Just came here to post this. I did a double take at MLBTR first, assuming somebody else had the same name. Good for him. 30 next week. And possibly only getting the callup because the Mets cut Tonkin.

A long, long journey for him, fulfilled at last.  He gets to tell his grandson someday, "I was a major leaguer."  I don't get to tell my grandson that.

Those moments between Grandpa and Grandson are special and shouldn't be taken for granted.

Don't waste a moment, take every opportunity to tell him you were a major leaguer.

A name I thought would never see the majors has been called up by the Mets, Tyler Jay.

As long as the Mets are around the Tyler Jay's of the world have a chance at the show.

The Mets? Wasn't he with the Yankees in spring training? What happened? All these transactions are making my head spin!

Jake Odorizzi signed a MiLB contract with TB in March but was released two days ago on 4/11.  I know that it doesn't bode well for his future prospects that the Rays gave up on him.  But will/should the Twins show any interest in him and sign him to see if he can justify a trip from St. Paul to Minneapolis?

The Twins didn't bring back a guy who they originally drafted back in 2007 and signed for a couple of seasons to play in St. Paul.

He is also one of the few to be on the Twins major league roster, for a day at least, without getting into a game.

Elliot Soto signs minor league deal with the Angels.

Wow, those numbers aren't very good. Currently, with these numbers, we wouldn't be any better with Polanco in replace of Julien, Gallo in place of Santana, Gordon in place of Margot, Maeda in place of Varland, Pagan in place of most of our bullpen. Taylor in place or Margot would be better though. Thanks for posting this.

not to nit pick but it wouldn't be Polanco replacing Julien, it would be Polanco replacing Santana and/or Farmer. and for bad as Polanco has been it would be huge upgrade  (maybe not in wins, but not having Santana on the team would be good for fan moral.e)

Polanco would be a far better on defense than Julien but I am surprised that while at this point , Julien has a 42% K rate, Polanco has a 39% rate

The Mets DFA'd Tyler Jay, and replaced him on the roster with Michael Tonkin.

Seems like that was a pricey relief appearance.

Grichuk currently occupies that roster spot.

David McCarty passed away at age 54. A #1 pick by the Twins, he never really made it in the majors.

I'm sure a lot of players would have been happy playing parts of 11 seasons in MLB.

Sad and very shocking. Much too young. Yeah, he was pretty much a bust with the Twins, considering that he was the number 3 draft choice that year, and I think coming off a College Player of the Year award too. But as another poster just mentioned, he DID have a multi-year run in the majors, so not a total bust, but like so many other players he never lived up to the high expectations.

First Sano got to pitch and now Ben Rortvedt got to throw 2 innings for TB in a blowout loss.

Rortvedt now batting a robust .345 for the Rays, Sure, it's early in the season, but who saw that coming!?
