Agreed.

Per a few sources.

Bad for the team as a whole but pretty excited to see Rooker.

Agreed on both accounts.

Hopefully it's just the 10 days for Max, but it's nice to see them bring up a new face rather than just handing the spot over to Cave/Wade.

I guess the question now is what happens to get him on the 40-man? He's not already there, is he?

If my count is accurate they're at 41 including Bailey, so someone else would have to 45-day IL or be cut loose.

Hopefully Garver doesn’t have to be moved to the 45 day IL. I don’t consider Astudillo a viable catcher by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm not a praying man, but I'll pray for the continued health of Avila because I'm right there with you on Mr. Tortuga. As the emergency man for a double-header, whatever, but having to play on a semi-regular basis? Seen it already, wasn't impressed.

Maybe Littell? Either would sting, but him less than Garver.

I'm excited to see Rooker and hope it will mean fewer Cave/Wade plate appearances. It made sense that one of Kirilloff/Rooker would get the spot opened up when Vargas was DFAd. The downside is that without somebody going on the 45-day IL, Kirilloff seems unlikely to get a shot. The 40-man roster doesn't have much dead weight left, so adding anyone else would likely mean losing someone decent on the waiver wire.

Maybe I'm crazy to suggest this, but Marwin Gonzales might be an option to DFA if they need to make a move right now. The odds of him being on the 2021 Twins is very low. He has no pop to his bat this year, and he's the slowest player on the team.

Have to take into account what a move like that would do to clubhouse chemistry. My guess is that it would at best be polarizing, more likely downright harmful.

Potentially. There's not a ton of dead weight on the 40 man anymore. So unless Garver/Littell move to the 45 day IL, the options are limited to Wade, Cave, Adrianza, or Gonzales IMO. Adrianza has a little more flexibility than Gonzales since he can adequately play SS. And it may not be the best use of 40 man flexibility to DFA Cave or Wade while they have multiple option years remaining.

I suspect the front office is more hesitant to start the option clock on Kirilloff due to age and the fact they haven’t seen him in real game action for a year now.

Rooker is older and less of a prospect so they’re probably more willing to just give him a shot.

Good for Rooker - why is Buxton not in the line up?\

My guess is that the Twins are going to be extremely careful with Buxton for the rest of the regular season. I doubt he'll ever play both games of a double header and will likely get additional days off as a protective measure. Over the upcoming 7 games in 5 days stretch I'll be surprised if Buxton plays more than 4 games.

Besides, he has a .048 avg against Boyd. Better save him for the second game

Makes sense. Rooker is ripe on the vine. That wrist action resembles Rosario's. The ball explodes off his bat. Without Kep in the order, they'll  need somebody with home run power. Kirilloff might be able to do it, but Rooker needs a look for future considerations, like off-season trades, or replacing Cave or Wade.

Welcome to the Show, Brent Rooker!

Not sure but I *think* they have a spot available - when Vargas was DFAed for Donaldson coming back, that was because Vargas was out of options, not because they needed to free a spot for Donaldson (who still was counted in the 40 while on the IL.) So Vargas' removal from the 40-man would mean an open spot.

They've added Rooker to the 40-man on the website, but that puts them at 42.

Am I missing someone besides Bailey on the 45-man? There's been so many injuries I haven't been able to keep up.,

Garver went on the IL on 8/20. If he went on the 45-day list, that would put him out until 10/4 or thereabouts. Littell went on the list two days later, so his return would be 10/6 if placed on the 45-day list.

Honestly, if they need to clear space on the 40-man, the Twins should consider Wade. He's essentially been passed by Larnach, Kirilloff and now Rooker. He would most likely get claimed, but I doubt he'll ever be a regular with the Twins.

They had been at 42 on the 40-man for awhile. Bailey is on the 45-day IL, so that's one spot. Most of us have assumed that Gordon is on the COVID list and therefore, wasn't included on the 40-man. Doesn't seem to be any other explanation.

That would make sense. I wonder how long he can stay on that list since he was cleared last week.

Regardless, it's better than having to move someone else to the 45-day. I think it's going to be all hands on deck for the last month.
