David HK Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Partly that is because the TWins drag their players thru the lower minors, then rush them thru the upper minors. 100% opposite of the Cardinals.Nail and head, right there.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 I could see Arcia getting DFA'd once Santana is ready. He doesn't seem to have much of a role or future on this club. Or a pitcher could be optioned, which would bring the roster back in balance (although in truth, our bench options are generally so poor as to not matter).

He'd probably be a good fit on a few teams.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Well if you think DanSan is the future, which I do not, then you send down Kepler/Buxton or DFA Arcia and then fire the GM for being a putz! What exactly does DanSan do that well that we have to keep him? If DanSan turns out to be the future then I'm the putz.
mudcat14 Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 I'd try to move Nunez while his value is at it's peak. The Jays, Orioles, Yankees, Dodgers, Nats & Mets are all contenders who could use an assist with infield depth. Eduardo is a Top 20 OPS guy this season with 14 steals. Just once, I'd like to see the Twins move someone before their value plummets and we let them walk for nothing.

He'd probably be a good fit on a few teams.DFA means you have 10 days to release or trade the player (or try passing them through waivers). He would find a better fit than Minnesota, but I don't think Arcia is a good fit anywhere at this point. He's got a 40% K rate, terrible defense, no minor league options left, and is set to hit arbitration this winter too. Someone might claim him on waivers for a look, or give up something like the waiver fee in trade, but you aren't getting any notable value back on him right now, unfortunately.

He'd probably be a good fit on a few teams. I think Arcia has been floated for quite some time. At a very minimum, every team in the league knew he could have been had. Outside of the obvious regime change......nothing has been a bigger drag on this team than holding onto guys because we think their trade value will go up. Cast offs on a team that is losing 70% of their games are not overly valuable around the league.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 DFA means you have 10 days to release or trade the player (or try passing them through waivers). I understand that, but by DFA'ing him your hand is forced and you have less leverage. That would also give you a feel of how likely it is that he clears waivers.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 What happens when Dantana comes back? Speed on the basepaths, follies in the field, and funkiness at the plate. He seems vaguely destined to be a utility player, but at this point about the only certainty is that by season's end the Twins will have handled him in a way that they will be almost no closer to either knowing that's the case or rounding him into the more complete defender he'll need to be to succeed in that role. My guess is that he'll languish on the bench, be miscast as a starter when another cog fails, and then be sent to the organizational doghouse when that doesn't work out.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 No. Molitor figures out how to not totally mismanage a ****ing bullpen and the team goes with 7 relievers. GOOD GOD.Buxton and Kepler up for good. Stop the insanity. And soon Rosario-Buxton-Kepler for good.
AWOLNATION_11 Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Buxtons BA, OBP, and slugging (236/283/364 last 15 games) are all up over his season averages. It's not when you should be sending him down. (His OPS over the last 15 is 70 points higher than his season average) I don't think he should be sent down for a bad series against a very good team. Last 15 games is a little skewed as he's only played 12 games since coming back up for Santana. In 12 games since the re-call he is at .256 / .283 / .372 versus .156 / .208 / .289 over 17 games during the first 2016 stint in the bigs.
dxpavelka Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 There will be much singing and dancing! As Dozier keeps moving up towards his career BA [ .239 ] he will be safe. How sad is that>
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 As far as comments on development go, I am all for more time spent in A+, AA, and AAA than in rookie leagues and A ball. Why they send some of their best prospects to E-Town at all is totally beyond any rational person's comprehension (aside from Latin players signed very young, obviously).
tobi0040 Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 and then be sent to the organizational doghouse when that doesn't work out. I am not sure why that would happen this time?
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 To me, this might be the first "come to Jesus" moment for the Twins: do you play the youngsters (Buxton and Kepler), and give the fans a reason to watch an inferior product, or maybe do the right thing and send them to Triple A to dominate and get the experience they obviously need?Couldn't they get experience in the MLB, while at the same time giving fans something to watch? That seems like the best move to me, as long as they're not completely overmatched.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 The emergence of Grossman probably means a Mastro DFA. I would love to see a 12-man staff, but the starters have to go deeper in games more consistently than they have.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 I am not sure why that would happen this time? By organizational doghouse, I mean demotion/DFA, the far end of the bench where the guys who seldom play usually sit, and being moved to a non-MLB team in another organization, possibly in Asia. As for why it would happen, we already know that the Twins sometimes need about as much reason to doghouse a player as cats need to suddenly dash into another room. Danny's banishment could be due to a cold stretch and/or just plain bad luck at the plate, a costly defensive error in one of the few close Twins games, smelly socks, sideburns too long, or not honoring the samurai baserunner's Bushido code, Whatever. But the real reason will be that right now I think that the Twins loathe inconsistency and unpredictability even more than losing, and along with his talent, Dantana has bushels of both those traits.
Boom Boom Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Danny will be back up and starting again. He's to Paul Moll what Nick Punto was to that last guy.
Blake Verified Member Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 When I did my research regarding the top 15 position players in fWAR I found something very similar. Most spent significant time in AA and/or AAA. The ones that were fast-tracked were top prospects that dominated (900+ OPS) with strong BB/K ratios (.80+). The players that fell into neither category took a long time to establish themselves at the major league level requiring multiple stints in AAA. Yeah, reading your information made me realize just how clueless the Twins organization is when it comes to player development. Bring back Andy MacPhail!
sftwinsfan Verified Member Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 My money is on Park being sent down or Arcia being DFA'd. As others have pointed out Park is struggling badly and could probably use some time in AAA to make some adjustments. Arcia would also be another option. I don't think his adventures in the outfield over the weekend really helped his cause. Santana will definitely stay on the team for now, Molitor really seems high on him.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 It should be Park. Shout out to goulik for posting his stats... Buzz, your girlfriend, WOOF. Since it's the 2016 Twins, it's probably going to be Kepler or Buxton. And D Santana will find his way back into a starting role.... Ugh.AAA is probably comparable to Korea. You could send him down to buy roster construction time, but it's not going to do him a lick of good.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Trade Dozier/Plouffe. Done deal. You forgot the "bring up Polanco to play every day" portion I believe. ☺
Wizard11 Verified Member Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 I would have to question what Danny Santana has done to earn his roster spot. Grossman, Kepler, Park, Arcia, and Buxton have all been mentioned as possibilities to lose their 25 man roster spot. What exactly has Danny Santana done in either MLB (or MiLB for that matter) to preempt any of the above players? At age 25 it seems like the his upside is to grow up to be a serviceable utility player. Is there a good argument at this stage of the rebuild for a half baked UT to take playing time from anyone on the roster who may be potentially be a future starter? OK, that probably is a little harsh, but do others see D. Santana as part of our future starting 9?

Santana doesn't have a true position, his hitting is "inconsistent" and isn't a power hitter. Cut the cord.

OK, that probably is a little harsh, but do others see D. Santana as part of our future starting 9? Spot on. I see absolutely no use for Danny Santana on next years roster (so why keep him around to take Buxton/ Kepler at bats this year). He can't hit, and he's versatile/ athletic but isn't good at any position. I would much rather Rosario be on the team as a 4th outfielder and see no use in DanSan
twinssouth Provisional Member Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Send Park down or dfa Arcia. Arcia is not getting any better. Not the best at bats and a space cadet in the outfield.
