The internal young options are sometimes like the back-up QB. Everyone loves them...until they actually start playing.

Miranda's done enough so that he is somewhat of a known-commodity. I don't think he's going to be glued to the bench because Ty France is on the roster.

If I'm wrong, so be it.

I don't love too many of the young guys, but when you bring in veterans to be the starting QB and they are clearly Christian Ponder level of starting QB, yeah, just put the back up in.

I was never terribly anti-Falvey. I liked that he updated the archaic system the team ran under Terry Ryan and cleared out most of the old-boys-club. I liked using math to solve problems (sorry old schoolers) and that the team changes hitting and pitching approaches every few years to adjust to what was and wasn't working.

But this off season was just bad. I get that the wallet might have been closed until a week ago, but this is a really, really bad look. It seems like a desperate attempt to put low level vets on the team in an effort to pin blame of a disappointing 2025 on them to try to keep his job. His primary job as an architect of a mid-market team was to develop a sustainable core. I'm sure he thinks hiding the young guys behind these scapegoat vets will lessen the impact if they disappoint.

I think he's very wrong though and this is going to be worse for him than having any of the young players fail.

Buy a ticket? Not what I'll do,
I've had enough of this déjà vu.

I just bought tiks for when they play DET at Target in April and when they play at TEX in Sept

Who can help as a right-handed hitting left fielder? France? The guy that's never played a major league inning in the outfield? Or Miranda - the other guy that's never played an inning in the outfield?

Yes

So I’ve been neutral on Falvey appreciating the system upgrades and ability to hire good coaches.  I’ve always felt he has been too rigid in some of his beliefs to adapt and improve.  This signing just gives me the sinking feeling that he is wedded to a process whose ceiling is barely making the playoffs but with no real shot to make a World Series much less win one.  Do I think Miranda is going to be a great hitter?  I doubt it but a good chance he is a decent or better hitter.  We all know what France is and it ain’t putting us over the top.

Agreed. I was pretty pro Falvey until this last week. But it's a repeat of a strategy that is not sustainable. One that is boring. One that offers no hope for the future, only a floor, very low floor, for the present. I'm done.

Geez...now they're spending money like a drunken sailor! Well, maybe more like a tipsy deck hand...but Little Joe or Uncle Jim must have given the green light to blow a few bucks.

Would have been nice had they did when, you know, good players were available to sign.

Have the Twins announced that he's here for 1B? He said he was willing to catch this year. Are we sure he's not the Vazquez replacement?

This is sarcasm, don't freak out. He really did say he was willing to catch this year, though.

Can't wait for games when they run Bader and France out there as starters.

I know I won't have to wait long.  I fear I'll see it a lot.

I most look forward to the games where Bader pinch-hits for Wallner in the 2nd inning because the other team used a RH opener and  then brought in a lefty.

This is one of those signings that is low upside, high downside. France was available last season for league minimum off the waiver wire. There is no reason to give him a guaranteed contract. I think I'd rather give Mickey Gasper the playing time.

Really hoping he gets cut before the season begins.

I'm no fan of Falvey, but this being the straw that broke the camel's back seems odd. What could he have done differently only in the last week that would make you feel better?

I continue to be confused as to why folks are blaming Falvey.    If your boss gave you $20 to buy your whole office lunch, you'd have to buy $20 worth of crap to stretch the money.   Is that your fault or your Bosses fault?    It's not like Falvey is looking at Pete Alonso and Ty France and going, "Yep, Ty is the better player."     France is a $.25 hotdog in this analogy.  Continue to blame the owners, even if they are selling.  They have billions.  Billions.  They'd prefer to save it and feed us Ty France.

Not sign bad players. Trust the system filled with his players and coaches. If they can't beat France, his system sucks and he should resign.

Especially when one of the singings was objectively good...

He's picking France over Miranda and other internal options, options his organization drafted and coached.

These are the fringe players of the roster. They had obvious needs for a LH reliever, 1B and back-up OF'er. They filled them. All three are "meh" signings but none of them are robbing roster spots from anyone meaningful.

Otherwise known as "Rocco-Ball"!

I assume Miranda will still be on the team and play against all LH starters. Either at 1B, 3B or DH. Julien is the one out in this scenario unless he wins the 2B job over Brooks Lee.
