  1. This. There's a reason this team is first in the AL and has terrible attendance. No one wants to (or should) give their money to this guy or anyone in his family. The team is doing well due to some great young pitching, timely hitting, etc. Not because Tom is around more. I love the Twins, but I'll be watching them in Milwaukee this year. A $2 can of watery beer doesn't make up for gutting the team and basically running it back with what's left over. Sell. The. Team.
  2. Yes, he has, several times. He's made the point that if you don't tear down the team by slashing payroll, those increased fan numbers can compound over time. What if we didn't slash payroll, were still good, and increased attendance for a 2nd year, then a 3rd year, and so on? Do you see how this works? A good product over time builds trust that the product will be continuously good, thus creating and maintaining 'fans' of said product. And how many lifelong fans did they possibly miss out on creating over these years? It all builds, man. No one said that 350,000 extra fans would pay for Player X. It doesn't even work that way. I'm not sure how anyone else can explain this to you. Seems you either just want to argue or you're Tom Pohlad's kid.
  3. If Jenkins, Culpepper, Rodriguez etc were the "young guys" I think the sentiment would be different. We're talking Wallner, Julien, Clemens, Gasper, Larnach, etc. None of them inspire much excitement and don't count as "young", in my opinion...
  4. Did we just get rid of our entire scouting department?? I understand scouting isn't what it used to be, but this appears to be another cost-cutting move. That playoff series win of 2023 feels like a different decade. I'm not sure how they are expecting to keep fans? How loyal can a person be? It's one thing to suffer through some losing years, never get a big free agent (I guess outside of Correa), etc. It's another thing completely when the owners go out of their way to make the fan experience worse in every possible way to save what amounts to pennies to them. I have watched the Twins for 40 years and never have I been less interested or more discouraged. And this counts the contraction days. With the stadium they were given, the Pohlad's have no excuses other than they ran this team into the ground. Again. Living in Madison, watching the Brewers thrive with less, is both infuriating and enticing.
  5. Maybe we can also retire the conversations from guys who are only on here to give others a hard time about their post. That is considerably more tired than the post you are criticizing.... .
  6. I may be wrong, but my understanding is the debt is the Twins, but it's not FROM the Twins. I read the Pohlad's basically fail at everything and use the Twins to borrow against to prop up other failing ventures. Again, happy to be corrected if this is inaccurate.
  7. Using your argument, we didn't miss out on Painter either, as Philly wouldn't budge on him.
  8. The Twins are not, and have never been, a small town team. Depending how market size is determined, Minneapolis/St.Paul is between the 11th and 15th largest market in MLB. The Pohlad's have conditioned us to think we are small market because they function as small town (cheap) owners.
  9. Seeing what the A's got for Miller (and Sears)....I'm even more disappointed. Duran is better than Miller and they got the 3rd best prospect in baseball plus others. Ugh....
  10. Those are all fair points. Can we agree that Falvey and the Pohlad's are both to blame? Also, sorry for the assumption I was feeling a bit punchy that particular day.....
  11. Thanks analogy expert. I'm assuming you're the guy that also takes time out of your day to correct people's spelling. Also, Falvey didn't just take this job this year. He's had winters where he could spend. He was able to sign Correa (twice) over the last several years, so your comment doesn't make sense either. I would say this offseason is much different
  12. Thanks for the clarification, Cory! Less than $5M for this year makes much more sense. Still too much, but not as bad.
  13. OMG I didn't see the details of the contract. $8M for Bader?????? I take back what I said about only blaming the Pohlad's. I assumed we got Bader for a couple million. Holy s&*t. Welp, I'm now speechless. Go ahead and rip my prior post to shreds. Yikes, Falvey!
  14. Point taken, 100%. The hope is that is not the case. I hope this is a depth signing and he'll be used like Farmer, here and there (different positions, I realize). I just think we're blaming the wrong guy. Falvey is handicapped to signing guys for a few million, if that. Lots of those guys out there, but none of them are good. But overall, I agree that Miranda is the better option and I hope he wins the position battle that appears to be developing. I just think we're blaming the wrong guy when Pohlad is the one directing this mess of a budget.
