Sano to the DL with a Hammy, Kepler recalled

Another hamstring problem for Sano. It's easier for the Twins to find OFers in the system to replace him than it would be to find 3B. Sano's persistent injuries is cause for concern--he will likely miss significant time every year if running to 1B is a problem. Hope he has one big year--then trade him!

This should put an end to the misguided attempt to have him in the OF. Now the twins will be forced into some real decisions, given that they now have about 9 players for 1st, 3rd and DH.

Moving Kepler up shows just how bad our FO is. They earlier called him up to sit on the bench when someone went down rather than keep him in Rochester learning his craft. You, know, by playing baseball rather than watching it. Then they send him back down where he doesn't do particularly well, gets injured and one day after coming off the DL they call him back up.

This FO's obsession with trying to catch lightening in a bottle to somehow miraculously save a lost year, even at the expense of their prized prospects, is just plain nuts. Maybe Buxton and Max will light it up. I certainly hope so. Never the less this is not the right way to handle the top prospects in the system.

I'm glad he didn't pull the hammy running in the outfield, people would have lost their minds.

Could pulled the hammy as a result of playing the OF.....(not the actual pulling itself, but because he's had to stretch it out via different stride than manning 3b)

Some are contending he tweaked it during the "defensive" play on the ball down the line. Even if he did, I doubt we will ever know. Some conspiracies, like the second shooter on the grassy knoll at Fords Theatre are kept secret forever!

Dear Paul Moiltor,

Please play Max Kepler while he's up.

Give him a fair chance to show what he can do.

Rotate your 4 OF'ers so nobody gets stuck on the bench.

Max Kepler will be someone you will have to work with in 2017 so you might as well start now.

Sincerely,

Riverbrian

At this point, the starting OF should consist of Buxton, Kepler and Grossman.  You pretty much know what you have in Arcia.  At least with that OF, the defense should be vastly improved.

When Sano comes back, Park goes to the bench...or AAA.

.282/.367/.455 w/ more walks than strike outs... what exactly would qualify as anything more than "doesn't do particularly well"?

The key to preventing the hamstring injuries is Sano simply walking or hitting a homer each AB that he's not striking out.  Problem, problem solved     ;)

Dear Riverbrian,

Paul Molitor doesn't read these threads, so good luck with that.

Sincerely,

Or not hustling so hard down the first base line? :)

Yeah, and he's trending big time. He was hitting under .200 down there in early May.

Yeah I'm seeing he started off 8 for 47 (.170).

Is 23 for 63 (.365) since the 2nd game of the DH on May 7.  8 xbh, 10 walks, 8 k's.

Good...as long as he's playing every day.  Give the kid a real opportunity to see what he can do at this level.

He pulled last year, as a DH, running the bases too! Unfortunately, he's injury prone.

Well, like it or not we get to see Buxton get another chance and hopefully Kepler will get to play some more.  In regards to Kepler we need more guys who can get on base.    Fingers-crossed that Buxton shows improvement and Kepler gets to play.  I see Buxton had 2 K's last night.  I don't want to wish injury on any player but I was thinking it would be nice if Dozier pulled a hammy - so we could get to see Polanco come up and play for a regular stretch as well.

A bit soon to be attaching that label, isn't it?

2 pulled hammies = injury prone?!?!  Dang, that's a pretty tough standard to clear the injury prone label

So, what's up with Arcia?  He's scuffling again, not playing regularly, 0-3 with 2 K's as a pinch hitter, out of options, and arbitration eligible this winter.  Do people want him to play over Kepler or Grossman?  Or are we just giving up?  Should he get waived when Sano or Santana returns?

Actually, he is currently at 2 years 80 days of service time.  If he cleared waivers in the next month and got outrighted, he would probably fall short of arbitration eligibility this winter if we wanted to add him back to the roster at that time.  Of course, he'd still be out of options next spring and could no longer be outrighted without his consent...

Kepler was on the DL until a couple days ago with a strained groin.  Which means that it either healed extremely fast for a groin injury or he will not be 100%

Unless you have a crystal ball, the above is pretty presumptuous on 2 accounts :)

It might have been a pretty mild strain, he only missed a week.  The minor league disabled list is shorter so it can be used more liberally than the MLB one.

Well, this is not how I expected to see Buxton and Kepler back.

Just play him this time......

As for Arcia, I'd let Kepler play to see what you might have. Either that, or play Arcia every day, and send Max back down. One or the other.

I could see Park start to see more time on the bench, rotating Arcia at DH and occasionally in RF to spell Grossman or Kepler.  Even a DH platoon of Park against Lefties, Arcia against the righties.  As long as Kepler is playing 90% of the games.
