gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Looks like the Red Sox are/were willing to move Bradley for a solid relief pitcher this past summer. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/5/15/8609657/2015-mlb-draft-early-mock-draft Bradley is more or less the Red Sox's Aaron Hicks - a former top prospect who couldn't hit at the ML level. The Red Sox signed a Cuban CF to a 70+ million dollar deal and have Mookie Betts in CF so Bradley started the year back in AAA. He hit well but has been horrible in the 4 games since he was called back up. My guess is that most teams could get him for not much right now. The Twins seem to have some future options at CF and probably don't need him but he would give them more options/depth.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 With a player like him, I would like to see legit speed and the ability to steal bases. This hasn't happened for three years. I don't know what is going on with him, but his future is clearly as a fourth OF.
Linus Verified Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 At this point, I think HIcks has a better chance of succeeding, so, no thanks.
Boom Boom Verified Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 The Twins already have their Aaron Hicks, and his name is... uh... I forget.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Wrong link? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/05/mariners-rejected-bradley-for-furbush-offer-from-red-sox.html Furbush does have a career 10.0 K/9 as a reliever, but has been very LOOGY in usage. Jackie Bradley Jr has been pretty bad though, and is already 25.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Ricky Nolasco for Jackie Bradley Jr and it's a deal.
blairpaul715 Verified Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Why wouldnt someone take a flier on him, former supplemental 1st round pick, with a good Minor league history? I am not saying we necessarily should, but i wouldnt be against it...........I know we have alot of minor league prospects, but the more you have the better chance of making one or more stick. Just my 2 cents
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 The Twins already have their Aaron Hicks, and his name is... uh... I forget. Jordan Schafer I believe is the name you're looking for. Gary Brown was made available also. Perhaps the Twins could put together an All-Star group of BA's biggest CF busts this decade. Byron Buxton is not allowed to join that band.
blairpaul715 Verified Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Here is some comparables: Hicks: .205 ML BA 478 AB................Minor league stats Avg .275, OBP .379, SLG .427, GO/AO 1.15Bradley: .193 ML BA 487 AB................Minor league stats Avg .296, OBP .394, SLG..457, GO/AO 1.24I think alot more pressure to perform in Boston than Minnesota, and maybe a change in scenery will make a difference, just like if Hicks fails again here, maybe he needs a new voice, again not advocating for it, but i wouldnt be against it.At this point, I think HIcks has a better chance of succeeding, so, no thanks.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2015 Author Posted May 15, 2015 Bradley's struggles really surprised me. I thought he was a touch overrated - I never thought he'd be an all star. But he was a solid hitter in the minors with good plate discipline. And he was going up to Fenway? Man, I was sure he'd hit enough to stay in the lineup. Instead, he walked 40 times and struck out 150. He could be a change of scenery guy. No question he was pressing. But with the struggles of Bogaerts (and a lesser extent Betts) I wonder if something else is going wrong in Boston. Obviously, it depends on the price, but I'd take a flier on him and see if Bruno can find something in his swing to fix.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Fill in the blank Buxton = Bradley Jr + ______
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2015 Author Posted May 15, 2015 Fill in the blankBuxton = Bradley Jr + ______God, I pray the answer is Willie Mays.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Bradley Jr. + Swihart? Too little? Too much?
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Ricky Nolasco for Jackie Bradley Jr and it's a deal.I'd throw in Brian Duensing.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Can Duensing be sold as a good reliever? Stauffer?..... just look at last years stats? Please?
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Big question is can he play the infield when our infielders are playing in the outfield?
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I'd take a flyer on him if he could be had for something cheap. Problem is that this team needs good relievers. I doubt Boston would be wanting someone we want to get rid of... Honestly, I'd be quite willing to flip Milone or Pelfrey for him as well. But again, I doubt Boston would be interested.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Jackie Bradley Jr is the Rex Sox' Jordan Schafer. The Twins already have one of those players... However if they'd take Stauffer for him, I'd take him off the Red Sox' hands in a heartbeat
jokin Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 No more outfielders. Are you including their infielders who primarily play OF?
beckmt Verified Member Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 No to Bradley, Twins need to flip a starting pitcher or two, but not for a suspect., which is now what Bradley is. Would rather make a multiplayer deal for an ace, who we could sign(Cueto anyone). Twins have lots of spare parts and upper level talent, so to trade some of it would want a big return.
Tibs Verified Member Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Bradley Jr. + Swihart? Too little? Too much?I may be a little biased, but if the Red Sox called me with that offer for Byron Buxton I'd ask if they forgot to say the other names they are throwing in. At this point, that is basically a one for one trade with Buxton and Swihart.

Trading suspects gets suspects in return. It's also really hard to combine spare parts to get aces. Every time one of these trades are conceived please evaluate as if the Twins were getting the spare parts.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Are you including their infielders who primarily play OF?Sure, why not... With the exception of Escobar. I don't *like* him playing outfield but I've always felt Escobar has the makings of a potential super-utility guy. Giving him some time in the outfield could make him a very valuable player, provided he becomes even somewhat adept at playing a corner OF position. But even then, it'd probably be for the best if he was never put in that position in the first place.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I know its a crackpot idea to offer Buxton for trade. God knows he wont struggle like other prospects or need to be optioned and recalled over a number of years before he sticks (if he sticks). He's on the Cedar Rapids-Mike Trout-MVP-HoF path after all. Unlike Bradley who is only batting .857 in AAA right now with elite defense and base running. Man what a bust. Seriously, if the Twins could fast forward through all that, why not package Buxton with a reliever and get a the same prospect back minus the heartbreak in return, PLUS a major prospect or two on top of that, who maybe fills an area of need (ie Catcher)?

I too hoped he'd quickly adapt to becoming proficient in the OF, now I'm not sure he'll ever make it to that level.

This is more like a fantasy baseball trade. The kind of trade that is possible is May or Gibson for Bradley if that matched the two team's needs. If the Twins could buy low on JBJ and he became the player you thought then the move would be to spin off Buxton in a second major trade. But you aren't going to be able to do it in one trade. Especially since Boston has Mookie Betts and Castillo. I also don't think JBJ is the player that you think he is. He had fairly high K rates in the minor except for one half season and he won't hit for much power at the MLB level. He can become a starter but most likely he would be a below average one.

If the Twins were going to move Buxton, they could package him for someone like Hamels or Tulo or such. Sort of like what the Royals did with Myers. Swihart? That sounds like a Red Sox fantasy. That would be a horrific trade for the Twins.

But I wouldnt give up a May or Gibson for Bradley, but it was said that , supposedly Boston had said they would trade Bradley to Seattle for their LOOGY, and I would be happy to trade a player like that for Bradley.
