The game was 3 to 1 when Santiago was taken out.  It was not a blow out when the decision was made.  When you have a 13 man pitching staff, might as well make use of them.  

 

Yes.  And preferably they should use half of the pitchers each game just so none of those little whipper snappers get comfortable. This is how the managers in the HOF did it, after all. Yum, this kool-aid is good.

 

And 3-1 with no baserunners is a damn nice lead. It's OK that you may not remember that, being a follower of the Twins over the past five years and all. But usually there are no panic moves by the manager when the team is up by 2 and there is no one on base and the opposition couildn't even hit off of Santiago.

Have to give Molitor the F today. It's not Santiago's fault they burned through 5 relief pitchers in a blowout win, when no reliever allowed a hit and the Royals never posed a real threat.

 

One more year....

No way.  Give Molitor an A today. So many arms in the pen and they all need work, so give some a little work today in a blowout........ perfect.

What a breath of fresh air with the first two wins this season.  I believe that Castro has been a huge factor with pitch placement.  

Do we know how many strikes he's framed so far?

You mean four relievers in three innings, plus Haley.

 

Btw, Santiago threw 88 pitches through five innings, so it was time for him to be pulled.

I just managed to see part of the eighth and the ninth inning. Sounds like it was a great game. Go Twins. 

 

Hey the Twins are:

• Tied for first in the Central.

• Winners of their first series;

• Off to a great start – the pitching staff has a combined 1.00 ERA – That's great!

 

Get out the brooms - time for a sweeeeeeeeeeeeeppppp!!

The bases weren't empty, he came out for the 6th and gave up a lead off single. He was on a pitch count, time for a reliever. And getting some bullpen guys into a game with not much pressure was the right call.

 

I'm no Molitor fan, but let's wait for him to do questionable things before we question.

I'm not sure about that. There was a ton of pessimism going into the season and coming out of a last place finish last year the crowds were sure to be crappy. Also a Wednesday afternoon game in April was sure to be a poor turnout. But if we keep playing like this I bet the crowds pick up. I think our series with the Sox and Indians next weekend will have some decent numbers unless we lose every game from now until then

It was hard to get excited about this season, last season pretty much killed my baseball joy and I thought I might be spiraling into a bandwagon jumper like I have become with the Vikings since the 2001 season. Football, though, has always been a very, very, very, very distant second to my fondness for baseball.

 

2-0 to start off is a needed boost, good for the team, good for us, good all around. It's great to see the offense score that many runs in a sometimes imperfect ways - ****, the Royals have some stinkers in their bullpen, I'm sure we'll have our moments as well.

 

I like the walks, clutch hits, I like the line-up creativity, once this line-up hits it's stride, this could be a fun season well worth watching. Saying that, I should throw some props to the pitching. We'll see how it goes.

 

These last 2 games have definitely been a morale booster.

I'm fine with Santiago being pulled. I'm talking about using 5 relievers who collectively allowed no hits and one walk with a 2 run lead in a game that the team was sure to win.

Glad to see Buxton get a hit - even if it was a weak grounder he legged out.  That was the most gratifying moment in the final 2 innings for me.  Great win!  The Royals keep giving 'em away, let's take another tomorrow, why not?

I know some people were grumpy about Escobar starting in this thread and the line-up thread, but the guy is a proven major league baseball player who is good. Last year wasn't all that great, 2015 was his top, and 2014 probably settles in as what I see him to be. He is an adequate defender, with a decent bat and surprising pop.

 

Escobar could hypothetically be on all MLB team's rosters as the main UT with the exception of a few. He is a solid MLB player on both sides of the field. He definitely has value. In fact, as a UT player, he is at the top. I am glad we have him.

Personally, I think people sell Escobar too short. He was hurt last year.  Will be an interesting situation if he and Polanco are both hitting well.
