Blake Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Today finds us in Sunny Philly, where the cheesesteak sandwich finds its home. However, of other historical note, Philadelphia was home the Constitutional Convention and eventual ratification of the Constitution. Just imagine, without the Constitution, we, shudder, would have Cricket as the national sport with Gin being the drink of choice during a game, along with those weird cucumber sandwiches Brits seem so fond of. Instead, we have baseball, brats and beer, though, Philly fans would probably argue the Philly cheesesteak sandwich is proper ballpark food. And, all things considered, I would probably have to concede the point. After all that, what else do we know? Well, we know some guy by the name of Harper signed a big contract this off-season with Philly. Meanwhile, the Twins signed.....??? Pitching for the Twins: Jake Odorizzi Pitching for the Phillies: Nick Pivetta Play ball! Oops, no game thread involving Philly is complete without The Phanatic!
Blake Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 Lineups to follow later. Or not. Disclaimer: No pixels were harmed in the creation of this post.
tbhysgb Provisional Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Lineups don't matter, we just need a place to type TORTUGA!!!!!
Joe A. Preusser Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I like our chances. Excited to continue the strong start.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Yes, the cheesesteak is proper baseball and ballpark food. They serve 'em up at Hammond in Fort Myers during ST, so ... can't imagine the Philly park wouldn't have them. And yum! I'd pay more to have that instead of a brat any day. And I like brats.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Twins are now over 40% likely to make the playoffs according to Fangraphs.......I'd like to see them strike early for pitching help........but I think that's more hope than plan at this point..... Is the game going to happen? Yesterday someone mentioned rain.....
Pitz Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Today finds us in Sunny Philly, where the cheesesteak sandwich finds its home. If its sunny, you're not in Philly today. Rain this morning. Overcast all day. Rain this evening. Good chance its going to be a double header tomorrow. If they play tonight its going to be a cold and damp one.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Is the game going to happen? Yesterday someone mentioned rain.....Yeah ... very high possibility of rain tonight ... like 85-90%. But Saturday and Sunday both look good. My guess is a double header tomorrow. Or, if both teams are off on Monday, they'll play Monday.

So that means there's a good chance this thread turns into projecting who should be the 26th man for the double-header. That's almost as fun as posting about an actual game!! I'm going with Andrew Vasquez.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I was in Philly with folk a month and a half ago. Was meeting folk, and went to the wrong Ben Franklin themed place... Also told a joke that Chief might even have been proud of. That was the highlight of my trip.

sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 And am i right in believing the Phillies aren't so bad? Is this another yard stick to see if we are tall enough to ride the ride this year?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 And am i right in believing the Phillies aren't so bad? Is this another yard stick to see if we are tall enough to ride the ride this year? given that some have them favored for the division, I'd guess they aren't bad. In the last two years they've added a legit SP, Harper, Realmuto, and more.....

Seems like it might clear out but not until about 9:30 or so local time. I suppose they could delay the start but it just doesn't look like they'll get this one in. A shame! Would hate to see them play 2 tomorrow, seems a bit early for a double-header.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 My advice is to never be withing hearing distance of people installing anything in your house, especially granite counter tops.....I'd rather not know things, just get it done and make it look nice and last....

woolywoolhouse Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 For the record: the Philly cheesesteak at Target Field is not worth the $10. Too little meat covered with too much Cheez Whiz.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Are you saying there was a bit of pointing, laughing and foul language involved? I was mostly trying not to listen (and yes, laughing, and most of the talk was in Spanish......)
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I liked this, for it's cripticness....Sorry... Don't remember off hand specifically which Franklin thing i mistook fornthe other. Will have to look it up, and on a map to be sure. As for the joke, i figured i would wait until Chief showed. If i'm wrong, i wanna know it.
Shaitan Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 These off days are killing me. The baseball season doesn't have nearly enough games.

sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I loving your joke is wrong, I dont wanna be right.Sorry, i was off running an errand... My joke wasn't much... It was just explaining how come the toll is a $1 on many (most?) bridges between PA and NJ. That is because it takes a Washington to cross the Delaware.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 And the highlight of the trip was sharing that with a tour guide near Valley Forge (still looking for the forge... didn't see it... i think it must be a forgery)and being told to get out.
BoofBonser Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Give me La Tortuga over Gonzalez and Cave right now I assume he and Cruz will be the first two to pinch hit tonight
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I don't get the reluctance to give Astudillo regular at bats.
mrtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Twins starting lineup= zero home runs, hopefully change in that bandbox!!
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 For the record: the Philly cheesesteak at Target Field is not worth the $10. Too little meat covered with too much Cheez Whiz. There isn't a cheesesteak outside of Philadelphia that's worth $10.I make them at home sometimes, they're ok, I've had a few at restaurants that were decent, but they just can't compare to the real thing. As a home cook who is fairly serious about cooking, I've researched them, and supposedly there is something unique in the water in that part of the country that brings out a certain taste/texture in the bread.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 And for the record, I'm definitely team Cheese Whiz over provolone on cheesesteak.
