  1. Even without the 10th inning massacre by Hader, more than half of the outs by Twins batters were K's.
  2. One stolen base for Buxton. Only 50 or so to go for the rest of the season.
  3. Der Schlagmeister was just setting us up during spring training.
  4. Miguel Cabrera hit his 350th Tiger HR in the midst of a blizzard. And Eddie Rosario grounded out in his first AB as a Clevelander.
  5. Does this mean I need to cancel my MLB.com subscription?
  6. My apologies if someone has brought this up before, but has anyone heard if MLB has instituted a minimum number of games played requirement to be eligible for the playoffs? They way it is going the Cardinals won't come close to playing 60 games. What if they finish say 25-15 and another team is 35-25? Based on wins/losses the two teams are tied, but the Cards clearly have a higher winning %. Who goes to the playoffs?
  7. 1977 was pretty good. Carew (.388), Hisle, Bostock, Goltz.....
  8. I got off easy--two small screws to reattach what I broke off from the top of the larger bone near the elbow.
  9. Sorry I'm late for the game threads, but I've been recovering from a broken arm I suffered while rushing to take a COVID test (tripped and did a beautiful swan dive into the garage). Waiting for the test results before the orthopedic doc could put me back together cost me 9 somewhat painful days. Thanks goodness for oxycodone. Have I missed anything?
  10. Not a "favorite" memory but one nonetheless, was the fact that in the 1991 World Series Mack was doing so horribly, in Game 5 Kelly actually started Chili Davis in RF (shudder).
  11. Uh, wasn't there a guy named Alex Rodriguez? In 11 play off games alone, 3 HR, 10 RBIs, .390 avg = 44 HR, 147 RBIs in 162 games.
  12. Jim Merritt for Leo Cardenas in 1968 was a significant move as was Versalles/Grant for Perranoski/Miller/Roseboro in 1967. Both of those trades set up the 69 and 70 division winners.
  13. Re: Versalles in 1965. I recall that at the time being a semi-baseball crazed 10 year I read a story during spring training that Sam Mele fining him something like $50 for loafing. Versalles didn't like it and dared him to fine him $100, so Mele did. Then he dared to fine him $150, so Mele did that too. And then he has a MVP season. Motivation or something.
  14. This weekend a high school buddy of mine made the final flight of his commercial pilot career (finished up flying between the States and China/Japan) and posted a video from the cockpit of his last landing. Talk about good timing.
  15. I am in the financial services industry (OUCH!!!). We are open but have asked clients to meet via phone/webex unless they absolutely, positively want to meet face to face. Other than sending a part-time employee home indefinitely as a precaution (a very young 80+ year old who has had some health problems in the past) and sanitizing hands and surfaces, we're doing our thing. Outside the office, school systems are closing down all over the place (I am in northern Virginia not too far from the gates of hell i.e. Washington, D.C.) and the bottled water/cleaning supply sections of many grocery stores look like they have been looted.
  16. Today's Game by Martin Quigley. Written in 1965 it's a novel about a single game, the first meeting between a team that at the insistence of it's manager traded it's Jack Morris type veteran pitcher for a Byron Buxton type budding superstar. As much of a psychological study as a story about a baseball game. Primitive Baseball by Harvey Frommer A book about baseball in the late 1800s. Excellent narrative of the game of that era and how it evolved.
  17. But were the bases loaded?
  18. It will be interesting to see how Jax does this year.
