Larnach certainly isnt a needle mover. A poor defender and a bat that cant play everyday is something that can be easily replaced

Well....he has better stats than some of the others that are on the roster...they attempted to trade him.

Better stats than some of the others on the roster??! Sounds like a low bar to me with this roster employing the like of Kreidler and such...

Guess we will lose Alex Johnson for nothing :(

Yeah there were some potential hitters who could have helped, I'm hopeful that tre lack of traded means that internal help is imminent. I'm also aware that imminent help could take the form of Matt Wallner.

Coin flip on wallner...pitching in the upper league has led to  air hitting

Yep. Even as a fan, I’m not interested in management “proving” anything to me. I’m interested in them making smart moves that build a championship-caliber team, even if those moves are ‘controversial’, and especially if they take some intestinal fortitude and long-sight vision to make. This deadline had none of that. Not that I was expecting it.

One thing to think about is if there was actual any offers on Jeffers...Larnach one fell apart...

I concur. And I'd have traded Jeffers. He's going to play how many games the rest of the way?

Again, I'm not the owner/GM worried about attendance this year and early next......

It's also a net benefit thing.  Jeffers is good and trading him will hurt....but he doesn't play everyday.  Adding the two bullpen arms, pouncing on a hot catcher market, and adding one more guy could be a better team with a better overall roster composition

This roster is poorly constructed and needed to be fixed.

It’s poorly constructed because Pohlad is trying to do just enough to get into the playoffs. He is meddling too much which is why him and Falvey didn’t get along. He has zero MLB experience and he only has a 12-18 month horizon. He is not worried about the long term. Sell tickets and increase the team value. It’s why other orgs said they didn’t understand the Twins philosophy.

You mean their starting 3B, current CF, RF, and catchers? And Ryan, Bradley, and other pitchers?

This is the team largely built by Falvey.

Buxton, Kepler, Sano, Rosario, Gibson, Berrios, Dozier, Escobar, Santana, Mauer, Polanco, Garver, Rogers, Duffey, Pressley. What Falvey inherited vs. what he developed is pretty black and white right now.

Most of the talent you'd give Falvey credit for came off the back of Bill Smith and Terry Ryan assets that Falvey traded to keep his teams afloat until he ran out of prior regime assets to sell... and then we missed the playoffs 4/5 years.

Hoffman is an elite arm. Giving up Dason Hill definitely is a loss. But with the control and discounted salary next year, I think this is a positive addition. If things go south for the team this year they can trade him over the winter or the deadline next year and get prospects back.

Good trade for the Twins. Twins need Hoffman for the stretch run this year and all of next year.  Hill may never pan out. He's no Randy Johnson nor Chris Sale. Klein probably will have a major league career as a  middle reliever. Don't know anything about Pena. But I do know about Hoffman. He is a good closer.

They at least lengthened out the BP. Hoffman is one of the top arms in the league, per his swinging strike rate as sixth best in all of baseball. High price to pay, but similar to what TB paid for Tyler Wells today, with Hoffman being a much better arm.
Too bad they didn’t address the BP in the offseason, but they’ll have the BP mostly resolved next year with Hoffman, Gomez, Morris, Funderburk, Nance(?), and others back (not sure of Banda’s status).

What proof do you have that Pohlad has told Zoll he wants a certain player over another player on the roster.

Falvey is the one who signed Bell to play 1B, not DH and signed Caratini after they traded for Jackson.  Maybe Zoll is in over his head which is why teams were confused.

He has a 286 BA .. believe that is 3rd or 4th on the team...3rd ops...3rd obp...4th slugging... a 286 avg is decent in baseball.

The future wave will also most likely be credited to Falvey. Say what you will Falvey could find starting pitching. Variety of methods. He didn’t hit on hitters from 17 through 21 and that was his downfall.

The other contenders all picked up the big name players I was hoping we'd get at least one of. But tbh if I was any of them, I'd rather go to the Red Sox / White Sox / Yankees / Guardians etc. rather than the Twins right now if I wanted a genuine shot at a world series title this year. But one or two big names was probably not going to be enough to make this team a World Series winning team if we're honest.

But still a promising sign for the Twins to buy and invest in an area of weakness. Even if it's just for the fans to make playoffs and give us hope for next year. Get some playoff experience in the young guys.

I'd still like to see some roster shuffling to put more pressure on the current guys to perform.

A genuine shot at the World Series this year?  Your kidding.  The Twins are a couple of year away from that.  They now have a genuine shot at a Wild Card. and they held onto all their top prospects, except Hill doing it.

Every other catcher moved. Of course there were actual offers.

While we don't KNOW this, I think you are 100% correct.

Is Hoffman under control for next year? If so, how much are the Twins on the hook for?

Yes. $11M next season

Has anybody else brought up this bit of Twins history?

https://www.espn.com/mlb/news/story?id=5421810

Capps: 1.9 WAR over 3 seasons for the Twins, then retirement.

Ramos: 10.6 WAR over the next six seasons for the Nats, at a time when Joe Mauer had to move to first base.

But this is the kind of move you make when ownership says go for it. The Twins did win the division that year. Let's hope they pull it off this year.

Well...none were advertised...possibly were not acceptable.. so all rumors or thoughts...not like Larnach which was in the media

We cannot know how Zoll or other MN Twin front office people are regarded by their brethren, but something seemed off about the inability to pull off a significant series of trades. Maybe the Twins prospects are looked on very poorly, at least less than is often suggested here at TD. Keith Law has had the farm system in the back of the middle ten in baseball.

No matter what, the roster still looks unbalanced. However, now we know the club that will roll through the final stretch this season.

I'm guessing Kendry Rojas goes down to work as a starting pitcher with the addition of Hoffman. It also seems like the Twins are planning on using Kaelen Culpepper and Walker Jenkins soon, at least Jenkins.

Well..like it or not.  .he is the owner and can do what he wishes.  Honestly, I do not miss Falvey... his press conferences.....and the burning up of the team last year...two of the relievers he tossed were all 🌟 this year...miss you Lou

I have a friend who is a die hard Jays fan. He said he would have taken a roll of tape for Hoffman and anything beyond that is gravy.

They might not be around much longer but they have been here for awhile

Morris in the bullpen, too.

That means I wouldn't join the Twins this year for a genuine world series shot...
