In the last three weeks or so, Detroit hasn’t floundered, while KC, Mn and CLE have. It does look like a runaway and the chances for a wild card seem to have also fallen off the table.

I don’t know if the Twins have it in them to turn around their season again and I think the chances are smaller that Detroit will turn into a pumpkin. It looks like a real long shot that the Twins will make it to October baseball and actually have a chance to make some noise.

That's all folks , the outcome was just as I expected , skubal was definitely Cy young tonight but our hitters helped him some ...

Detroit has a good team , the twins do not ...

Detroit has a good manager,  the twins do not ...

Pitchers did their part. Batters already on the plane to Miami I guess. Frustrating club to say the least. See you guys Tuesday.

Didn't Paddack and Lee say they had a fishing trip planned in Miami tomorrow in an interview earlier this week?  Paddack went less than 5 and Lee bounced into a DP so they both did their part to get ready for South Beach early.

1 of 3.

As expected.

Lucky we got 1. But it really doesn't matter at this point. In about 4 weeks we should be playing audition baseball with the youngsters

The Detroit Tigers selected Skubal in the ninth round, with the 255th overall selection, of the 2018 MLB draft, and he signed with the team with a $350,000 signing bonus.[

Twins missed it 9 times in that draft.  Only 2 picks in 9th round.   WTH!  Twins must have declined the pick in the 9th round.  Really stupid!

That tells me that Twins FO and scouting department really suck.

Why just the Twins?  What about the other 28 teams.

TD would have been calling him a failed pick after his first two seasons: 9-16 4.57 ERA, 44 HR allowed in 181.1 IP (4.6 IP/GM), but the 4 seasons since (probably for another team, Cincinnati??) would have been nice...

Skubal came close...striking out 8 of first 9 batters.

The modern MLB record for most consecutive strikeouts to start a game is nine, achieved by Pablo López of the Miami Marlins on July 11, 2021, against the Atlanta Braves .

Lopez...  Pablo Lopez....  🤔

Nope.  Doesn't ring a bell.

Stick a fork in 2025, boys. At least they kinda kept things competitive until July 1.

Aside from that 12 game winning streak it hasn't been much fun to be honest, as watching a below-average team with no heart is always kind of a drag.

Hope Buxton can have a career season. Keep Ryan and sell the rest.

Tell the Pohlad family to sell the team!

For context, let's look at the best pitching prospects/graduations that the Twins have drafted in the Falvey Era:

Festa: Drafted in the 13th round, Ober: 12th round, Matthews: 8th round.

Also, I am not trying to compare any of these pitchers to Skubal.  Just pointing out that what we consider our best prospects were selected in later rounds and passed over by 29 other teams.  I don't remember the last high draft pick pitcher that made it to the Twins.  I guess you could consider Petty, who was traded to the Reds.

Weeks ago I predict at least 4 games under .500 on 7/1 and probably more like 6+ games under.

Speaking of Hinch.

If I was the Commissioner of MLB he'd be banned from MLB for life. Houston scandal. Agree ? Disagree?

This regime has only spent one top 30 pick on a pitcher since 2017 and that indeed was Petty. Within the first 5 rounds since then, they've had exactly zero successes for starting pitchers (with the jury being out on the recent classes). As for the bullpen with first 5 rounds, Cole Sands is the only success. They prioritize hitters in the draft (and the results are a mixed bag if you're being charitable) and have forced themselves to hit on late picks to find starters but have mostly found arms that can work as solid relievers. That plus having zero successes the last decade with international pitching prospects, the strategy leaves them with no path to finding high end of the rotation pitching. Obviously it's a hard thing to develop, but is it really surprising that this strategy has yielded minimal results?