  15. I continue to be confused as to why folks are blaming Falvey. If your boss gave you $20 to buy your whole office lunch, you'd have to buy $20 worth of crap to stretch the money. Is that your fault or your Bosses fault? It's not like Falvey is looking at Pete Alonso and Ty France and going, "Yep, Ty is the better player." France is a $.25 hotdog in this analogy. Continue to blame the owners, even if they are selling. They have billions. Billions. They'd prefer to save it and feed us Ty France.
  16. I agree. I admit, I never watched him in the minors and most pitchers struggle a bit when first called up. But I also feel like a #3 rotation spot seems most reasonable. Like you, I hope I'm wrong!
  17. If the idea is that we re-sign Cease after this season, I would do any of the 3 deals above.
  18. You really don't think our Minor League Player of the Year x2 can outperform Kepler? In a small sample size, he proved he could. Castro is outperforming Kepler. What are we even talking about??? How is this even an argument at this point?
  19. I understand your argument, I really do. I just can't wrap my mind around this. Why not just keep Kepler, who is a better hitter (between two terrible hitters, but still) and is not much of a downgrade from Gallo defensively? That's why I term it "useless." It's the equivalent of going out and getting a defensive catcher when you have 5 Drew Butera's on your 40 man roster....it's redundant, expensive and illogical, Gallo is getting to a point in his career where he is becoming unplayable outside of being a defensive replacement. I expected him to sign somewhere like Kansas City or Pittsburgh for 1 year at $2M to try to rebuild his value. It's just a bit shocking, I guess!
  20. This is the most useless signing I can remember from this FO....and there have been plenty. We have 4-5 left-handed corner outfielders making pennies by comparison who would provide more value. We should have just signed Sano for half that and told him to hit left-handed. It would have made just as much sense and been a lot cheaper. Guess I'll be saving money on MLBTV this summer. Yuck.
  21. Agreed. I was totally done with Gordon, and he has carved out a nice role as a 4th OF/utility INF (at least that's what he should be, if Twins were healthy). I have no patience, which is reason #7854 that I'm not a MLB GM.
  22. Can someone explain how losing Buxton sets us back at all, assuming we get a good trade return? Dude is NEVER healthy! Wouldn't it be better to get some prospects, sign/trade for someone like Marte, and move on? Is Buxton for 60 games better than a player with 70% of his talent for 150 games, plus using his salary to spend elsewhere? I don't understand what I'm missing. He's had 7 years to prove he's durable. He is not.
  23. Unwritten rules in baseball are pretty dumb, but I'm also getting older and grew up with them, and understand why some folks respect them. I get both sides. Someone made the point above, when comparing sports, that baseball isn't timed so it's a little different than, say, an NBA player jacking up a 3 at the buzzer when up by 30. You have to continue play to the end of the game. My problem was his celebration. He/his teammates reacted like he hit a walk off against Babe Ruth. You really want to get back at a team?? My suggestion in the future is to switch from aggressive (hitting a player) to passive-aggressive. If I were Rocco, I would have told my players to sit down in the field and have Tortuga throw 100 consecutive balls. You wanna celebrate? Fine, then we're done throwing it over the plate. Grab a snack, you're going to be here for another 6 hours. And if your reply to me is that this is stupid and petty, you are right, that's kind of what I'm going for
  24. I attended this game. After Cruz hit the HR in the top of the 1st my 15yr old turned to me and said, "Just wait, Happ will give it right back." And not only was he right, but I knew he was right as Cruz was still rounding the bases. There are so many things wrong with this club, and it's hard to watch. It's even worse dropping hundreds of dollars to watch a game that was over by the 3rd inning. At least the weather was nice. Gonna be a long summer....
