Arcia and Rosario

With how Arcia has been raking lately in Rochester, and Rosario has been playing great for the Twins, I've been trying to figure out a way to get both in the line-up. Then I remembered that Rosario was originally a second base prospect.

Could Rosario be a consideration for shortstop, if Arcia forces his bat into the line-up? If so how much of a downgrade would this combo be defensively? (I know offensively I would rather have Arcia than Santana in the line-up.)

Considering he has never played even an inning at SS in the minors I would say there would be a zero percent chance this would ever be considered.

Now, this is a new one.

Usually its Rosario to 2nd base, Dozier to SS. Mauer to Catcher. Plouffe to 1st. Sano to third. Arcia to left.

6 straight strikeouts for Arcia after his homerun. He looks more and more like ABW now.

No... he was an outfielder that they tried at 2B because it was an area of weakness in the organization. He wasn't very good at 2B defensively. It would (most likely) be a disaster.

Not even close  :)

Walker has 133 SO to Arcia's 46 SO.

But then looking like Walker can't be all bad?

24 HRs to Arcia's 11

76 RBI to Arcia's 39

26 BB to Arcia's 11

47 XBH to Arcia's 19

21 Doubles to Arcia's 10

Thanks, my first memory of him was a 2B prospect and there bring discussion of what to do between him and Dozier. I am glad he is playing his more natural position.

It looks to me like Arcia is trying to reinvent himself:  i.e.  fewer K's, better all-around hitting, etc.  However, defense will probably always be an issue.  I can see him in a rotation with Hunter in RF and both of them in an extended rotation with Sano at DH [sano getting playing time at 3B].

Comparing counting stats doesn't make a whole lot of sense when there is a pretty significant difference in the number of games played.

His 27+% k rate suggests otherwise

No, and there are times where Hunter or Hicks can sit while both Rosario and Arcia play. At present we are talking about 7 guys for six positions (Rosario, Hicks, Hunter, Arcia, Mauer, Plouffe, Sano, and the three OFs, DH, 3B, and 1B). Someone, likely Arcia, but also Hunter, is going to be playing a bit less. That's ok. Imagine the Twins having a respectable bench bat to hit for Suzuki, Escobar, or Santana? And TWO of them when Buxton gets back!?

The team won't do it, but Dozier could still play SS. I always found it odd that they gave up on him on defense, but not offense. Physically he could do it, it was the mental stuff that got in the way. Same with his bat, which got fixed.

+1 for the Dozier could play SS, well, at least as well as our current SS. Polanco is quickly becoming a viable option in MN now too. Hitting .327 in 12 g at Rochester, after .301 in 67 games at Chattanooga. And he's already on the 40-man roster - so an easy 'swap' for Santana or someone else.

I think Rosario, barring a major slump, is likely to stay. I want to pull for Arcia, but when happens when Buxton comes back? Speaking of, anyone know when Buxton's timetable to return is? And he'll likely spend a rehab week or two in the MiLB right?

It was his poor arm and range and not mental. The likelihood that he would need to move to second base or utility role due to his physical skills was well reported prior to him arriving in the majors.

Too often on TD lack of success is attributed to giving up and mental make up.

The Twins ability to prevent runs this year is greatly helped by the improved defense. Regular play of Rosario at 2B, Dozier at SS and Arcia in LF would be disastrous.

I think that the Twins can get away with Arcia or Hunter in RF on any day and both in the OF when a groundball pitcher is throwing. Similarly they have been starting Nunez at SS with a fly ball pitcher at times.

No, but I wouldn't mind seeing Rosario get 3-6 starts a year at 2B just for the sake of maintaining flexibility.

Long term I'd start Buxton, Rosario and Hicks against lefties, and Arcia against most righties while sitting one of Hicks/Rosario. You'd have Arcia as a late game PH when he's not starting and Hicks/Rosario as defensive subs when they don't start.

There's not enough room for Arcia to play regularly until Hunter retires, leaves or is 5OF/PH, the DH spot opens up, or due to current OF injury/poor performance.

As much as I want to see Arcia's lefty power bat in this lineup, how soon we all seem to forget what a clown show the Twins outfield was with him in it. The thought of him roaming out there kind of terrifies me really.

They m,ay jsut let Arcia stew for awhile. He will be up here, as will Vargas. The new bench of the Twins going forth would be Vargas, Hicks, Pinto and Santana, replacing Robinson,. Nunez, Escobar and Fryer. I like that. Of course, that means no Hunter resigning next year. The decisions the Twins have to make are what to do with Poluffe, can they trust Arcia to be a regular, is Buxton rady next year, not this year. And what to do with Walker, Kepler, Polanco (who could be the starting shortstop and Escobar tradebait). It looks to be an even mroe interesting team next year!

But I see Arcia getting more time in the minors, until they figure out what to do with Shane Robinson.

In an effort to audition replacements for the Duensing Rule (let's face it, this is our last hurrah, it's been a good run), I'd like to suggest the following.....

We need a catcher?  Let's just move Rosario there. Problem solved!

We'll call it the Rosario Rule.  (Has good alliteration too, that's a bonus)

I'm shocked the ABW Fan Club has not responded to your cheap shot yet.... They were here just a couple of weeks ago. Where'd they go?

I don't see where Arcia fits on this team currently.  Backup left field and backup DH is about it.  1-2 games a week.

I have posted this all over the place, but pre-Buxton returning, there are simply 7 guys for 6 starting spots. Rotate them. Hunter clearly needs time off. So does Plouffe. It's easy to see 3 games a week for Arcia starting plus some pinch hit at bats. Good teams have players like that.
