his contract and an extra roster spot offensively is what brought in Santana which has been a really good investment given his defense, offense and experience.- 63 replies

Almost every prospect struggles. Im not saying they are locked in MLB caliber players. Just that they have potential to be, more so Gonzalez though.- 45 replies

Guardians 2, Twins 1: Cleveland Wins it Quickly
Colbeh replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We saved cap space to sign Santana, 2 more years of Topa, and 2 young prospects with potential (more so for Gonzalez, but Bowen may be a solid RP)- 45 replies

Ryan's injury sucks eggs but now is the time to have faith in the pitching pipeline. Time to see what we really have in SWR, Festa, Varland, and Zebby come late September/October. Clinching the division or winning a playoff series would be a huge boost for next season.

Twins Daily Pitcher of the Month: July 2024
Colbeh replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I've been wondering (hoping) if Josh Winder would go down the Griffin Jax route, can't say i ever considered it would be Cole Sands. Happy to see him succeeding in a bullpen role!- 7 replies

The point was that the Tigers/White Sox wanted one of our top 3 prospects for a 2 month rental. Also, I said I doubt the Tigers would allow the Twins to match the Dodgers offer. If the Twins and Dodgers offered the same exact value of a trade, why would they accept ours? Thats where the in-division tax comes into play.
-
If you have the Athletic, then Dan Hayes was the first to mention that. It's also an in division trade and I doubt the Tigers would allow the Twins to match their offer. If the Yankees would have won that trade then there's a possibility we could have traded for Nestor Cortes. Maybe Flaherty's medical scared some people off.
-
Which is why hoarding prospects and letting them gain a little more value this year is more important than paying a premium at the trade deadline. If they're cutting payroll and ownership wants to still contend next year, then we're going to have to package up some players. Getting a rental 4th starter and lefty reliever isn't worth the hefty price tag when those same players plus a little extra can get us a controllable starter with better upside this offseason.
-
I still like next year as the year to start pushing all the chips in. We'll enter the off-season with 6-7 top 100 prospects and hopefully better clarify on payroll (could also be reduced again). We'll have Lopez, Ober, and Ryan as our big 3. Now we find out what have in SWR, Festa, Varland, Matthews, and Paddack (I have confidence in him next year with a rested arm). We can shop around in the off-season and pay less of a premium on a solid controllable starter. The Twins future is bright and we have alot of controllable big leaguers and a ton of promising prospects. FO has done a hell of a job the past few years!
-
The plus side is that the Guards and Royals shipped out alot of prospects while we gave away essentially none. This is one of my favorite Twins rosters in my life time. Besides not having a solid lefty reliever, the roster is setup for a decent playoff run. 3 borderline(ish) game 1 starters and a mash up 4th game of SWR/Varland/Festa can carry you a decent ways. I'll save my Ownership rage if/when they cut payroll again next year after another solid playoff run.
