Jorge Alcala Coming Up?

With tonight's rain out and a doubleheader tomorrow, Darren "Doogie" Wolfson mentions that there are rumblings of Jorge Alcala heading to Cleveland.

With 40 on the roster, someone would need to be DFAd.

Lead candidates may be:

Kohl Stewart - uninspiring outing, likely DFAd in offseason anyway.

Ryan LaMarre - added so late, but he is a RH outfield bat.

Other?

Ehire Adrianza could move to the 60-Day IL...

My guess is La Marre unless someone isn’t coming back. Kepler is back. Cave is expected back soon. They shouldn’t need another outfielder.

Is nick Gordon still available for the 60 day? I feel like that would be the better option if possible

They need to keep Gordon on the 10-day IL so they can petition to replace him on the postseason eligible list. (In order to qualify for that petition, you have to be eligible for reinstatement from the IL -- and they can't backdate a 60 day MLB IL placement to when he was still in the minors on optional assignment either.)

Somehow I missed Adrianza's injury. I think I heard he was pulled due to an oblique. Am I correct? Does it look that bad?

The injury hits just keep coming. +×#$^!

I think putting Adreanza on the 60 day DL would fix the issue nicely.

The real issue is too much dead weight on the roster.

Stewart

Hildenberg

Miller

LaMarre

Hildenberg had some success last season.

Miller has speed and might be useful in post season.

LaMarre can play all three outfield positions and had some success in AAA this year. He did draw a walk in late inning last night after all...

Stewart has shown nothing after he got drafted. What a waste of money! It's time to move on.

Adrianza to the 60-day IL at this point would mean he would miss the entire postseason, AND he would be ineligible to petition for a postseason eligible replacement.

Would Alcala have to be added to the 40-man this fall to avoid being rule V eligible?  If so, this is an easy decision.

Should have looked it up before posting...yes, Alcala needs to be added to the 40-man to be protected from the Dec 2019 rule 5 draft.  Surprised then, that they didn't make this move earlier.

That is the surprise. If he's good enough to add on Sep. 13, surely he was good enough to add on Sep. 1st like Graterol.

Although I guess Cleveland just called up a reliever too...

I was disappointed when both Alcala and Graterol weren't called up ... just Graterol. So ... delayed gratification, I guess. :)

Now ... will he stay until the end of the month? I see no reason why he wouldn't, so I hope so.

Because Kohl Stewart is no good...?

That may be so, but he is in MLB and capable of mopping up a few innings, which has usefulness. Many of us would quibble about whether the other night vs Washington should have been treated like a mop-up opportunity, but that's another debate.

Neither Stewart, Diplan, Miller, or LaMarre is likely going to be on the 40-man past November -- but only Diplan stands out as being truly useless to the MLB club in the meantime.

At this point in the season, the Twins have plenty of guys to fill in and handle the mop up innings. That title isn't and shouldn't be exclusive to Stewart.

Perhaps. But Romero/Hildy/Harper/Stashak are shorter relievers -- and one or two could be candidates for the postseason roster yet, so I think they want to see how they do in shorter stints and possibly non-mopup situations.

Smeltzer and Dobnak can throw more innings, but they seem to be tag-teaming Pineda's rotation spot.

Thorpe is a wild card. Seems like they could use him in a variety of roles, but they haven't been using him at all the past week.

The other relievers are short relievers too, and expected to be pretty good, so they don't want to waste them in mop-up spots.

Unless you really like Diplan for some reason, I don't see how anyone could prefer dropping Stewart ahead of him at this point. Even if one doesn't expect much if anything from Stewart going forward.

I don't think it matters either way. Neither will be here next year, or help much this year. Six of one.... As it were
