A guide to complaining about the Twins

The Dodgers just came and put us in our place.  Now it feels like its time to be a real Twins Fan - that is we are frustrated and can moan and complain.  Just in case you are new to this here are some complaining points that you can start to test:

  1. Rocco - why do we need to rest our star after 5 days?
  2. Rocco - did you know starting pitchers are allowed to go more than 4 innings?
  3. Sano - it you are going to strike out 9 times in 19 ABs you should consider getting a hit too.
  4. Is Kiriloff going to be our new all world injured star now - does that mean Buxton can quit getting injured?
  5. We know that Wes Johnson is a magician, but maybe we should get some rabbits that have not fallen out of the hat so he can work with some real talent on the pitching staff.
  6. Trading Taylor Rogers for Paddack - Rogers has saved three games as I write this and the Twins have won 2
  7. Is there a reason that Moran, Cano, and Mason can't be called up but rejects from other teams can be on our relief staff?
  8. Did you know that the Twins played in terrible weather, but the Dodgers did not?
  9. Playing the Dodgers felt like we were extended our playoff record
  10. Fill in the Blank

1. I'm beginning to believe all Twins players have leukemia. That's why they need lots of rest. Or maybe carrying around all those heavy wallets wears them out.

2. Rocco can only count to 4, except on those days he feels bold and daring, then he might go to 5.

3. Sano is the anchor of this line-up; you know like the rock around our necks. He's worth his weight in baseballs.

7. The Twins are like the Statue of Liberty when it comes to baseball pitchers; send us your poor and downtrodden.

There, I feel much better. Play ball!

You just about covered everything  Mike but I'll add

1 . It's not that he can't count to 5 , it's because he's sleeping standing up by the 4th ...

2. I like the manager and Front office  , I just don't like the 3 of them managing their game plan and won't deviate from it ,,,,

I just found the latest MLB team values on Axios.com

I prefer to complain about the un-level playing field we are on.

Especially as the annual payroll relates to a starting pitching staff. How do we compete with a team like the Dodgers?

Latest team values; Dodgers #3 at 4.9B / Twins #19 at 1.6B

I expect it doesn't take a genus to build a staff with an extra 100M annually to work with in an organization worth 3X ours.

This is why we take a flyer on a Paddock in trade for a proven all-star like Rogers. We need to make our own #1 starters, we cannot afford to buy them. Not disparaging LA - they do both. We don't do either. There, I complained about us.

Great list - I will throw in a few more

1a) Does the team take fielding practice or are they resting then as well?

1b) Does the team focus on situational batting practice?

1c) Are the coaches coaching or the players listening - where is any developmental improvement?  We seem to see the same mistakes over and over

2) You employ a strategy of starters going limited innings yet the bullpen is stacked with castoffs, duct tape and wire.  Well I guess so are the starters.   No significant bullpen signings to anchor the group.

So far no response from the opposition. I will only add that there are 15 games left in April and if they don't go at least 7-8 after a 2-4 start (is that modest enough?) there will be a few more items to add to the list. Maybe going to Fenway will help.

These should be memorized and modified as needed for any applicable series in the future.  There will be a quiz and it'll be in the form of future butt whoopin put upon this team later this season.  Consider yourself warned! :)

No. Why would I be sarcastic?

You can, just be sure to use the appropriate font.

I don't seem to have access to that. Not gonna complain though

You might have to unlock it like the badges and achievements on this site.  Something to aspire for!

You know he can count higher than 4, he uses more pitchers than that daily.

That is true, but when it is a starter he forgets that the thumb is a finger too.

#10. Rocco has learned nothing from last year. He's doing the same thing, making the same mistakes, mismanaging a team that has little to no room for error. Resting any one of your regulars the day before a scheduled off day is pure stupidity. So far the only regular he hasn't rested is the guy who shouldn't be playing period, Sano.

It's great to see how this team has learned in the off-season how to hit the ball to the open side of a shift and bunt guys over. They've won 2 games because in 1 they hit 6 HR's and the other because the only 4 true hitters in the lineup, Correa, Buxton, Arraez and Polanco drove in 3 of the 4 runs. Rocco has done nothing to help the team win by having anyone do any bunting, stealing, sacrificing, hit and run or you name it. It is true that he is sleeping, but it's way before the 4th inning. It starts when he makes out the lineup card before the game starts.

this right here. and this is why the "it's ok for starters to go only 5 innings" thing needs to end for most teams. how many teams can actually stack their bullpens with enough quality arms to consistently fill 4 (or more) innings on a regular basis? can the twins? my bet is NO. I don't know how you fix it because nowadays pitchers at all levels have pitch counts engrained into their heads from little league.

It's early. The FO has put their team on the field and have their other choices at AAA and AA. Money doesn't play any part in the plan but we shall see how the next few months go for this team and how the plan plays.

The same can be said about a 5-man rotation as well though.  There are only so many starting pitchers that will even give you the opportunity to get more than 5 innings of quality pitching on a routine basis.  And that's ignoring a pitch count.  That's part of the problem.
