Oy . . .  After Reading Mackey's Twitter rant, I am depressed.  They are going to hire a guy who likes RBI and Wins aren't they?

Also Dave St Peter is the worst choice for "leading" the new GM

Mark Rosen certainly made it sound like on KFAN he believes there is no chance Antony is a serious candidate, which is encouraging

Unfortunately, Antony's the one running the show in the interim, which includes a rather important trade deadline.

I'm not sure how to feel about that in the near term, but I agree that it is encouraging in the long term.

With the start out of the gate after the All-Star break, the Twins not going anywhere - you fire the manager, hitting coach and pitching coach. Sorry, you do. You make Gene Glynn at least interim manager as he has some experience with the "prospects." You bring up a couple of minor league coaches for the moment (Rassmussen, again, maybe Chad Allen temporary) and shuffle Singleton or someone into the vacant minor league spots. But with the rotation, bullpen, rotating lineups, misuse of players, not recognizing injuries...no one is safe for sure next season. Unless the Twins would play much better than .500 ball the rest of the season, you DON'T keep the field staff.

Interesting tid bits in Phil Mackey's tweet rant:

I can't say I'm surprised that they allowed TR to craft his exit plan after being loyal to the organization for so long. I AM surprised that he chose it to be a firing.

Can't say I'm too thrilled learning more about Dave St. Peter's power in the organization. A GM working "under" him doesn't sound promising at all to attract top candidates.

Re: Researching org structures via "Media Guides" - You're kidding, right?

We all had an idea that this team was behind the times, funny to read a quote about it that Mackey tweeted. Now, who knows if it's a real quote, or a "source close to the situation told me" to create his narrative.

I'd think MLB posts organizational guidelines internally.  Heck, even the NFL does that.

I think that's just as disturbing as Pohlad reading media guides to figure out how an MLB front office is supposed to be structured.

I couldn't decide whether to laugh hysterically or cry like a newborn after reading that.

That doesn't surprised me one bit, as I stated earlier.

ron gardenhire, Ron Gardenhire, RON GARDENHIRE!!!!  Who wants to put money down that it's good ole Gardy as the replacement GM?

It might not have even been said for Molitor's sake but simply to prevent the players from quitting.

I really hope that this is the case, but does Pohlad ever even think thoughts down at such a plebeian level?

I'm convinced the Pohlads are just clueless owners, and that Dave St Peter has basically conned his way into "leading" this search.

Unreal. I'd prefer Trump by and run the team at this stage.

I asked Jim Pohlad if he has studied other team's organizational structures. He said he's looked at every team's media guides. Not kidding.

Arggh.

I need to revise and extend my previous remarks- mea culpa- this quote confirms that I definitely attributed too much blame for the Twins current plight towards Terry Ryan.

Another question: do the Pohlads know how to use the Internet?

Who reads "media guides" these days anyways?

I wonder if Pohlad said Molitor was safe so that the players won't see him as the next to fall and stop listening. You have to have one constant to keep the players motivated. This team would suck even worse if the players thought the were playing for a lame duck. I agree with the earlier poster - these are just words. If the new GM wants Molitor gone, he'll be gone.

Yeah, I'm no fan of Molly's coaching, but this doesn't worry me too much. I'll judge Pohlad on what he does, not what he says. It sounds like he's not looking for a quick house cleaning. That could certainly change depending on the GM they bring in.

I've been waiting for this for a while now and damn it! I'm going to be happy about it.

I think it said Tom "shifts are stupid" Kelly might have some input.

Kelly at least has a baseball (on field) background.

To be fair, Ryan put this mess on the filed this spring, and Molitor had to tray and make it work. Some things cannot be done. So I give him a pass on the roster. But some of his decisions in hunting, stealing, and in the handling of discipline serve a lot of questions to be answered. I do agree with the posters who express concern over the owner preempting the new GM's managerial choice. That's not a good way to start a search.

So if Ryan was bringing in the kids, and Molitor preferred the vets, was this a power struggle between Ryan and Molitor?

Speaking of bad decisions, why on earth were Sano, Buxton and Mauer all out of the lineup yesterday? The freaking all star break literally just ended, is it that hard to have those guys play 3 days in a row?

Mauer sort of makes sense since he is older, but Sano and Buxton should be playing every day!

I'm not sure who preferred the kids, and who preferred the vets. Another interesting development to follow over the next few weeks. If Berrios and Chargois remain in AAA while Milone and Ramirez continue to exist on the MLB roster, we may have made the wrong choice to keep Molly.

I was at the game ranting about that very thing yesterday.  I got a bit louder when Santana turned a can of corn into a double.

Like you said, Mauer makes a little bit of sense, but Sano and Buxton should be playing every day.  There's no excuse for them not to be.

I'm interested to see the player movement between Rochester and Minneapolis in the next week or so.  I think that will be telling on who was pulling the strings on those decisions.

Pohlad is living up to the assessment I made of him. Probably was deleted for violating site rules though.

In any case, I don't think either the Molitor or St. Peter issues are fatal for the search - I think the far bigger issue is the capabilities of the decision-makers.

Especially with a series on the line, NTM the Indians are in first place, you shouldn't be rolling out a C squad lineup against them 3 days after the break!

I don't care so much about the series.  I can more about their progression and development.  Awfully hard to progress while sitting on the bench.  They're in their early 20s, they don't need rest after having a week off a week ago.  Santana doesn't need to play.

I don't even know what a media guide is! Now, time to google it...

I'm going to hold off judgement, especially with Buxton and Mauer.  A game with a 2+ hour rain delay requires getting stretched out and ready twice, Buxton could still be a little sore from the collision last week and Mauer has nearly played every day all season.  As for Sano, I would have preferred him in the lineup over Grossman, but he did K 3 times and make 2 errors the day before.

For years I've avoided going to Twins day games on Sundays because that always seems to bee the 'rest your better players it's time for backups to play'...day.
