Linus Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I think there is a fair amount of intrigue building as to who will start on Saturday. Alex Meyer threw 56 pitches yesterday which can't be a coincidence as that is far more than any recent outing. He would be on regular rest for a Saturday start. Does this mean the Twins are considering him? Or, more likely, Berrios with Meyer taking his spot in the rotation?

Linus Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Author Posted August 13, 2015 I know this is an unpopular opinion but I am a smidge reluctant on having it be Berrios. Simply because he will have to be added to the 40 man and, unlike previous years, we may actually have good players being exposed outside of the 40 man this offseason.

That may cause a small issue but I think the Twins can figure out a way to make it work. For example, deal Milone or just release Nolasco. Pelfrey is gone as well.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 With Gibson's and Pelfrey's starts, if that continues with Santana going at least 6 innings, it could be a bullpen start Saturday.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 If anyone is added, it is probably for one start, with Milone being activated on Sunday. That being the case, maybe Meyer could get a start with the idea that he goes 70 pitches. I'd love to see Berrios, but if it is just for a one start cameo, I'd wait until September to call him up. He doesn't have much AAA experience.

Not happening, per PWDK. Mike Berardino @MikeBerardino · 19m19 minutes ago RHP Michael Bowden would seem a solid possibility for Saturday. Last worked Sunday: 6-8-4-4-1-6 on 95 pitches. Has mid-August opt-out.

But Michael Bowden? No, man. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Duffey threw 69 pitches in his 8/11 start. 6 IP, 1 hit, 0R, 0BB, 5 K.

JaleelWhite FanClub Provisional Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Berrios not being called up for a spot start is fine by me. The only way he should get the call is if he would stay up with the Twins. I'd like to see Duffey get another shot. He faced the hottest team in the majors , with the most potent offense, on the road in his first start. Hard to expect success given that. He doesn't impress, then perhaps you can keep him up and let him get some bullpen innings.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Who in the F is Michael Bowden?
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Who in the F is Michael Bowden? You don't want to know the answer to that question.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I'm advocating for Duffey, but that would be short rest. If Bowden gets the start.... Time to riot. Riots everywhere. And poop. Poop all over the stadium. That is how you prove a point.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I'm wondering who in the F is PWDK?
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Who in the F is Michael Bowden?Didn't he used to have a musical career?
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Didn't he used to have a musical career? No, you're thinking of that guy from Office Space.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Honestly, why not May? He's an actual starter, he can pitch, I'd guess, at least 3 or 4 innings unless he runs in to trouble? And you already have 13 guys in the bullpen! Let them pitch! OK...I exaggerate...but my point is made.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Michael Bowden. Michael. Bowden.

And he's not coming up from AA or some such -- he's very close anyway, and he's clearly the best option. And of course, it could be a spot start *audition* for more starts or even a September MLB relief role.

Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 My choices would be: 1. Duffey2. Berrios3. Gibson (radio guys said he volunteered to pitch on short rest)4. Graham Michael Bowden is not an option to be taken seriously. This is his third organization in 2015 and he's been with the Twins for three weeks. And Berrios has vastly out-pitched Bowden in those three weeks. God bless Michael Bowden for persevering and sticking with it (he's been to show a couple times with other clubs), but he's not pitching Saturday's game. I'm actually kind of upset at Berardino for getting me worked up. (but at least I know Michael Bowden is in the Twins organization now, which I didn't hear about until now).

Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Alright, at least it isn't Michael Bowden starting. For now, that is... Also, Hughes is going on the DL. So Duffey is taking Hughes' spot in the rotation and not Milone's. Side-Note: When TR signed Bowden, I think he mentioned something about possibility getting him to the major league team. I just know TR has a plan to get this mediocre veteran onto this team. EDIT: I somehow missed it, but May is returning to the rotation! Hallelujah!
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Also, Hughes is going on the DL.I never thought I'd say this, but... Thank God.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Wait, what?Maybe related to this? "Phil Hughes leaving Target Field now to get a shot to treat his back. Had to shut down bullpen session Tuesday due to pain." - Phil Miller (@MillerStrib) August 13, 2015 EDIT TO ADD: Ah, beaten to the punch. Hughes to the DL, apparently.
