DaveW: Dodgers trade for Dozier to be completed within the next 24 hours

THIS year? Split with 1B and DH with Mauer starting mid season (after team finally gives up on Vargas).  Next year, probably full time 1B, Mauer splitting DH with Sano and us working in another 3B.

Year after, Mauer is gone, Bellinger earns an All Star trip and Sano goes to DH.

Probably this, though I'd be curious to know if he can play RF or not.....with Kepler in LF.

Ken Rosenthal was on MLB Network this morning and referenced that there are some teams that are very good about keeping deals quiet until it actually happens. Specifically he was referring to the Cardinals and then the Rockies with Ian Desmond. I would assume based on past history that the Twins are one of these teams? Beat writers for the Twins have also noted that all it takes is one call and everything changes. Who knows, maybe this will come out of left field to the National Media if it does happen.

Takes two teams to trade, though.

And it's harder to keep things too quiet at something like the winter meetings, which is when Dave's source basically said the deal was done.

He could play OF, but he's a plus defender at 1B and would be our 1B of the future.  Not sure you'd want him to full time start in the OF.

In general, I agree.....I would just be curious about the OF. They still need another OF.

There is that tiny chance Park can play 1B......or DH, with Mauer, this coming year.

SO at this point if the trade happens is DaveW correct on calling the trade because he called the trade a done deal or is it a fail on his part for saying it was going to be within 24 hours almost 48 hours ago?

Yes.

This might not be completely Dozier related, but I feel if Mrs. Brady would have died during the season, this would have been acknowledged on a game thread.  I apologize if this was already mentioned on one of the previous 38 pages.  I will let you get back to the in-depth analysis of the Dozier trade.

If this trade does take place, I am pretty excited to see the minor league depth that would also be added in June with the 1st pick, as well as the competitive A balance pick and second round pick.  If they can deal E Santana for a possible top 100 prospect, they would have added some nice pieces.

I agree, but how many weeks/starts would he needs to stay down for the Twins to gain further control?

According to this article, he has used 29 days of service already, and has 3 full years from now before he would hit arbitration. I don't know what that means in terms of if he stays down in AAA this year or not, but I would believe it would have to be a majority of the year for it to matter.

I'm good, if we trade for him, being up day 1. He is 24 and will be 25 at the start of August.

Santana has about 30M in surplus value.  About half of what Dozier does.

There is only one correct answer to this question ...

Yes.

I don't really care if I get "credit" or not. It's not about me, it's about the trade and the players involved.

With the talk by Lavine/Falvey(sp) of building a management "team" that involves many people, I'm not at all shocked that this trade didn't go down at the winter meetings. They want to return back home and have the entire staff go over it from many angles and perspectives. This is a great opportunity for everyone to work together on a decision and thus settle in to their roles and understand the roles of those around them.

You will still have "street-cred" in my book either way.

You really do embody the spirit of playing the game the right way.
