I always liked DanSan - I guess I've had a soft spot since his torrid rookie campaign when he carried the Twins on his back for a month.  If he clears waivers (did he already?) then will he report to AAA?  I think he'll find an MLB team that would need him at some point this season.  Sorry to see ya get the boot Danny, but it was the right move!

Oddly, today's a day where we could have used him out there.  Grossman in the OF tonight then?

DJ Baxendale deserved this promotion
His 2016 numbers out of the pen and not being called up alone deserved an opportunity
His 2017 peripherals are solid...no extra base hits and below 1 WHIP
Blows me away that they overlook the guys the organization drafted
Must not be very good at talent evaluation

Rucinski is unlikely to actually pitch in the one week stint he's up, perhaps they want to bring a guy who isn't in the long term plans because they're not wasting development time.

I thought I"d be happier when this moment finally came.

But is the Tepesch, Adrianza, Rucinski trio any better than DanSan, Gibson and Boshers?

Adrianza, just based on his defensive potential alone, is likely an upgrade over Santana, but I view the pitchers as a wash if not a step backward ... who thought it possible?

Is he? He's a step up in the IF and a step back in the OF. If he takes PT from Escobar that means you traded Escobar's bat and D for Grossman's bat and D (he's now the 4th OF). I'm not sure that's a win for the Twins.

It's a super lateral move. I'd rather see Park as a PH. Might actually win you a game. Santana could at least steal a base, I don't see what Adrianza adds to this team.

DSan must have known he wasn't long for MLB. I had my fun with it but am hoping to retire all the jokes now (no promises when it comes to teh game threads).

Also, he went out with a home run in his final game here. How nice is that?

Just like Ted Williams...

I can't say I'm sad to see DanSan go. I think the Twins get a slight upgrade on defense with Adrianza but the hitting is probably a wash.

I think you have a great point about how he is used. If Adrianza stays in the OF like Santana then I'm all for giving somebody other than Danny a look. I've been calling for a 4th OFer for a while now. If he's used as the utility IFer as well and they're benching Escobar's bat and forcing Grossman to be the 4th OFer then I'm with you 100%, I think at best it's a horizontal move.

I suppose there are a lot of ways to utilize him, which is a good thing, but hopefully his primary role is as the 4th OFer.

Looks like Granite and Haley are active for Rochester.

Haley cannot be active for Rochester.  He is on the DL.  Unless it is a rehab assignment.

I can hardly wait to read all the TD posters exclaiming sheer exhilaration over the DFA of Danny Santana. Can hardly believe all the hate this kid has endured. He really screwed up by having such a good rookie season: after that year, you'd think the kid had a contagious case of leprosy!

The front office doesn't owe me any explanations, but IMHO then Twins now have four pitchers-Rucinsky, Tonkin, Bleslow, and Tepesch-who would not make another major league roster. It would be nice to see guys that would be prominent to their success in the future.

Yeah, too bad most of them are on the DL. Chargois, Reed, Jay, et al.

There is always a whipping boy on these boards. I wonder who the next candidate is....

I hope he makes it through waivers and gets regular playing time in AAA. Reading through the numerous posts in this site, passing through waivers shouldn't be an issue.

Did you miss the multiple posts on  Mauer, Hughes, Grossman,  almost everybody in the bullpen, and Santiago? I guess Castro or Gimmenez

Yes, rehab assignment.

It's kind of a sad day for Paul Molitor. He was trying to coach Danny Santana to play in the Molitor style, but it was only partially successful. Here's hoping Santana catches on with another club, then continues to refine his skills.

We have a lot more retreads in AAA that can be brought up.  Lets keep that train a rolling.

I think that the evidence supports that the Twins system simply does not reward their own prospects, and prefers to bring up washouts from other teams, particularly if they have touched the major leagues, even though most of those performances were terrible.

Again, the Twins can pretend they are "contenders" but this hodge podge roster of older players with a handful of younger guys is just delaying the developmental issues that will come when we need to transition to a staff that will play into the future.

Adrianza, obviously. I think Santana was a flyer who was given an outside chance to prove he belonged here while the front office got Adrianza through rehab.

I'm going back a bit further than Adrianza.

What has Santana done to prove he ever belonged?

He was awesome in 2014. And has tantalized with tools forever. They weren't going to cut him in 2015 (and he had an option), 2016 was a terrible enough year there was no point to cut loose someone like him. He hung on until now.

Plus he did a credible job in CF the year they threw him in there with no prior experience. He did what the club asked him to do which may have been detrimental to his career. He's not been a great player but the angst....

Very little, but that's not really on this front office. It appears they went and got the guy they wanted in Adrianza, unfortunately he got injured in Spring Training.

My guess is Santana never again has a regular job in the big leagues. He'll spend a few years as AAA injury depth, getting a week or two here and there, then be out of baseball.

I'm also skeptical Adrianza is his ultimate replacement, but fully on board with giving him an opportunity.
