Sigh, we missed out on getting Jake Cave as he signed for $1 million in the KBO.

1 million Korean won is only 701.63 USD as of the 12/5/24 exchange rate.  Still overpaid.

AI Overview
Jake Cave, a former Major League Baseball (MLB) outfielder, signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Doosan Bears of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO):
  • Salary: $800,000
  • Signing bonus: $200,000
    image.jpeg.b806ac69930483d98755ff59d614c95c.jpeg
Cave's contract is the maximum amount allowed for first-year foreign players in the KBO. The Bears were attracted to Cave's bat speed and his ability to cover a lot of ground on defense.

Cave played in the MLB for seven seasons, for the Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, and Colorado Rockies. In 2018, his rookie year, he hit 13 homers for the Twins. In 2024, he played in 123 games for the Rockies, batting .251 with seven home runs.

My most lasting memory of Cave was when I met friends in Cleveland and Cave was playing center field for the Twins.  The first two Cleveland batters hit routine fly balls to Cave. He dropped both of them.

Max Kepler 1/$10 million to the Phillies. Philadelphia has been trying to dump Nick Castellanos’ contract since the offseason began. Kepler likely the starting RF for a WS contending team.

From what I read, the Phillies plan to put Kepler in left field.

The A's had a gap at 3rd.

The Athletics are in agreement with Gio Urshela on a free agent contract, reports Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic. Financial terms for the Rep 1 Baseball client aren’t reported. The signing is pending a physical.

Ildemaro Vargas, who got in to 10 games with the Twins in the COVID year, signed a minor league contract with Arizona. I believe it is the third time he has been acquired by the Snakes.

Left handed and breathing is a powerful drug in MLB. It earns you more opportunities than anyone in baseball.

Do lefty batters get the same preference?

I was thinking about Nick Gordon the other day, wondering if any team  would take a chance on him. Good luck to him and also to Thielbar.
