So our infield defense in the 9th inning of a tie game will be...

1B-Garver

2B-Arraez

SS-Polanco

3B Sano

Question Mark? Nothing's getting through that iron curtain of gold gloves!

We might actually hear a few balls clank off of those gloves.

He pitched well enough to get out of the jam. Jeffers didn’t catch well enough. (Dropping a foul tip)

A good pitcher doesnt make excuses for the catcher. They go back and throw him another pitch to get out of the inning.

True but he still technically should’ve been out of the inning.

If it makes anyone feel better. The Nats started out like hot garbage the season the won the WS. Their Bullpen was the worst in the league the first half of the year and they blew multiple games. I dont recall if that was because of injury or what but...just a thought.

The Orioles in 1988 also started out like hot garbage -- lost 21 straight out of the gate -- and they didn't come up for air the rest of the year.

Nope, doesn't make me feel any better.

Foul tips are often not caught. I don't know the percentage, but it's not a given or even an expectation that a foul tip will be caught.

RE Rocco...

He has zero feel for the game. Sure he relates well to the players and the club house has a positive vibe despite the on-field result. But...I'm not seeing much from him in terms of in-game management.

It's supposedly our shutdown leftie, against a LH hitter. Ahead 0-2. We need a guy who gets that out. Every time.

And Rogers got REAL lucky on a 2-2 slider as well. Hung there, just begging to be hit.

Robles loading the bases without a hit is the reason we were in a jam to begin with

And one more thing...

The Twins have Jake Cave and Kyle Garlick starting in the OF. With Buxton's injury issues and Kepler seeming to have regressed, I don't think it was too smart of the front office to operate under the assumption that you could make it through the season with two AAA+ outfielders as your contingency plan.

That's a lot of HR to luck into.

The league hit a homer every 27 PA's in 2019.  It was at 33 in 2018, 30 in 2017, 29 in 2020, and so far in 2021, it's back to 33.  There is a seasonal factor to that, but in 2019, it was still 29 PA's per homer in March/April.

It seems pretty clear that the Twins roster was built to hit homers, and in the one year homers were markedly up, they ruled.  In the years they're not, they struggle.
