Kluber to the Rangers?

What a shocking trade with only a few details out there so far. Delino DeShields & Emmanuel Clase are the only names out there so far as the return to Cleveland. There is supposed to be more included in the deal.

Would have been great if Twins could have worked out a deal for Kluber.

The Minnesota Twins have shown no ability to acquire an Ace, which is still Kluber. Who knows where Bumgarner or Ryu will end up but neither is an Ace.

The window is already closing. Yeah we''ll likely win the AL Central, but many other AL teams have gotten better while we stand pat

Cleveland looks to be starting a fire sale with Lindor next to be dealt. I would not be shocked to see Chicago pass the Twins in 2021 if not next season.

"Aces" don't get dealt for a backup outfielder and middle reliever.

If Kluber was traded to the Twins he would have become our ace.  Berrios seems to be a good summer pitcher but has yet to show a complete season worthy of being called an ace.

Good news, though it’s possible Kluber isn’t what he used to be. It must stink to be an Indians fan, it seems that management is intent on not competing despite the talent on their roster. Trading Lindor away would just be gut-wrenching.

This has nothing to do with the Twins or Berrios. The best offer for Kluber across the entire league was a backup outfielder and middle reliever. So out of 30 teams, 0 see him as an ace.

Still, if that's all Texas had to give up (and there may be more to report on) the Twins could easily have beaten that.  And Cleveland wouldn't really have given a darn about trading him within the division if they're willing to start a fire sale.

Apparently it's only DeShields and Clase going to Cleveland. Texas is taking on Kluber's entire salary. Seems like it's a pure cost cutting move on Cleveland's part, unless they're alarmed by Kluber's medicals.

If only the Twins had Delino DeShields and Emmanuel Case as trade bait. If I were an Indians' fan, I would be furious at the Cleveland FO.

and a great move by Texas. Low risk. You would have thought that Falvey would be in on a low risk move?

I guess Texas is the only club in baseball that likes "low-risk" moves, huh?

I would not take on $17.5 million and more if I was in any way concerned about a player's medicals. Of course, it is only money, and the return Texas made was pitiful to the Indians, for the now.

I look though at the solid, yet unspectacular, rotation of The Rangers. The rotation has a chance to win 70 games from the starters. Which is all you really need to ask to be competitive, especially in your division. Like the Twins rotation for 2019, lots of good sild innings and starts. But no one being a superstar. Now if the Twins could grab two more starters of the same ilk as the Rangers did.

I like Berrios, but to be honest he is no more than a 2-3 starter on most playoff teams. Almost Radke like in a sense. We called Radke our ace for so many years.

Berrios is a #2 starter, sure. Doesn't change the fact that 0 MLB clubs see Kluber as an ace.

Compare the Twins rotation to the Twins and tell me which staff you would rather have? Gibson will be their #4

Most on here didn't want Gibson in the Twins rotation at all.

Cleveland isn't doing a full fire sale. Even if they trade Lindor (which isn't likely) or Carrasco, they still have Ramirez, Clevinger, Bieber, etc. And they probably don't want to sabotage that group's odds at winning the division over the next couple years by potentially strengthening Minnesota. (Unless we blew them away with an offer, of course.)

You're right on both counts, although it's with this context: Cleveland acquired a nondescript Kluber in 2010. They gave up Jake Westbrook to the Cards, and he proceeded to average 0.0 WAR over the next three years. Kluber didn't emerge as a stud until 2014. So yes, if Kluber was traded to the Twins, back in 2010, he would have become our Ace. Now? Who knows? It's telling that the Rangers gave away very little.

Berrios was never projected to become an Ace, still isn't by most outside observers, Keith Law saw him as a reliever, or at best a #3. The Twins are doing well with him being a #1/2 starter. If he becomes a true Ace, hats off to this field staff.

We'll see. You may be right, but I'm wondering what your basis is for having such conviction about that.

The Twins through the end of May is 1.Berrios 2. Odorizzi 3. Internal 4. Internal 5. Internal

The leading internals have a combined 87 ML IP.

FYI, I think Pineda is eligible to return May 10th (game #40). And he is eligible to play in spring training, in the minors for 15 days before May 10th, so he should basically be 100% ready to go on May 10.

I'm right with you on that note. I'm just saying he's going into Texas with no pressure to be a top of the rotation guy.

Every team has considerable resource dedicated to evaluating future production. They are all looking at any potential trade candidates. We can be sure that Cleveland was willing to trade him anywhere with perhaps the exception of an AL Central team. Therefore, unless you think the best offer we would get for Berrios is a 4th OF and Texas 30th ranked prospect, the entire league does not think Kluber will be better than Berrios going forward. As a matter of fact, based on the trade return, they project a back of the rotation SP.

Texas see's an oppurtunity and pounces on it. Its 17.5mil. Very low risk but a high upside. A guy that's won 2 Cy Youngs, a handful of bad starts and a fluke injury from being him. This is far better then signing madbum or Ryu, way more risk for those two. The guys they gave up? DeShields is nothing. The RP looks decent but any RP can go up and down by year. I'm surprised Falvey wouldn't take advantage. Pretty much all of their moves have been low risk, not a criticisim but a surprise.

Those of us who don't think the off-season is over on Dec 15th are thinking it will probably look different than you project.

It's still 40 games that we have lost our right now #3 SP. 40 games with presently 2 ML seasoned starters. imo it's not the way a WS contender would want to be set up.
