Blake Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 I was sitting here, in deep contemplation, trying to solve exactly what direction I was going to take this game thread. I was a bit lost and directionless, as per usual. Funny thing, I seem to recall my parents saying much the same to me through the first 5 or so formative decades of my life. But not to fear, somehow, I will soldier on and find a way to work baseball into the thread opener. *Is it dusty in here or is it just me? Because I figure we need a regular dust tornado on TD..... So, now that I've worked baseball into the baseball thread, maybe I should discuss the upcoming series? ...............Nah. KC is in town and the Twins should beat them. Not much to really discuss, is there? And now, for some topics worthy of deep introspection: 1. Most quotable movies: "The Princess Bride," "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," or "Caddy Shack?"2. Most quotable sports figure: Muhammad Ali or Yogi Berra?3. Most quotable cartoon: Bugs Bunny or Road Runner?4. Most quotable writer: Douglas Adams or Dorothy Parker? Pitching for the Twins: Martin Perez Pitching for KC: Glenn Sparkman 5. Play ball!

Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Pitching for KC: Glenn Sparkman Any Mega Man 3 fans in the house?
bighat Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Wonder if Jonathan Schoop starts tonight? He's clearly lost his job to Arraez and the Royals have a righty on the mound....but with the extra-inning game I'm wondering if maybe Rocco throws Jonathan in there. Sparkman is 3-7 with a 5.95 FIP. Twins should get after him tonight.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Sparkman is 3-7 with a 5.95 FIP. Twins should get after him tonight.Sparkmen held his own against us (12 IP, 5 ER) in back-to-back starts in June. Of course, Twins lineups were without Buxton and Sano for those games, and Sparkman's season ERA has deteriorated since.
gocgo Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 1. Most quotable movies: "The Princess Bride," "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," or "Caddy Shack?"None of those - Bull Durham #1...but if I had to pick, I'm staying sports and going Caddy Shack. 2. Most quotable sports figure: Muhammad Ali or Yogi Berra? Most is Yogi, most memorable is Ali 3. Most quotable cartoon: Bugs Bunny or Road Runner?Bugs Bunny 4. Most quotable writer: Douglas Adams or Dorothy Parker?Hmmmm....how about Scott Adams?

In My La Z boy Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Tawney - what was her name? Any Robert Palmer videos? Loved the "simply irresistible" girls. 1987 was a very good year. Thanks
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Douglas Adams is only skin deep but Dorothy Parker goes clean to the bone.
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 I think the most quotable movie was “Heartbreak Ridge”. Of course, most of the quotes are NSFW.

VATwinsFan Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 How's this for a baseball story? A pitcher's dazzling show at a stadium speed pitch challenge earned him a deal with the A's https://www.mlb.com/cut4/a-s-sign-pitcher-who-dazzled-at-in-stadium-radar-booth
HawksNest Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Buxton is a last minute scratch. No indication why as of now UPDATE: Left shoulder soreness per multiple Twins beat writers

yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Adrianza is a decent hitter, but why not put Garver at first? He already didn’t play yesterday.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 We need to get Cron back.Absolutely! I think Seth guessed Monday and that sounds right to me. But I wouldn't object to tomorrow.
TwinsCD Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Tawney - what was her name? Any Robert Palmer videos? Loved the "simply irresistible" girls. 1987 was a very good year. Thanks Tawny Kitaen...who was once (still is, maybe?) married to pitcher Chuck Finley.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 All great choices for most quotable movies, and I'd probably go with Princess Bride from the original choices. But is everyone forgetting MAJOR LEAGUE??!! Shame on you all!
HawksNest Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Indians absolutely teeing off on the Angels right now in the first inning
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Tawny Kitaen...who was once (still is, maybe?) married to pitcher Chuck Finley.Funny you should ask... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Finley#Personal_life_and_marriage As Finley took the mound for an April 2002 game against the Chicago White Sox at then-Comiskey Park, the stadium's musical director, Joe Stephen, took a subtle dig at Finley's messy divorce, and played "Here I Go Again" by the band Whitesnake, referencing Kitaen's appearance in that band's videos and her previous marriage to the band's lead singer, David Coverdale. Stephen was later fired and the White Sox apologized.

This has nothing to do with quotablility, but the all-time most noteworthy choice between two alternatives:Ginger or Mary Ann?(Of course, the correct answer is either yes, or both.)

In this day and age, it seems like the correct answer would be "it's up to them."
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Looks like the Indians are going to bag a win today... let's beat up the Royals and keep the lead at 3!
jz7233 Provisional Member Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 Puig already drove in 2 runs for Indians today and it's only in the 2nd inning. That's good addition.
pierre75275 Verified Member Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 Did anybody notice (pry not) that the Rays and Marlins only have a 2 game series this wknd so the Rays and the Marlins are not scheduled tonight??How weird is that? When was the last time the Twins didnt have a scheduled game on a Friday in the regular season? I only noticed bc I am lucky to live in FL
mrtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 They need to have Byron wear some sort of shoulder pads, Why not ?
