Game thread: Twins @ Cleveland 4:10 PM PST (6:10 PM CDT) 6/04/2019

After passing the test of Tampa, the Twins move on to the test of Cleveland.

 

Today is the opening day of a three day test of the Twins against Cleveland, with the Twins hoping to put the boot on the metaphorical throat of the Indians and apply tremendous pressure, to the point the Indians tag out for the rest of the season.

Our very own highly esteemed RiverBrian put together some excellent thoughts on the portent of this series, which I am shamelessly plugging, because it's a good read and it's good to once again read RB's thoughts at TD.

With that, on to some random thoughts:

 

1. Interesting we've had no solid word as to the ultimate destination of Keuchel or Kimbrel.

2. The opening day of the draft and the Twins sign another infielder. Interesting.

3. Congrats to Keoni Cavaco for being the first pick of the Twins.

4. Bobby Witt returns to baseball!

This is certainly not a 'do or there will be consequences' series for us; at least, not imo. I think it is for Cleveland, however. And they are gonna be tough for that reason. Go Twins!

Not that there is anything wrong with that.    Man it would be nice if Smeltzer had another great start.    I'm  not down on Pineda but wouldn't mind seeing Smeltzer step up in a big way.   Improving the bottom of the rotation is a worthwhile goal and if he does succeed we have control of him for a while.    ...   Along those lines I wonder if RB's analysis goes to script if the Indians would be a potential trade partner.    Sano, Thorpe, Graterol, Cave for Bauer and Hand?

apropos of nothing: LEN III is on KFAN right now. He was shocked to learn Jose Ramirez is batting .206 with 4 HRs. He initially refused to believe it, and ended with "I have to look that up."

 

STrib Twins beat writer, schooled on the most basic of information about the Twins primary divisional competition...by PAUL ALLEN (who can't spell baseball) of all people.
