nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Interesting. Duckfarts fall to win games, hard hit liners don't.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Why would anyone want to watch a Baldelli press conference? The only thing I can come up with is someone who has a being-shot-in-the-face-with-manure fetish. Why anyone watches any coach or athlete talk about the sport they play is beyond me.... If today's game doesn't convince people pitcher wins are silly.......

IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Lady from my church called in the bottom of the ninth in a tie game. What was she thinking? Then again, I answered. What was I thinking? At any rate, I would have observed that as the not-so-proud owner of Ottavino in not one, but two fantasy leagues, I could have told you that it was very likely the Twins would score. Sorry I wasn't here in advance to put everyone's mind at ease.

Couldn't you at some point just say, "I pick LaTroy Hawkins. Yeah, I know he's retired - but at least he won't cost me points."

Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 Harry S. TrumanWarning, nit-pick alert. This is incorrect. His name was Harry S Truman. He had only a middle initial, not a middle name. A period after an initial denotes an abbreviation of a name and is not used in a case like this.

The abbreviation should be permitted to stand.

Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 Throwing last years shortened season out for reasons I am happy to get into, increasing prevalence of shifting by teams hasn’t meaningfully changed league-wide BABIP. Theoretically, this is what shifting should impact the most. I did some of this work last year and can't find the work but mostly, I'm speaking of the infield shift. And from my recollection (again, can't find the work right now) the BABIP on groundballs has consistently gone down for the past 5-6 years and is well down from its historical average. If you folks want to continue this discussion, I've split it into a thread here: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/50059-effects-of-the-shift/

Like pointing out 1=0! And it gives me a guilty pleasure to use an abreviation longer than what is being abbreviated. Kind of like taking the scenic route.
