Ok. 30 homers a year are not going to offset subpar fielding and striking out 40% of the time. He is showing no indication that he understands that he has a lot of improving to do. I hope he monitors Chris Carter’s career because that is where he is headed

Miguel Sano, has a career OPS 100 points higher than Carter.

He also has already compiled more than twice as many bWAR (5.8 to 2.5) as Carter, in 431 less games.

 

So, even if Sano never improves at all, he's a much, much better and more valuable player than Chris Carter.

Chris carter was an example. I think we should all be worried about Sano’s current career arc.

I don’t think we should be worried about anything. He’s a very good player who has the ability to be great. Whether he gets there isn’t really something that keeps me up at night. I’m enjoying what he delivers because it’s fun to watch. If he improves, I’ll enjoy it more.

The market has been pretty clear in valuing all or nothing hitters with no positional value. Sure he might rise above that definition but there are no signs currently. And no I am not drunk ....

To paraphrase comments in many other threads this week, I'm not worried about a lot of strikeouts in the first dozen games of the season. Everyone is rusty, they just came from very different temps in FL/AZ, and they haven't settled into the routine of the season yet. 

 

Players don't improve instantly, it takes years. It's a game of nuance and subtlety. Sano has nothing in common with Cuddyer (besides player 3B poorly), but I'll use Cuddy as an example. With many players you're ready to give up on them at about the time they finally turn that corner.

But he's not an all or nothing hitter with no positional value, which is why his OPS and WAR are so much higher than someone like Chris Carter, who is those things.

Maybe you think the Twins should do a Big Papi to Boston with Sano? I envision Sano as a similar player as Ortiz. How'd that work out?

Right now, I'd be more worried about Morrison being a bust.

Just lower the expectations a little, and you see how valuable a piece Sano is. Let Berrios/Buck/Royce Lewis be the headliners.

I'm not even a little bit emotional about this. The drunk comment was having a bit of fun at the expense of Minnesota fans never being satisfied with the gifts they are given. The hill comment was made in genuine perplexity at your statements that Miguel Sano is in any way comparable to Logan Morrison.

 

Because that's a seriously weird comparison to make, especially when making the (obvious) comparison of Morrison posting a Buxton-esque OPS to start this season while Sano is raking.

 

I'm having a bit of fun because your takes here are a bit hyperbolic. That's all there is to it.
