Geez I was not happy about the Perez signing because I like Mejia. I still like Mejia but this guy sure looks springtime fresh! A lefty at 97 and even spinning one in the 70's.. c'mon!

I was wondering what folks were going to say about Perez after this.  When they signed him I thought maybe they knew something about him that we didn't. Just goes to show that some people look a gift horse in the mouth even these days.

Did anyone else wonder if the Pittsburgh announcers were so bored that they strained not to be calling the game.   i mean, ignoring 3 HRs so they could do an in depth interview while all that was going on?  And I though Hawk Harrelson was a homer.

I'd be very happy to eat crow on this one. Is it possible our FO really sees something different in him that nobody has found/untapped yet?

He’s still only 27 years old, and was considered by the baseball industry as one of the top prospects in all of baseball when he was coming up through the minors. It’s certainly within the realm of possibility that he could start to put it all together in his late twenties - there are lots of examples of that. And a change of scenery, new pitching coach that can help refine his (bio)mechanics and help him increase confidence could certainly help push him in the right direction.

Who knows how his season will play out, but it should be fun watching. I think the FO has shown a pattern of targeting post-hype prospect guys who have become borderline AAA/AAAA but are still mainly in their prime years of 26-28. (Cave, Austin, Schoop, Perez.)

Yes their as some call them scrap heap moves are different than the previous regime in that the targets are young and had/have high ceilings. First round picks that fans of other teams will not be happy if they succeed here.

Good for Ryne, but to my eye, Blue gave him a couple of gifts along the way there.

Agreed. But even still, once again, he has some absolutely NASTY stuff. Of course, if his FB sits mid to high 80's it probably doesn't matter. And I honestly don't know where he's at with FB or another offerings. But man, I am intrigued!

Does he have a real chance here? Or is he bound for Rochester no matter what with a shot at coming up later? Just hard to believe, with his milb numbers and that kind of breaking ball he's never even had a cup of coffee yet.

For some reason, watching Harper pitch, I’m thinking of Pat Neshek.

Can you elaborate? I don't see too much similar in their motions.

Gibby looked better in his second outing today. Great to watch baseball in Ft Myers today

Thought you brought back Gibby from the 60s for a minute when you used nickname Gibby.

You'll get used to the site. :) At least we don't have anyone named Lolich for you to confront.

Interesting, but what I see happening is this.

1.  Addison Reed to the IL with shoulder weakness

2. Hildenberger to Rochester to fix whatever his issues are

3. Some combination of Moran, Harper, Collins making the club

4. This is just possible, Mejia experiment ends and he is released.
