I heard Mauer to the DL, so Granite up? Where did you see/hear about Granite?

It's funny, I was ready to see Mauer go at the beginning of the season. But, Mauer seems to have turned a corner and now I don't like seeing him out.

 

Anyway, let's hope this is another of the Twins excellent young position players.

 

The Twins may have trouble with pitching but they sure have produced some position players lately.

Mauer to the DL, so if this is true, I'm assuming it's the corresponding move, or someone's wishful thinking, as I've seen nothing regarding a corresponding move. Which is why I asked from what source Gagne Fan heard this.

That makes way more sense to me. 1B for 1B. How would Granite even get playing time if he took Mauer's roster spot? There's no way I'm playing him over Kepler, Buxton, or Rosario.

Well, shoot. I was hoping to see Granite. But, if Mauer is going to the DL, Vargas makes sense.

Yeah, I think the OP heard someone speculating who and jumped the gun saying it was Granite.

Since Mauer did not appear in the last two games he would be eligible to return Saturday after the Break, or the second game after the Break.

I'm a little disappointed it's not Garver coming up (he can play 1B), but it probably won't matter very much. Joe will be back shortly and they'll probably keep going with Sano at 1B and Escobar at 3B.

Well, there is always the option of putting Kepler at 1B.

It would make sense. Jorge probably wouldn't start agsin (even if he remains in the rotation) until the 5th game after the break. That's way more than 10 days ftom now. Wouldn't be surprised to see Hildenberger go down too. Maybe for Gee or Turley. Hildenberger wouldn't likely be used tomorrow or Sunday.

The Twins might start Kepler at first and put Granite in RF. It's not like the Twins to call a younger guy up and not play him.

This reminds me of the Rosario call-up back in 2015 and Kepler call-up back in 2016. Both were just to get a cup of coffee and stay on the bench, but both took the bull by the horns and ended up become starters quicker than imagined. I'm not sure if Granite will do the same thing, but it'd be great if he could.

But at the expense of whom? His having success at the MLB level this year is dependant on the failure or injury of Rosario, Buxton or Kepler (well, I suppose Grossman or Mauer too).

I think you are reading way too much into it. Jorge was just going to sit around and do nothing for the next 12 days. At least this way, the Twins actually have a guy that might be useful for a minimum of 3 games.

 

I don't think the Twins would have waited to DL him if his back injury was that serious.

He's almost 25 without much pop so corner outfield doesn't seem like the right fit. Plus he bats left handed which hurts as well since both our corner outfielders are lefties that struggle versus lefties.

It may be two games with a reliever coming back after the break. It gives them a better bench for these two games without any impact on the pitching. Smart move.

I doubt the Twins would add a 9th reliever right after the Break. The Twins will likely stick with Granite until Mauer is activated or a 5th starter is needed.
